By the time you've pre-purchased the TV and wait till mid-February, you will see future several posts here of the same TV cheaper and cheaper and then you will scratch your head why you had bought it today.

        • +11

Then you'll never buy anything…keep waiting.. for ever

@CyberMurning: My comment was regarding this particular model factoring the following:

            • This is only an entry model TV and will plummet further IMO. So it is not a "wow" factor TV and it does the job.
            • If it was an OLED/QLED or highest LED/LCD model then I would say take the plunge and buy it as most likely if it is be further discounted, it wont be by much.
            • New models will be released by March so get ready for further reductions across the range, especially entry levels.
        • +1

good luck finding it cheaper then $650-$720 range mid feb onward, overall price drop started at jb $795 then other retailers followed, only way it came down to $650-$720 range was through eBay discount codes, price drop is likely a rebate deal by samsung where they are covering the price drop, 43' & 49" are priced higher the 55' will go back to the $900 range in coming days/weeks

          • +1

@RogueWolf: most tvs go down in price, its likely they are clearing stock with all the promos on this tv. so yea if theres no stock it wont get cheaper.

          • @RogueWolf: So you're saying we should wait until mid Feb for the price to drop to $650?

Edit: I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a than or a then: "then $650-$720 range mid feb onward"

    • +4

Cheaper then a Flagship Samsung phone :)

    • It was cheaper the other week, $691

  • any reviews from current owners? Thanks

Have the 42" model. It's fantastic! Good contrast and great picture for films and games. Viewing angles are good but not amazing

Apps are handy with all the main ones there (netflix, abc, google play) as well as built in chromecast. Don't think it's android tv though.

Only downsides are the sound (needs a soundbar), and the HDR isn't incredible.

      Solid tv for the price.

      • thanks heaps!

      • Does it have a 3.5mm audio output jack or optical only? Thanks

      • I don't believe it has built in Chromecast? Definitely DLNA though.

Re: audio – soundbar does greatly improve things but the audio is much better than entry-level TVs.

        • You can cast to this TV. Not sure if the same functionality as a Chromecast but YouTube and Netflix casting works.

      • It has Google Play?

Is this an Android TV, or is it running Samsung's Tizen OS?

    • Got the 75” version and mounted it to the wall. Pretty awesome!

Arrived on Friday. Coming from CRT > Kogan > Hitatchi $700 2015 model > Samsung 55". I think it's a phenomenal TV for the money. If it were $1k, I'd push to $1.7k for an OLED. But at this price, this is VERY Good value. Smart functions are way faster than every TV I've had before. The wii-style pointing remote from LG is missing from Samsung (standard clunky interface for a TV) but otherwise I can't fault it.

Samsung is due to release an update that incorporates Apple TV features this year, as well. Until then, $12 gets you a mirroring app that even allows playback of MP4 files with subtitles from a Macbook. Streams fine over my AC wifi network.

If you've had a mid-high end smart TV before, this might not be what you're after. If you're like me and have only had entry-level TVs in the past, this is a significant step up.

      • I have a got a 55" Changhong which I bought about 5 years ago..Its working well so far. Do you think if the Samsung will be a good upgrade or I should get an OLED? Thanks

    • I have the 43" of the 7100. Very poor quality TV.

    • +1

got it last week. its pretty good for the money I paid for sure. Quite responsive in turning on and switching between apps. Can cast to it using my phone for YouTube. Supposedly can do it for netflix too but it didnt work when i tried, I'll probably have to fiddle with it a bit more. Looks great from what I've seen when playing ps4.

      • How is the picture quality and viewing angles? Thanks

        • I'm not sure if I'm the best person to ask that because I've never really paid attention to people when they talk about viewing angles on monitors. But I can't sit straight on from the TV because theres a table right in front. So I basically sit on a chair that is at 45 degrees and I havn't encountered much of a problem.

  • what was the lowest price for this model?

I beleive this is the lowest price ever

Not trying to be negative but I saw this model in JB and found the side viewing angle to be one of the weakest compared to the opposing brands…. it really put me off buying it.

    • +4

Although it may be the current cheapest price and the previous sale price is no longer obtainable, what puts me off most is knowing that the item in question has been sold previously at a cheaper price. There is just something in me that refuses to pay more than what it "could" be on sale for / in hope that it would once again be offered at that price point

      • I've thought this too, sometimes you miss out completely if the model/line ends.

I missed out on the Sony Xperia Z3 tablet and still kicking myself.

    • Thanks for sharing. Very important to my application (small wide room).
      Cheers.

    • +3

It's a VA panel. Google will help you understand the pros/cons between this and the IPS panels you would have compared it to.

Yes, viewing angles are poorer on VA panels but contrast and blacks are superior.

    • Which models had the better viewing angles? Did you notice any negatives of these models with better viewing angles compared to this Samsung (eg more washed out image)?

      • At the time I found the Sony panels much better on side view. But it comes down to your room configuration, if you are looking straight on then this is probably a lovely panel at a good price - we just sit on an angle at our place so it was the No.1 thing that I looked for and I just remember this model specifically.

      • IPS LCD (most of LG + some Sony models) and OLED has the best viewing angle.

IPS does have lower native contrast vs VA though, which can give a washed-out look in comparison (unless you are in a very brightly lit room). OLED is best of both worlds, very high native contrast and extremely wide viewing angle.

        https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality/viewing-angl…

    • I have the 43" of this model, and viewing angles are terrible. Even slightly off is bad

  • +2

Very good TV for the price, but definitely has some drawbacks.
Not great for watching HDR content, lacks brightness and poor colour gamut.
Also has some motion blur issues that could affect gaming and fast content.

    Review of this TV.

  • Would JB-HI-FI price match with their current on special model? https://www.jbhifi.com.au/samsung/samsung-nu7100-55-4k-uhd-s…

    • +1

not the $720 price, the $770 they should, your in brisbane just order from ebay unless you need it immediately, heres the powerland website link if your using to price match

    • Games on the original Xbox One (not the S or X models) look great.

HDR is not even recognised by the Xbox (apparently the TV is not truly HDR10 compatible, it's HDR8+2 if I remember correctly).

But it does have a 'games' mode (which locks a lot of other settings) that is supposed to give lower imput lag, etc, and is intended for use with consoles - have you tried that?

EDIT: my tv is the 6100 model, this is the 7100, so what I said may not apply to this model (but I researched these models extensively about six months ago, and I don't think there were a lot of differences between the models).

      • +1

Hang on, the original Xbox one doesn’t have HDR capabilities, only the S and the X do. Have you tested an S or X?

        • +1

You're right, the original Xbox One does not have HDR.

My bad, I was sure I played with HDR settings on this Xbox, but now that I look it's not there.

It has 8 bit colour depth, maybe that's what got me confused.

I replied to the wrong post too.

And no, I haven't tested it on an S or an X model (I'm curious how it would go, but I'm probably going to upgrade to the PS4 Pro, so I'll never know).

          • @BooYa: I picked this up on the other cheaper deal, and you had me worried HDR wasn’t working on the Xbox.
Should be here this week so see how the X looks on it

            • @XCOM v2: Look, it looks great on a standard Xbox One, so I can only imagine it would look even better on the Xbox One S or X.

As for that thing I read about the HDR not being really true HDR10, I'll have a quick look (but even if it was true, it may not apply to this model since it was about the 6100 not the 7 series, and even IF the 7 series doesn't have true HDR it will stil look fantastic, HDR or not).

Every time I walk past a tech section in a shop and I see tvs (and some of the prices), I get reminded that the Samsung TV is one of the best purchases I've ever made, and for that price it's a steal.

              Enjoy.

Ps. This is not the link to where it was claimed that the 6100 didn't have true HDR, but it gives an idea about how tricky HDR naming is (and how misleading it can be in advertising)

              https://www.cnet.com/how-to/can-i-upgrade-my-tv-to-hdr/

Btw. The 7100 model here apparently has "true" HDR10, but it is "limited" according to this reputable review site

              https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/nu7100

  • Postage to the Sunshine Coast in QLD has a $95.40 delivery Charge and yet it says free Postage on this post for QLD…..What's going on ?

    • I would say it only includes QLD metro unless you contact them, same free to rural QLD.

      • If you go to the actual website it is free shipping for 4551…go figure?

    • not sure, mods updated the header, possible its selected suburbs

  • You really need to see a TV in-store. The cricket looked atrocious when I was looking at this model. Might be great for 4K, but I would be wary if your watching FTA sport.

    • depends on the set up and if it was under direct lighting?
some panels are configured better from factory…

friends in retail tell me that occasionally they'll tweak the picture depending on which units they need to push/sell/earn bonus/hit targets

  • -1

There is no way that TV was ever priced at $1799 (powerland website)

  • Just bought for the parents, sorted.

  • +2

You really can't go wrong with this tv.

The best combination of picture quality and features in the sub $1,000 range imho (the only reason some one may prefer another tv in this price range would be a specific feature that may be slightly better on another model).

If you want a tv which you will not regret soon after turning it on, this is the one.

Also, Samsung in-home service is fantastic!

My tv's motherboard or power board failed (the tv only really has those two replaceable parts in the back which makes repairs a breeze).

So, when my tv wouldn't turn on suddenly after 2 months use, Samsung support had it repaired at my home within two working days including Saturday (and they apologised for that as they aim for service next working day).

Repair crew had both boards with them (both sealed Samsung branded genuine parts) as they weren't sure which one needed replacing.

Now you might think how good is a tv that breaks after two months!? I would say it's just bad luck.

The repair crew (which Samsung outsources so they have no need to lie) said to me that they do not get many service requests for Samsung, and when they do, once fixed, the tvs tend to run for years without further help.

Definitely would buy again (if only for the very fast in-home service).

    Ps: NOT made in China!!!

It's made in Vietnam (not great but it's not your typical Chinese crap) with the display panel made in South Korea.

  • If all the major brands are likely to cut prices on their 2018 stock, I might patiently wait for some good deals on LG and Sony.

    • +2

That ship has practically sailed. The LG and Sony TVs were all discounted in Dec/Jan and we are now seeing the Hisense/Samsung discounted as they come to the end of their product life cycles. You may need to be a little more patient (say, Dec 19) to get a good deal on a Sony/LG ;)

  • Here's a great review of this TV (and many other TVs)

    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/nu7100

It actually looks a lot better than it 'looks on paper' in the review (you'll find they're very strict and give 'fairly low scores' even when reviewing some top of the line TVs).

This website is probably 'information overkill' but if you want to know pretty much everything about your tv, this is it.

  • I have this exact model,
it's great and all featuring the usual smart features but does not have bluetooth if that's a thing you need,
there are workarounds with adapters and dongles though.

Great TV use it everyday no issues.

    • does it have a 3.5mm jack?

      • nope only optical

      • If you are desperate, you can buy a cheap digital to analogue converter box for about $10 off ebay. It won't be neat, but it'll be hidden. It will require a power supply too. The cheap ones run to a USB. The same product can come with a power brick but not worth it for an extra 30 odd dollars.

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Digital-to-Analogue-Audio-Conver…

and you will need this cable to plug your 3.5mm in to the L/R of the box. you want the aux to RCA for $3.49

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-5mm-AUX-Female-to-2-RCA-Male-C…

        • Thank you so much. I was asking because i have the logitech z623 speakers i would like to ise amd they only offer audio input. Can i ise the Tv's usb port as a power supply?

          • @Winston100s: just grab a 3.5mm to usb
quick google search will show yoi where you can get them

          • @Winston100s: im really not sure, but you can buy USB power supplies pretty cheap off ebay. That DAC comes with the cable, but not the USB power supply

    • That's a bit odd. I have the 6100 which has Blutooth, and a Blutooth keyboard and mouse work ok with it.

Why would they put in a feature one year, only to remove it on basically the same model, next year?

  • Instead of paying for postage you can pick it up from JB hifi for 780

    • Good thing the app is not available in Australia then. Also, they were referring to other models I think.

Anyway, not a good sign, Samsung is usually much better than that (I wonder how many units it affected).

  • I am struggling to decide between this one and LG 60" 60UK6200PTA Ultra HD Smart TV, the lg one is 5 inch bigger and $100 more expensive. Anyone has any experience to share please, it would be much appreciated.

    • go with the LG haha
      better panels imo

  • I had a quick read of the eBay T&Cs for this 15% offer (capped at $200 off), and it says to enter the code "PACKAGE" not "PIXIES".

What's the story there? Do they both work? Anyone actually go through the checkout process who can share?

Also, I couldn't find the expiry date for this "PACKAGE" offer (just says "until withdrawn").
