Herman Miller Embody Chair - $1598 (Pickup in QLD / Arrange Your Own Shipping) @ Innerspace

140

Saw a few Herman Miller deals in the last few weeks but none for the Embody which I prefer to the Aeron. Picked mine up today. Normally around $1800.

    What a crock.

  • Thanks OP.

I believe the standard material is Rhythm, however it can also be customised to Balance. Has anyone tried and can comment on the different materials?

Rhythm is rougher material and balance is smoother and I would say more breathable. It's a fairly big difference in terms of the initial feel but unless you are sitting on it without a shirt on then you probably won't notice that much. When I bought my embody it was a +$200 option but I also had to wait like 12 weeks for it to be delivered cause its counted as a custom so that was pretty crazy

I think if you are going to spend that much on a chair then +200 shouldnt mean that much, its more just about the wait time imo

      • I think if you are going to spend that much on a chair then +200 shouldnt mean that much

I just spent 1583 on a TV, it was $200 more many times.

The thing about task seats (to give them their proper name) is if you use it every day for hours it works out cheaper than buying a $200 chair every 2 years for a 16 year period - remember money is worth less in 16 years due to inflation.

Plus, you will not have physical issues arising from posture when seating for long periods and you will be supremely comfortable as you only can be in a chair that has adjustments for everything.

      • Thank you!

Got mine a 2nd hand 5 year old Embody for $850 2 months ago.

Before that I almost bought a1.5 year old Embody @ $1,200.

If I haven't got mine, I would have got this or from the livingedge @ $1,650.

You have got to be joking

  • I thought that was 159 and then was tempted, but over a grand no way

People seem to be up in arms that a chair like this could cost so much yet happily pay the same or more for a mattress or a TV? If you do a lot of time sitting, $1600 is an investment if it means looking after your back. And it has a huge warranty period.

I'm not up in arms. Rich people are entitled to spend big on their stuff, it helps the economy as well. But please don't mistake this as an investment for the heath of your back/joints. This thing is comfortable and allow you to sit for hours on end without fatigue. But sitting for hours is the worst thing you can do for your back. You need to rotate your postures periodically i.e. Standing, sitting upright, sit on an exercise ball, stand on a balace board etc.

Also, I find my 300 mattress off boxing sale more comfortable than the 5k one that my parents own. Good mattress is a worthwhile investment but the highend stuff brings very little value over the mid range ones.

      • And you've just totally ignored the point.

This is an investment for your posture back and joints, whether you're sitting for a short time or a long time.

The cheap chairs, at first you think this is great for such a low price, what you don't notice is over a year or two, the joints are weaken the padding is half gone/worn down, the chair is uncomfortable, your body has also adjusted to it.

The comparison is between cheap and expensive chairs.

Standing up and moving around applies too all chairs.

I have this chair, its really awesome.

  • Have Herman Miller Aeron at home and Sayl at work, worth every penny spent. I spend 10+ hours in front of computers for work each day.

    • Sayl.. urk. Sorry to hear that. Unadjustable and impractical.

Aeron, Mirra, Embody I get (I own a Mirra), but Sayl is just pretending to be a real chair in the hopes of snagging $ from anyone unable to afford a better model. I'd wager it disappoints more often than pleases (buyer reluctance to admit a bad purchase notwithstanding)

      • I have a Mirra for 14years structurally pretty good where its not broken…

  • Good chair. Partner works for the government and have all HM chairs in their offices. Our tax is well spent :)

    • no wonder why they are always relaxed in da chair when i visit gov offices.

  • Just use a cushiony reclining chair.. It seems to be the best fix so far for me until I find another one with even more lumbar support.
