Xiaomi S50 Buy Now or Wait for Sale?

I would like to buy a robot vacuum. After doing research, I thought the Xiaomi s50 (2nd gen) was best value. It's currently $540 including delivery from Amazon . Plus, I get a 5% cashback from cashrewards, bring it to $513.

Looking back at ozbargain deals, it goes a lot cheaper during sales, for example ebay sales from seller Gearbyte for $432. I just don't know when the sales are going to be, and whether it's better to buy from Amazon, for their cusotmer service, in case something goes wrong.

Can anyone tell me if they think the next sale is? Do you think it's better to buy from Amazon? Does amazon have sales of this vacuum (can't see any good ones per ozbargain history)?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Your place will get pretty dirty the longer you wait.

    • Yeah, it is :(

  • why is the 2nd gen better than the 1st gen?
( I have the 1st, happy with it, had fro ~2 years).

I've heard the 1st Gen has trouble with higher pile rugs/carpets. I've got the 2nd gen and it has no issue at all with my rugs.

    • I heard the second gen has laser navigation instead of infra red and it's a bit more accurate. Also, as DoaAn said, it has better cord/carpet recognition. My partner is a mess who often leaves cables dangling on the floor, so I didn't want it trapped in the vac.

thanks, yes my 1st gen will ge tangled up in a cord if given half a chance.

  • just wait for an ebay sale. Got mine for just under $400

    • Wow! Who was the seller? Was it their sale or was it a sitewide sale? That's a great price!

        was this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/424356
Dont think its been this cheap since but no way i would pay over $500

        • Wow that's cheap! Less than $400, with ebay 10% off sitewide. They don't even sell for less than $500 standard price right now.

I'm going to throw my hat into the ring and suggest Neato.

My XV-21 is still going strong after 6 years. Did require a battery replacement 4 years ago ($65). And just replaced the roller rubbers 2 weeks ago ($3).

    • That is a great lifespan. I've never thought about a Neato. It looks pretty good - a bigger capacity, and its D shape would probably do corners better than the Xiaomi. It's also a lot more pricey (around $1000) compared to the Xiaomi, and doesn't mop.

I love that the Neato has been so cheap to run for you, and I'm really tempted, but as this is my first robot vacuum, I'm going to stick to something a bit lower budget to see how well it works for me. Thanks so much for your input!

      • What I love about neato is the owner/boss/creator is really into robotics. He and his team create battle bots for robot war competitions.

        That's real R&D there.

        My neato was $360.

You can get it on eBay now for $479 with code PASSIONATE

Personally am waiting for a better deal based on some of the prices seen not that long ago.

    • Thanks! That's much cheaper than I have found so far. It's also got a 12 month warranty. It also the version with Australian plug.

      Thanks so much!

      • No worries. Are you buying? I’m tempted as I’m super keen to get one but the OzB’er in me is wanting to be patient. So conflicted lol.

        • I am going to wait till the end of the day and I will prob just get it. As Tightbottom said, my house is not getting any cleaner! I just have to not feel pain at the extra $50-80 I spend :( lolol. Also, cashrewards no longer offers cashback for ebay. What's with that?

          • @janeymac:

            What's with that?
eBay stopped that a while ago.

            • @Pecan: I didn't know that. Sad.

            • +1

@Pecan: Dude, I bought it with your discount code. Paid $479.20 including delivery. No regrets. I love it, it works great, the app is great. Plug and play operation, very quiet, climbs over obstacles and flat enough to go under my low sofa. Picked up so much dog hair, I couldn't believe it. It runs daily now, sometimes several times a day, just for entertainment value haha. Our friends have come over and they all want one, now.

              Thanks for the discount code!

              • @janeymac: Glad to hear you like it. Still waiting for a better price here, but patience is wearing thin!

  • Any deals??
