Finally pulled the trigger on two of these.
12 in stock at time of posting so get in quick!

It is an IPS Panel but according to this review, it seems like a good pick for a wide gamut monitor, especially for the price.

RRP for a new one is $799 on the Dell website.
Mwave has it cheaper for $579.

A good monitor and nice price, it is getting on in its life span with the new 19DC variants coming out with thinner bezels and USB-C

  • Not knowing much about monitors, what makes the Dell better than something like this from Kogan? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-27-qhd-led-monitor/

    • +1

Mainly the panel quality, which is a pretty big and worthwhile thing

      • +1

When you say panel quality are we talking colour reproduction or what exactly is benefited from a higher panel quality?

        • +4

Refresh Rate, PPI, Colour Gamut, Contrast, Dimming zones, Light Bleed, Brightness, Design, Viewing Angles, Image Retention, Reflection, Motion Blur, Flicker etc

      • and quality of the external frame itself. My kogan has the roughest aluminium? frame. Just crap. Wish I had stuck to dell

    • It really will depend on how you wish to use the monitor; https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/monitors off er a well objective opinion with many different metrics to compare.

End of the day the paper stats don't always measure up, and certain features will effect your enjoyment depending on your environment.

Many people are very happy with their Kogan monitors, but I haven't seen a thorough review detailing bleed/colour accuracy/speed so it's very subjective without side by side comparisons.

    • Also bezel width, the Dells generally have slimmer bezels and users that need multi-monitor setups go for these kind of monitors. Not to say other brands don't do slim bezels, but at 25" it's not very common (especially for 1440p resolution). Dell monitors generally are the beezneez and has everything; lots of connection types, high quality panels, VESA mounting, slim bezels and monitor stand (allowing portrait, height and swivel) to name a few.

Generally, 27" monitors are more common with 1440p resolution (like the Kogan one you linked).

  • is this overkill as a work monitor? main use will be excel

    • +1

Entirely depends on your budget, hours of use, and how much you enjoy nice things. But, yes it is kind of overkill. It's a good price though, but more suited to photo editing, design, watching movies, etc. Less suited to office work or gaming. You're paying a lot for colour calibration, and dynamic range. It's not designed to be fast enough for gaming, and colour accuracy likely will never be an issue for your Excel work.

Depending on how elaborate your Excel usage is, I'd most likely be looking in the sub $200 range. Or even 2 * ~$150 1080p screens or something for extra productivity and work space. Sorry for the long answer, tl;dr yes it's most likely overkill for your needs.

      • Thanks :))

Pretty much anything on the first couple of pages will suit your needs:

          REFURBISHED
          Dell 24 Monitor - P2419H
          SKU: P2419HR129

There's some cheaper screens around $99, but for an extra 30 bucks you can get a P2419H which is a couple of inches bigger and a newer model/features etc. Up to you, but with the limited info I have on your use case, I'd highly suggest grabbing one of those P2419H at $129 while you can. Original price on them is still $359. 4 in stock. Current model. Comes with warranty. Best of luck :)

Thanks to the original poster!!! Have one u2515h and it's unreal, paired with two random lower res monitors.

Grabbed two of these at $345 (ex GST) and I can finally design trusting colour on my secondary monitors! (And relieve my eyes of adjusting to differing res/blurriness as I look between screens)

    • No worries! Good luck with your design work!
