    wow - that's a panic play.
    bit worried about apex huh?

    • +8

Don't think it's a panic play at all. The mob down at epic seem to be very on point with all the business moves they have made. Think about it, they ran this season longer for a reason. They knew apex was coming and that if it was half decent people would try it. They want to bring people back in fortnite. So, you bring them back with an incentive, make them grind some challenges and give them a free pass. More reason for them to keep playing. Especially when they are so invested in the ecosystem. That's all epic have done with this game. Just keep the kids playing and they will spend. Didn't spend on a season pass so I'll spend on a skin instead. .

      • +6

Highly doubt they knew Apex was coming because even industry insiders had little idea about the game until perhaps a day or two before it got released. While 'panic play' may be an exaggeration, this is undoubtedly an obvious attempt to keep/gain people on their game as they will definitely be worried about just how fast Apex is rising.

It's a worrying sign when it takes barely a couple of days for your biggest twitch streamers to move off your game and start almost solely playing Apex. Ninja, arguably the biggest name on Twitch at the moment, has been playing Apex non stop for the past week. Even his next stream is literally titled "Apex All Day".

        • Cos he is getting paid lol

          • @RI4V4N: And Epic were paying Ninja and all these other content creators to play their game back when it released…

Will be interesting to see where both these games will stand a month from now.

    • +1

So progress in a video game is a deal now?

'Finish the game and unlock new game+ for free!'

Or is it only a deal if the game has microtransactions to let you unlock new game+ early so you can match the content to a monetary value?

      • +4

Welcome to the last 6 years of video games.

        • Legit question. Recently for honor became free to play on psn. It uses a purchasable currency to unlock most of the content in the game (characters, costumes, items etc.)

And by playing games online, finishing tutorials, finishing single player you unlock small amounts of this currency.

So legit ozbargain is happy to have a deal that tells you to play online/tutorials in for honor to get free currency?

          Would this deal be acceptable?

          • +2

@Bryanalves: Many game have micro transaction bonus from in game play this is on a much larger scale and saves many ppl real $$$

      • It's 950 V-Bucks for the Season 7 battle pass. You can buy 1000 V-Bucks buy for $14.95
SO yes this is a deal.

    • +4

Yep massive panic. They probably saw the massive drop in players over the last few days. Apex is the real deal.

  • +2

Only small children seem to play Fortnite these days

    • +27

      Easy kills.

      • +5

Now I want to play this game to obliterate 9 year olds

        • +1

Mate do it and upload to YouTube… you’d get destroyed.

        • The bro army may come and get you.

          smash the + button.

        • +7

Like every other kid, my kid plays it, while I'm playing Blackout or have just started playing Apex. I wouldn't want to go back to Fortnite after watching him play! These kids are super focused, while dad's probably hungover.

  • +8

APEX did to Fortnite what Fortnite did to PUBG what PUBG did to H1Z1.

    Now im confused.

      • +11

I would say pubg just committed suicide hahaha

        • Fluro space guns

        • +2

judging from the negs, people are salty about pubg being bad LOL

          • -1

            @HappyXD: No, you're just wrong.

Anyone who plays PUBG would choose it for the best gunplay out of all the BR games. You then compared it to Blackout which has horrible gunplay.

Let's be real, all the games are bad now.

            • +2

@dv1den: I played PubG because it was first person, but when the aussie FPP servers died out it was the end of the game for us.

I love that Apex is FPP and squads only, now that I have finally fixed my crashing issue it's a blast.

      • +8

Blackout never kicked off like any of these games though, it didn't kill anything.

        • +4

Only thing Blackout killed was itself.

    • +1

Is anyone actually and genuinely playing Apex? I've seen a lot of popular youtubers playing Apex recently ie. Lazarbeam, but they were all paid to play and stream it.

      • +10

Yep, and having a ball with it too. Probably the most enjoyable Battle Royale game I’ve played.

      • Yep, I'm playing it. I only really played PUBG and Factorio prior to its release, and now I'm only playing Apex!

      • +5

After the first week the game had logged 25 million unique players and over 2 million concurrent at peak. You should really check it out, the game is amazingly well polished and really refined a lot of the core battle Royale gameplay.

From simple things like dropping from the plane as a combined unit to the more awesome things like the ping system they have really had a look at all the QoL improvements they could make.

That's not even getting into the extremely fluid movement and fantastic gun handling brought over from Titanfall and the great netcode/hit registration in gameplay. They also have a revive system where if your team mates reach you in time they grab your tags and can take it to a respawn drop machine to get you back in.

Really well made and fun game to play.

      • Yep… its pretty good. Reminds me of Destiny(crucible) or Overwatch.

        • Yep. Apex is a great game. Much better then Blackout and Fortnite in my opinion. However I still prefer PUBG for long range combat and normal combat encounters. In PUBG if your in a 1v4 situation, if you take the enemy by surprise, it’s actually viable to engage the enemy, as you can actually win.

        • +1

          "reminds me of destiny crucible"
Dear god, right now thats not a compliment.
though the similarities of them being overrun with shotguns that should probably be nerfed makes the comparison accurate.

      • Played one game. Didn't know what i was doing but managed to follow my squad around. Hit nothing. We won anyway. Comment at the end from my team mate was. "You did basically nothing but good game buddy". It was about as interesting as watching mould form on bread. I much prefer playing Fortnite with my kids. As for APEX, I have a 100% win rate on that game. I wouldn't want to spoil it by playing again.

    • -8

That's the industry today. Everyone wants to release the same game to suckers.

  • -1

This isn’t free. When you have to exchange so much of your time for something, that thing isn’t “free”.

    Belongs in the forum.

    • +15

The battle pass normally costs ~$14. This is now free.

This might not be a bargain to you, but it is for those interested - see the recent Free CBD parking deal.

      *grabs popcorn

        • +3

          It’s a joke you coconuts.

          • +3

@cnut: pretty crappy joke, I like how everyone calls something a joke these days.

            (profanity) Retard.

            ^ Just a joke guys!

            • -1

@Siliwinter: I was talking about negging something else.

Nice to see I made a bunch of Fortnite players addicts so salty though.

              • @cnut: That's the kind of people that play these games… same game with another skin populated by the same immature, obnoxious 11 year old or mental equivalent.

Toxic environment full of mindless screen addicts who get triggered by their mum calling telling them that they need to go to the toilet.

                • @imurgod: Just curious, why are you so upset about the games existence?

Did the 9 year olds hurt you? :(

                  • +2

@Ughhh: Don’t think he’s upset. We just don’t see that POS the same way. Some see it as entertainment, we see it as repetitive, addictive BS that’s carefully engineered to suck people in and waste countless hours/days/years of their life.

                    • -1

@cnut: Or to put it another way, we see it for what it is.

Amazes me that people defend it knowing what it is. I suppose drug addicts do the same thing.

We know you're self-loathing but it's your own fault for being sucked in.

Game devs effectively removed all the game and leave you a single, tiny portion of a mode that goes nowhere and you get salty of anyone mentions it!

It's exactly the same as a car manufacturer all of a sudden selling you just one wheel and you applaud them for it. Idiot.

You'll look back in 10 years and hate what you've become, mountain dew boy, watching streamers play games, pretending that somehow that's not a waste of life, all the while fantasising that the streamer is your girlfriend and sending her money. So sad.

Use your brain, don't be a sheep all of your life.

                      • +2

@imurgod: Lmao you make a lot of baseless accusations and have a great imagination for a tiny head. Well done! You must be the product of a fortnite addict.

I'm sorry for what the 9yo have done to make you become so bitter. Rest well my friend, never expected an essay long rant about a dumb game from someone who proclaims to be so smart. I won't neg you back, just incase that triggers another emotional rant from you.

                        • -2

                          @Ughhh: Awww salty! Love it!
You know you're getting upset over a kids game, right? A game for children,9 year olds as you keep bringing up…. I'll let you figure the rest out.

                          • +2

@imurgod: I recall you were the one who started ranting and getting all emotional, hating a game.

Dementia or just reading what you like to see? Typical childish behaviour. I feel sorry for you and any children you raise.

                            • -2

@Ughhh: No, it was you who got upset.

I merely disliked the game and, more importantly, the insidious business model.

                              You took it personal.

I don't blame you, it's obviously all you have.

Don't worry, my children are set up for life. Feel sorry for your own kids, they'll need pity. Maybe they'll work for me and rent from me one day.

                              Good luck in life.

                    • +1

@cnut: He's put in a lot of emotion, lots of hate in the comment. I would say theres more important things in life to have such strong feelings about, but obviously this triggered him.

It's the art of business. Every game you play is designed you suck you in, if you don't see that, then you're just as blind as the fortnite addicts you talk about, biased too.

    • +2

Considering the amount of Fortnite players. Out there and the fact they would b playing anyway this is a great deal.
Ppl even like the deals where u get a $10 voucher for a 1 hr boring survey.

Most deals require some effort - phoning, driving, setting up accounts, time etc anyway.

      • $10 for 1h? My definition of a deal is vastly different. 😂

        • As opposed to $0 per hour, I don't get how that's so hard to understand. I don't even play Fortnite but getting something free as opposed to getting nothing is not a deal how?

          • +1

            @Jasonissm: I was replying to $10 for doing a survey for 1h.

    • If you hate it so much that you view it as exchanging your time for the battle pass, perhaps buying more of the same game isn't the best idea.

The challenges aren't particularly difficult, so far. There's always the chance that the ones that they unlock over the next few days will be savage.

  • It's not free, no, but a bargain isn't free either, so I am fine with it being on here, as it is a method through which you can obtain a discounted Battle Pass for no extra charge.

Wish they did this last season when I finally caved and bought the Battle Pass, and right before I stopped playing the game too. But oh well, still very nice of them to do, considering they make an absolute killing off this game and have zero reason to give anyone anything.

    • -6

You don’t value your time much, do you?

Time is money. So this isn’t free or a deal.

      • +4

There's no point in getting something for free if you weren't going to use it anyway. This deal would only appeal to people who are already playing or thinking to play. So no time is wasted when you were going to do it regardless.

Are you going to neg a freebie deal for another state, because you would have to waste time driving over 10hrs to get it?

        • +2

If everyone had to waste 10h of their life to get it, probably.

Also how is this different to any other “deal” in a game where you have to do X or spend Y time to unlock something?

It’s like saying “free loot box if you play 10 rounds of whatever”.

          • +2

            @cnut:

If everyone had to waste 10h of their life to get it, probably.

You're assuming everyone here lives 10hrs away. I don't live in Sydney, so maybe I should neg every Sydney exclusive deal?

Also how is this different to any other “deal” in a game where you have to do X or spend Y time to unlock something?

Because if you're genuinely interested, and not a troll policing everything unrelated to you, you were going to play it anyway. Difference is without this promo, you would've had to pay to get the bonus.

It’s like saying “free loot box if you play 10 rounds of whatever”.

If you were already playing 10 rounds, what's the problem with getting a free loot box? You want to play 10 rounds and then pay for loot box?

        • +1

You're doing challenges to get the battle pass…you do challenges every week to move up tiers in the battle pass. Is it not all the same? Pretty much free because it's doing the same thing you're wanting to do anyway.

          • +1

@whitelie: Exactly. The challenges spice up the game. If I'm doing the challenges anyway, I'd rather get a free battle pass for it, rather than spending 1000vbuck (however much it cost) to get the battle pass.

  • +9

Work 38 hours and get paid. Ozbargain post.

    • Only 38 hours? That actually would be a bargain!

    • -1

Would it be a deal if the boss gave you a bonus for driving(or any kind of transport) to work, Something you were doing anyway but never got paid for?

    • +1

It would get moved to forum for not enough job available, can't post limited qty deal ;)

    • Work 38 overtime hours and get paid.

      FTFY.

    • If you find Fortnite to be "work" you don't need a battle pass.

I'd have spent about 6-8 hours on the 8 challenges they've released so far. Keep in mind I'm really bad at the game. My son did it quicker.

  • -1

Thanks for the Post! Add me if you want to duo sometime it's my Ozbargain username, w/o the spaces!

    My K.D is around 1.5-3 lately… so I'm 'O.K'

  • +5

Pretty sure this is to combat Apex Legends. Fortnite is a little bit unfriendly to new players as the building system is complicated and experienced players can always gain advantage because of that.(and that's why fortnite is fun as well) Apex however, focuses more on shooting and strategy. Its trying to make everything simple and intuitive. I'd say if you are interested in Fortnite, give Apex a go as well.

    • Thanks for this. Have seen a lot of talk about Apex and was wondering what the building situation was (cos I suck at the 'cubby house battles'). Might give it a shot.

      • +1

No building in Apex thank god but there is a number of player classes available so it might be worth watching a YouTube video about what each class ability does so you know what to expect when you see them in battle.

    • And providing a few cosmetic items is going to make it friendly to new players and enable them not to get crushed by pros who outbuild them?

  • Pretty certain the campaign (Save the World) was meant to go free a very long time ago. As far as I know that still hasn't happened. Have lost hope (and interest)

    • Yep, they delayed the release from 2018 to 2019. 99% is due to the success of Battle Royale.

  • +1

It appears the decent has began. I hope it doesn't die, we need fortnite to keep all the kids busy and away from other games.

    • +1

      The decent what has begun?

      • +1

        The decent descent?

        • Username checks out :D But thank you for the save!

      • Haha I knew I messed that up but for some reason I continued with life :D. It's nice though, I got to meet you!

    • Minecraft or Roblocks is good

      • Yeah but I don't think they have the draw of kids like fortnite.

        • Oh I dunno…my son wanted to check out Fortnite, so I downloaded it. He had a go, and then rent back to Roblox.

Me however…I'm uh…cough playing Fortnite cough…most every day.

I wanted to try Apex, but now Epic's given me another challenge to slave away on, so…must…get…more…bling.

          Drool…babble…drool…
