  • Got One !!!!! Big thanks from me !

    • no problem man - I personally wont be getting one because its alot of money to outlay when I have a laptop :)

  • Plus shipping, $6.95. However, thats around 1.2% of the 32 gig and less than 1% of the price of the 64 gig, so not complaining.

    • +4

and we all know how well you can tell a true bargain….

      • And inevitably it will be less next week. Trust.

        • +4

And even less in a couple of years! Then it'll be a REAL bargain!

    • -2

this makes more sense as a sarcastic remark, esp given the username. cheers!

      • +1

        +1

  • +6

i'm fairly sure bigw have the 64gb 3g model at $649 everyday price now for stores that still have them

    • Yes, I agree. This is not a bargain, especially counting the potentially horrible experience dealing with COTD.
Also, COTD should do better price and yet, they bow down to Apple well known tactics to NOT discounting their product too much even it is already superseded by new gen.

      • +1

yeah, they could do a better price, however COTD isn't a benevolent institution. it is a business set up to make money.

I've bought from COTD once (32inch LCD TV) and the experience was like any internet shopping experiencce. I paid for the item and a few days later the delivery person delivered my item.

any online business could provide a "potentially horrible experience".

Any "in person" shopping experience result in a "potentially horrible experience".

        your comment is void.

        • +3

You received your COTD order a few days after ordering - UNPOSSIBLE!

The big drawback (for me) with dealing with COTD is the interminable "processing" delays on their order system.

Never gotten anything sooner than 2 full weeks after ordering

        • -1

a few days to a week for delivery. it was no drama. no different from when I've previously bought stuff online, or over the phone, or in person but required delivery

    • +4

And if you buy from Big W and have a woolies everyday rewards card, you'd get over 500 QFF points.

  • +4

    I bought my 32GB 3G+Wifi for $900+ last year =(

    • +2

I'm simply reflecting sadly at being a foolish earlier adopter. I purchased my toy just 6 months ago. If only I'd waited a little bit more, I could have purchased an iPad 2 or a MUCHMUCH cheaper ipad 1. I'm simply crying over spilt milk. I guess there are some people who don't allow others to reflect loudly. The infamous anonymous neg stick….. bring it on ;p

      • +3

Hardly an early adopter… more like the late majority.. ozbargainers are in a new league…

        • +1

Thanks for pointing that out, Einstein. Note that I used the word EARLIER instead of early…. If I was an early adopter.. I would have had at least got my money's worth of use before the launch of iPad2. But buying one only a few months prior to the announcement of the ipad2 makes me cringe when I saw the price of the ipad 1 crash. Hence the whine with my cheese… comprehende? Whatever…

        • -1

          lol, reeeeeeeeeooooooooooowwwwww:D

      • -1

        Thankyou for the compliment!

  • +10

just checking the price on ebay…you can get 649 or less on ebay at the moment. so the COTD price is just ok..but not "real bargain"

    • +1

Just checked ebay… cheapest Brand New, BIN, 64GB 3G was $750…

  • +18

3 months ago this would be a real bargain.
Now it's just another Crap of the Day.

    • My thoughts too. Complete waste of time posting this tripe here.

  • +1

Hardly a "Catch" more of "yesterdays jam"
Would rather get a Xoom Wi-Fi for $599

  • +4

They've pictured a 2nd generation too. I am so over COTD.

    • Unless they've changed it since you wrote this that's incorrect. The picture shows an iPad 1.

    • Pics are of 1st Gen iPad, ie what they are selling.

  • Comparing apples to apples (if you'll pardon the pun), $549 for a new 64GB iPad 1 won't even buy you a 16GB iPad 2 (RRP of $579).

      • +2

I completely agree that Apple are expert at doing exactly what you say, but I don't understand your namecalling here. I simply pointed out that this deal is much cheaper than buying a current model iPad.
And as for being an Apple 'Fanboy' - I own neither an iPad or a Mac.

        • +1

ur comparison wud only make this "bargain" decrease in value, one would be better off purhcasing an ipad 2 for a marginal increase in price

or even better off by not buying a giant ipod touch at all in the first place

        • +1

was just a general statement thrown in the air, not specific towards you kind sir

      • -2

What relevance is your comment? Your neg should be voided.

        • +3

This is the same price that Target and BigW had = no bargain

  • +1

Tempting as it is to neg this just because it's COTD, it's actually a good price. Apple still has this at $839.

    http://store.apple.com/au/product/MC497X/A?mco=MjEzNzE1ODk

  • +7

No it's not the iPad 2 pictured

  • +9

Absolutely pointless, the performance and size improvements for iPad 2 are worth much more than the extra memory in 64GB - you can comfortably get by with 16GB.

    • +1

What??? How do you know what I, or anyone else, can comfortably get by with?

  • -5

    Crap of the Day -neg

  • +7

I dont see how people are negging when no one has delivered a better price….
come on people link up or shut up

  • +4

Old Model. Just like buying last year's Falcon with a bigger fuel tank. Go for the iPad2.

    • +3

It is an older model, but its cheaper.
Thats why they sell discounted older model cars when the new models are coming out .

  • +1

still seems a bit high for me to be honest, If I was interested in an apple I would definitely be getting a ipad 2 despite the price difference. But Asus eee pad transformer for me I think

    • +2

it is high. if you just want to play games and browse net at home, get secondhand ipad1 the price range is around $250-500.

      • +1

        where from rip-off bay?

        • yeah. or gumtree. or friends.
just bear in mind, 16GB is not recommended, too small for store multiple games/videos/etc.. ipad games can be as big as 800MB each. lots games are in 300-500MB range already.
from iphone (for example) 16gb we can only use around 14GB i think, and once i filled it up till 13.5GB and my iphone hang :(

  • +3

Easy way to get rid of old stocks.

  • +3

Has anyone considered buying ipad2 from US apple store. The price is $699 for 64gb wifi at todays rates(oanda.com)it will be $640 AUD.

    • +3

Yes, just use US shipping service. e.g. Shipito

      • If you have a paypal account. You can easily go to their sister company

        http://www.hopshopgo.com/hsg/welcome.do?l=en&c=

and purchase in US delivered in Au.

        • +1

And you do realise that Apple have been cancelling orders for known forwarders by their shipping address. Whilst people can bang on about how they'll get it cheaper in the US, I'd like to hear of someone's success story…

  • +5

Regardless of any price - COTD will get a -ve from me. They've gotten away WAY too many times, but the 4$ for a POS software was the last straw.

    INSTANT NEG for CoTD!

and yes - any smart person would ship the new version from the US now. Its got a cam, a much better processor and much thinner too. Not much of a deal even when considered.

    • +2

This is cheap, but not a deal or bargain. Still too expensive comparing to US.

      • +3

Pretty much everything here is expensive compared to the US no?

    • +1

"INSTANT NEG for CoTD!" <- You my friend are a big part of the reason this site is becoming less & less useful. Also, as Vladdo stated above, shipping apple products from the US is not as easy as it might seem. Apple will not ship addresses known to be used by forwarders.

      • +2

"INSTANT NEG for CoTD!" <- You my friend are a big part of the reason this site is becoming less & less useful.

        massive +1 for that comment…..

the neg has been taken over by trolls, axe grinders and attention-needers, making it irrelavent and making potential good deals disappear.

        rant over, thanks for listening

        • -1

          Touché kind sir

      • +3

if you dont mind giving your business over and again to a company that treats you likes to bend you over, then by all means - buy from CoTD.

Others with some bit of self respect and integrity will step aside and watch. (I'd much rather give my business to a more deserving honest business).

this is my personal opinion. just coz you disagree doesnt make me wrong. if you think this is a good deal, go for it. i dont, hence the neg (for 2 reasons - old stock + shady company)

        whatever rocks your boat mate.

        • this is my personal opinion. just coz you disagree doesnt make me wrong

correct…. (I don't recall agreeing or disagreeing with any comments….)

however, your neg helps the post disappear for most people…. meaning the deal, and your opinion become largely invisible

        • -1

COTD do sell alot of crap, and they have grazy good deals with virtually no stock, but occasionally they do have good deals that you can actually buy, which is what i look out for. You obviously have a personal vendetta against them, which is not shared by all. Feel free to give your comments/opinion, but don't NEG just because its COTD.

        • -2

I have self respect and integrity, I order occasionally from cotd, and I've never had an issue with cotd, just saying :)

  • +2

Pretty good price. I dont see anyone providing a better price than COTD for a 64gb iPad yet. And as an owner of iPad2 since launch day, i'm pretty disappointed in the built of the new iPad. Too thin, too much issues, 2 visits to the Genius Bar, getting yet another iPad to exchange the faulty one.

  • +1

    Nooooooo bingooooo

  • one question, whats the point of getting an outdated device when there is already a brand new and better device out there already?

    • +2

      spending less?

screen are the same. unless you're dying to use facetime they are pretty similar for day to day use.

I couldn't find any significant difference and returned my ipad 2.

    • +2

some ppl don't need the latest and greatest. If the older version is sufficient, and more cost effective - than its the better option for them.

Not everyone is an early adopter.

    • Apple products are commonly known to hold their value, although i was an early adaptor and purchased the iPad 1 64gb 3G for $1049, the price has fallen dramatically, and todays discounted price for a new iPad 1 looks like a good buy, and the price would not be expected to depreciate too much.

The iPad 2 appears to have a few issues and some people have moved from an iPad 2 to a 1.

If its outdated it would be a netbook. Still a lot of uses for an iPad 1, and the majority of apps still work.

  • since our $$ is so high shopping in US is way better. frysdotcom have everything you need and dam its way cheaper than in aus

    • looks like you need to order it from frys and can't actually buy it online =(

    • irrelevant comment for Apple products, as Apple will not allow resellers to sell international, under threat of removing their reseller status.

  • See below sorry

  • +4

Big news the iPad 2 plays 720p mkv videos with no stuttering
Give it to me baby ahha ahha
1080p output to play video and full screen games
    Oh yeahhhhhh
When jailbroken then full screen wireless controlled emulators
iPad 1 always out of damn memory
Also if you and a friend buy a black and also a white iPad 2 you can smash them
Together and see who is more powerful white or black and get on world news

    • +1

The 720p video playback would be a significant factor for me in choosing iPad2 over iPad1.

But having said that, you could convert the mkv to a native iPad format.

Interestingly, I found out over the weekend that my $299 Samsung Galaxy Tab can also play back 720p mkv smoothly as it uses hardware decoding straight out of the box.

  • +2
  • I would have thought that anyone that MUST have an iPad would already have a gen1 version or more likely the gen 2. If you just want facebook access, mail, angry birds then the Optus My Tab that was just reduced to $150 does that fine for way less $$ and includes 3G access. While my appreciation of COTD has dimished significantly over the last 12 months as their service continues to decline as they become more mainstream, I will not neg just on that alone. At least it seems for a chnage that they had a reasonable amount of stock as they did not sell out in 35 seconds… of course that probably also means it was not a really good bargain either.

  • +1

I would have to agree that extra memory is nothing compared to the improvements made in the ipad2 thinner, dual core, double RAM, if 16GB of primary isnt enough for you then nethier will 64GB. This is old junk for the price of next gen.

  • from COTD web "12.45pm: We've sold a TON of our initial starting quantity of 1700 units, looks like all will be sold by 6pm today!"

    • +1

      agree

    • stealthmatt, forget the haters, most negs should be voided by mods as the comments have no relevance to the deal.

      • +2

mods do not void negs any more….. which is good for them, as I'm sure they have lots of other stuff to do….. but not so good for the site…. in my opinion

  • +1

    everyone to their own.

For some people, its not for them.
For others, it fits perfectly what they need at the right price.

personally, ive bought one of these. Best price for the 1st gen ipad 64GB, its the right product & right physical size for me (which is why i didnt buy the galaxy tab - too small for what i want it for).

    Thanks OP

  • +2

Most have already stated the facts… Catch of the day does not deserve any posts on ozbargains.
    .

    • -4

You want a fact? There are more positives for this deal than negatives!! So tempted to drop a charlie sheen winning quote on you too haha!!

    • -1

Catch of the day does not deserve any posts on ozbargains.

despite all of their negs…. they still have an average of 14.1 positive votes - tis a fact

      some people like em….

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/catchoftheday.com.au?page=…

    • -1

why …. could you highlight the facts please

  • I bought one, it was a bit reflexive thou since i also bought the galaxy tab a week ago, oh well, i thought it was a good deal. But i guess it didn't end up selling out so it wasn't that great, but i cant find cheaper so i am happy.

  • +2

Hah, I was planning to get this from COTD but I hesitated due to their history.
And now.. I guess I'll get it elsewhere.

  • CRAP of the day LOL
