Motorola Moto G6 XT1925 3GB/32GB - Deep Indigo $249 Delivered (Grey Import) @ TobyDeals (Pricebeat $236.55 @ Officeworks)

230

With all those recent deals on Samsung mobiles, I thought I'd mix it up a bit.

I present you a few Motorola deals:

I bought the G6 at Officeworks, first shop told me they don't price beat Hong Kong. Second shop took 10min to confirm they do, so all good.

G6 has B28, NFC, jack, dual Sim, sd card, big screen, fast charge.
It is lacking: wireless charging and waterproof (I think it's IP57, but you want IP67)

  • Would it be better to get the G6 or go up a level and get G6 Plus, or even something like Nokia 8 (not the Sirocco) for the better chipset and RAM?

    • +3

How much more would that be?
I needed the "ozbargain royale suite": B28, NFC, jack, dual Sim, sd card, big screen, fast charge.
For $236.55 and potentially an upgrade to android 9.0, that's pretty sweet. The G6 plus may be too big. Nokia 8 is way more exxy right?

      • +1

Fair points. Both G6 Plus and Nokia 8 should have the requirements you're looking for, but trawling a bit on the Tobydeals website to see the prices they are kinda steeper (90 more for G6 Plus, 120 more for Nokia 8). Plus for the Nokia 8 it's already out for a year and a half so perhaps it won't get supported anymore with OTA updates. I'm more looking for a better chipset, hence the question popped up.

How about the Moto Z2 Play. I got one from eBay for $354 two weeks ago, and you can currently get them for that price from Sydney mobileciti_estore with 12% off code PSAVEIT.

          Specs:
4gB/64gB, 5.5" full HD super AMOLED screen, 3000mAh battery, NFC, band 28, dual SIM, dedicated micro SD up to 256gB, Snapdragon 626 Octa-core 2.2 GHz Cortex-A53, Adreno 506, front fingerprint scanner(!), front flash, currently up to Oreo 8.0.0 but will be receiving Pie.

It's a very thin and light but extremely well made phone. I recommend it highly, especially at that price.

          • +1

@raymosaurus: Whew, that sounds rather nice. I'll give it a look - thanks for the heads up!

          • @raymosaurus: how's the camera on the Z2 Play? I don't need naything amazing, just taking photos of my kid and whatnot

            • +1

@anawth: It takes great shots in well lit daylight, inside or out, takes pretty good shots in low light, so no complaints there.

With the default camera app, it however does have a bit of a shutter lag of about .5 seconds. That will cause you to miss shots of kids on the odd occasion. That said, it can shoot very rapidly in burst mode by just holding down the button, either on screen or by holding down the volume down button.

I have not yet tried any other camera apps; it hasn't been a significant problem for me. Other apps may or may not be faster.

One thing I would love to see in future motos is an extra, wide angle camera. My partner has an LG G6+ with a standard focal length rear camera as well as a super wide angle camera right next to it. I'm always envious when she effortlessly fits everything into the shot when using the wide angle camera. The Z2 Play is a better device overall though, in my opinion.

I see it's currently going for just $343.62 with code POST10 at mobile_citi eBay store. Cracking price. Android for the win!!

      • I agree, if only it had wireless charging though!

… and you missed big battery.

        • +1

Tbh, I bought a wireless charger in recent deal, and used it with my S7 through the case. It works, but nowhere as fast as wired. And CBF to remove the case to charge, that takes longer than plugging the cable ^^
I prefer efficiency over convenience, hence don't really mind about wireless charger

        • fast doesn't necessarily mean better, in fact, typically it heats up the battery and reduces the life… a good slow cool charge is usually best. I usually charge my phone over night, (which again isn't great for battery longevity) so speed isnt an issue, I'm a bit of a fan boy for wireless charging though, as cables are always breaking for me…

      • You do realise that the moto g6 doesn’t have NFC right? It also doesn’t have a notification LED just fyi

        • +1

          G6 play doesn't. G6 and G6+ do.
Not that I really often use NFC…

          • @ShouldIBuyIt: The specs on officeworks site clearly says

            NFC (Near Field Communication) Compatible
            N/A

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: The Officeworks website is clearly wrong lol
              Previous deal

              • @ShouldIBuyIt: GSM arena also say it doesn’t have it unless it’s the European model

                • @[Deactivated]: RichardL said it has NFC and i believe Ozbargain :-)
I could also open the box and check, but I've got some work too…..

                  • @ShouldIBuyIt: I believe in facts! So far the facts are it doesn’t have it. Please prove me wrong once you’ve opened yours:)

                • @[Deactivated]: GSM Arena's database is not totally complete.

    • Get the plus,

Activate your free PRIME trial and price match to AMAZON.

      • Why do U need prime trial to price match? If you're thinking about showing them free delivery, it won't work as they check on their computer.

        • Never have the 20+ times ive done it.

They've made me refresh the site to make sure im not up to something, but thats all.

  • Cheers, price beats aren't a valid deal though.

    • +7

$249 is cheapest posted. That's the deal. Price beat is just the cherry on top

      • +3

If anyone can get a G6 price beat for $236.55 from Officeworks for local stock, that's a great deal for a decent phone.

Can always get better if you pay more, but then where do you stop.

For people only wanting to spend around $200-$250 this is a great choice if your lucky/skilled to snare one for OW.

  • +1

Does anyone know how to go about price beating with Officeworks online?

    • You have to call them

    • +3

You need to call them. Or be lucky enough to manage to chat with them ^^

    • Yes, I would like to know also as I have never attempted Any Price Beat from Officeworks ever. I know, not in true Ozbargain spirrit.

I have read that sometimes online will decline to price beat certain deals, but then some stores will do it in person/call them up.

Really sounds like just depends on product/staff member/mood/store manager etc,…..roll of the dice with a twist of luck lol.

      • +3

2nd store initially said they don't price match overseas. Then I just told them "I thought you changed your policy last year, and now you just need to be delivered in Australia" and that went through.
First shop, I was on my way to work, couldn't be bothered arguing about new policy.

        • Thanks for the tip. Need to be correctly informed to be as positive and clear with staff as possible.

          As they say,….knowledge builds confidence.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: That's why one should spend at least 8h a day on ozbargain lol
            Fyi, price beat discussion here

  • +1

Latest call to the officeworks hotline says they no longer price match Tobydealsau!

    • +1

YMMV. Try again and talk to someone else who knows their policy ;-)

      • Called 3 times today. Every time I mention Tobydealsau they say no without even checking. Apparently memo from head office.

        • What is the reason they are rejecting it? Their own policy says they should do it. I would ask to speak to a Manager and then read out their policy to them….

          • @billy_bob: Two said no outright to Tobydealsau. The other is saying it doesn't include the -7 model part.

          • @billy_bob: Went in-store to ask if they'll price match and the dude said they got a memo that Toby is selling second hand/refurb stock.

Also the mentioned time the OW spec has -7 on it

          • @billy_bob: Needs to be identical item so SKU not just model number …

        • Go in-store? Melbourne Elizabeth had 5 (and 5 G5s which is surprising) and my local had 2 left.

      • +2

Rang OW. They wouldn't price match TobyDeals for the reasons stated above. But they did price match
        eglobalcentralau

        https://www.eglobalcentralau.com/motorola-moto-g6-xt1925-3gb…

so that might work for some people.

        • Nice one, even better price

          • @nubzy: Same price as tobydeals overall as eglobalcentral charged $15 shipping.

            • @reunig: Please PM your receipt, ive been in store and they refused, same with the guy on phone call to 1300 number. That woild be very helpful thank you.

  • Thanks for the post.

Thoughts of the Asus Zenfone Max Plus for $174 compared to the Moto G5? More interested in ease of use (regular software updates- Android version), battery life, fingerprint reader, camera, B28.

As I see, Asus has the better battery and G5 has better screen (Gorilla glass)…

I'm guessing with no need for USB-C or NFC, I shouldn't be concerned with the G6 (although not sure about software).

    Cheers

  • The G7 and all of its variants have released recently. No announcement on Aus release however. So if you want something newer, probably best to wait.

    • +1

gonna be a heck of a bit more than 236.55 though… (probably about 400 AUD, if 250 Eur is correct - and about 500 for the plus model according to reviews - IF it comes to AU.)

    • Also the g8 will be a very short year away maybe it’s best to keep waiting?

      • There is a bit of a difference between waiting a couple of weeks, when something is on the verge of hitting the shelves… and waiting for the next model…

  • If G6 has NFC and anyone manages a price beat at Officeworks please post receipt, keen to buy.

    • +4

I just checked mine, and yes it does have NFC. And also face unlock (which I didn't expect)

      • Awesome. I want it as a backup phone. Cant get to office works today but might try tomorrow.

      • +2

Yes, but the face unlock is the basic version that can be fooled by a photo of your face, so I would not use it. Fingerprint lock still a safer bet. Great phone for the price though.

        • +1

Fyi, they fixed their face unlock, I was able to unlock with a pic, but not anymore!

  • Specs state: Qualcomm Snapdragon 450

  • Anyone got a officeworks price beat receipt for the G6 they can post up or PM to me? would be greatly appreciated

  • Anyone got a officeworks price beat receipt for the G6 they can post up or PM to me? would be greatly appreciated here too. I need a dual sim phone with Aus warranty, too bad there is no waterproof option.

    • No one has sent me a receipt yet, don't hold your breath

  • So have I got this right that Tobydeals G6 is a grey import from HK and if your after warranty then go whistle for it. OW has it listed at $348.00 currently. I guess I'm asking if Tobydeals is not worth dealing with.

    • +1

Having local warranty is a major benefit. Ring up officeworks and see if they will katch eglobalcentralAU, if succesful please post receipt here. Tobydeals is perfectly reliable from what I hear though, your safe to buy from them if you want to.

      • Thanks mate for the reply. Still not game to buy from Toby though, they get a shellacking from most review sites ect. But then again, being a tradie I'm lucky to get 18 months out of a ph. All I want is long battery life and , umm, bounceability…

  • A staff-member at Officeworks Russell Street (Melbourne) refused me a price beat today on the G6. He said that the model numbers must be identical.

  • It's reduced to $229 at Tobydeals' website and I managed to price match at Officework. The staff said they aren't supposedly match grey import, but he gave me favor. Good luck for those who are going to try. :)
