    From my own experience, you can book a room as a guest and benefit from the increased cashback rate and then add the booking to your hotels.com account to collect free nights. No guarantee that this works but so far I haven't had any issues with that, just make sure that you're not logged into hotels.com prior to making a booking.
    Taking that into account increases your overall savings to 17.6% saving if my math doesn't let me down.
    Edit: same goes for price matching btw. Have done that a number of times and still got my cashback.

  Beware about dodgy Cashrewards practice not paying cashrewards for Hotels.com purchases. Cashrewards does register the Hotelc.om purchase and come up with reward amount and pay due date "95 days from booking completion".

  I have been waiting on $31.xx cashrewards to be paid tomorrow, and today, on 94th day Cashrewards just removed my Hotel.com cashreward from the list and it is no longer there.
