Find Me a bargain - Penn Surf Fishing Rod - 10 to 15 Ft

I want to buy my dad a fishing rod for his bday - Can someone please help me find a surf rod for around $80 delivered or pick up ?
Must be Penn because I plan to match it with a Penn Spinfisher reel.

Thanks

All spinning reel seats are the same.

For $80, you should just look for the best you can find. Even if it says Penn, it is just OEM rebadged fibre glass rods with no brand aluminium oxide on SS rings, no brand reel seats and cheapest EVA foam grips.

For the Penn name, add $10.

Ps. If he is not a seasoned fisherman, 10 feet is much easier to cast and control vs 15 feet. Transport is another issue.

Ps2. Buy this. Get the "Penn Prevail Surf Casting 10FT 6IN 2PC 5-9KG Spin Fishing Rod". You'll get your $59 worth over one in the price range you're looking at. It will be comparing a toy to a treasured tool.

    • Thanks gave me a bit to think about. Might have to go out with a couple more times before buying anything

      • What're you catching or targetting?

        • Mostly snapper but can be decent flathead around

          • @PAOK11: Sounds like you're fishing off the pier or bank? Surf rods are overkill. 7 footers are ideal.

And if you're going to the pier, get some offcut timber, eBay the cheapest rod holder(s), get a clamp from Bunnings. You've made yourself an excellent rod holder like the ones you see on boats.

  • You can get the Penn Mariner rods at BCF. They normally sell combos with the spinfisher for around $100

if you tie 50 bic penns together you can get a pretty cheap rod.
