  • EDIT: this looked good but only good if your grabbing it in-store

JB HIFI are doing it for $577 on their online site while WOW are doing it at $568

so if your looking at grabbing one of these online then go wow. otherwise head into JB

OP… i would mention this is in-store only price in title…

    • Thanks for the update, I have no idea of the price in store when I saw it in Chatswood JB, there's no price tag there.

But if you buy it online, JB offers free shipping, I think.

    • Dymocks bookshops are selling this tab too. $579 with a free $100 ebook voucher if that's your thing…

      http://m.itwire.com/virtualisation/46915-dymocks-joins-andro…

    • Online price is now also $547 with free delivery.

    • Incorrect — walked into JB Hifi Chadstone (off Warrigal rd), ticket price is $547.
      Call (03) 9568 2811 to verify.

      • hmm misunderstood. ignore please.

  • -4

Sorry but I think $547 is not bargain. There will be so many Android tablets on sale this year, competition will be high. $399 is more like it:)

    • +11

but what is there now?… what is there now!? its no good speculating!

(nothing wrong with voicing your opinion, but its not yet fact, your post sounds like it is a fact.)

i tend to agree thinking that they will come down in price… but again not a fact…

      • +3

No good speculating? Read any iPhone/iPad post here and the android drones say wait until the iPhone5 or iPad3 now someone says the same in an android post and everyone goes banana's - ROFL

        • +3

It's really really pointless, though, unless there's something on the visible horizon. "Don't buy tech - the price is going to come down!" is the most obvious thing you can ever post in a tech discussion.

        • Exactly - thats my point - when the android fans keep hammering iPad Iphone posts with the same drivel, then what do you expect in an android post - the point being is that stupidity leads to stupidity.

How many droid types shout down Apple deals for that exact point…

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/15192

Really? Any iPhone post here drones say wait for iPhone 5?

You've actually said this a couple of times in different places on here now, what's going on?

It almost seems that you have something against non-apple products.

        • +1

I guess the difference is that you can count on yearly Apple product cycles, so if you're only a month or two out from the expected date then there is something to definite to wait for, including the necessary discounting to clear old stock.

I guess with Android, product cycles are less clear.

        • add to that that many android devices can usually be updated to the latest version of android without the need to buy new hardware!

        • Purt - You link to a 2 year old post - whats your point? - did you link to the wrong one?

Wisc - you show your ignorance with that comment - The iPad1 runs the latest software revision. And not ALL androids can run the latest software - and rightly so as NO manufacturer will support all hardware forever….

        • No it's the right link, you said read any iPhone post on Ozbargain and drones will say wait for an iPhone 5.

I did. I provided a link just so you could see that you are so wrong, would you like another one?

        • A bit silly to post a link to an iphone3, he was talking about iphone 4 with iphone 5. But I guess anything to prove a point but frankly its pointless

        • so you're speculating that he was talking about an iPhone 4?

          That's no good.

        • Ozpete, I think the difference is that everybody knows the usual "wait for iPad12/iPhone76" comments are just mild trolls, having a bit of a dig at Apple for their business practices! ;)

I suspect ttkc was actually being serious!!! :o

is this the same as the one selling in OW?

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Com…

If it is you could get them to price match and get the 5% off.

So i guess it would come down to around $520 from OW.

    • Should be, JB model number is "A500 16G", OW is "Acer ICONIA Tablet A500 16G"

    • -8

Lol i agree but some ppl like bricks just because they are android (or not Apple).

    • +5

      You forgot "magical" and "breathtaking".

    • +2

This fake Gillard is as knowledgable as the real one.

    • seriously who did we vote for?!

  • +1

People are getting this for around $500-$520, so don't be afraid to push them on price. And ignore the clueless who have no idea how different (better) this is compared to an iPad.

    • +1

      clueless=fanboys

ipad is a good product, so are android tablets, each to their own.

  • This is the Acer ICONIA that is going for 450 USD at amazon. just stating the price. 520$ is still not bad for ozzie market. I am actually in the market for an Asus transformer, any idea when that is getting released here.

    • your better off getting it imported

cheaper even including shipping. asus can only produce 10k units a month due to supply shortages so aussies will have jack all stock aswell

  • Does anyone know how this would compare to the Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 ??

  • When you say 16gb HDD, I presume it's flash based? And not a mechanical hdd?

    What's the battery life like?

    • Battery life reported at up to 14 hrs moderate to heavy usage. In my experience I'm easily getting 10, haven't really pushed it beyond that so comparable to my ipad.

  • Yes this is 16gb SSD. Also has SD slot which can take another 32gb.

For those interested in this, be aware there is a 32gb model (all are non-3g, the 3g version is yet to be released) that you can get for under $600 at Good Guys. Discussion at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1688989 confirms this and the 16gb has been able to picked up at around $520. Harvey Norman actually has the 16gb advertised on TV at the moment for $527.

    • Price matched at OW it would be $500!!

      Not bad i guess.

      • Are you able to upload a receipt showing the price?

        Thanks in advance…

  • I went to Harvey Norman yesterday and they "claimed" to have no knowledge of the $527 price. I assumed this was going to happen so I had taken a picture of the tv advert on my phone. After the sales rep went to the manager, they said they would honour it (but didnt seem happy about it) saying it was below cost. Why does every place I go to say it's below cost - JB, Good Guys, HN. Surely they all wouldn't be making a loss on this device when it is so new? Or is it just another line they feed to customers to make them think they're getting a bargain?

Anyway, glad I didnt buy it then as I saw it on the OW website last night so will try to get the 5% off.

    • +3

Harvey Norman had it in their catalogue for $730 a couple of weeks ago for the 32gb. I pointed out the Acer website had it as $678 rrp and they looked it up said it was a mistake. Next day there is an ad on TV for $527 16gb model so I rang and the 32gb is now down to RRP. The floor staff have no idea, the one I spoke to even told me Honeycomb referred to the colour of the device!!!

      • Rofl. There has to be some limits to how little these drones know. Yeah they often don't budge on prices. The Honeycomb reference to color was hilarious, especially since many other devices are getting Honeycomb too. They must be severely colour blind or mind controlled if they can't tell the difference between black and honeycomb. (I'm colorblind and even I'm 100% certain I can tell the difference :P)

    • Could you possibly post the photo of that? I haven't seen the ad…. would be great to get OW to price match

      • Sorry, its a TV ad not a print ad.

        • yeah i know… but tfb said he took a picture of the tv advert…

    • Hey tfb, any possibility of uploading the picture of the tv advert. Cheers in advance…

    • Hey tfb, any possibility of uploading the picture of the tv advert. Cheers in advance…

      • I went to office works to price match harvey norman but when they called to confirm $527, the dipshit said it was a weekend special - obviously trying to protect his commission. Of course office works aren't going to care and said no to price match. Ended up getting 5% off the jb price - came to $517 in the end. Office works then dropped their price to match jb at $547.

        • I can still upload the pic if you want it…just let me know the best way to do it

        • which dipshit — OW's or HN's?

        • Sorry, to clarify, it was the Harvey Norman salesman that said it was a weekend special only

  • Goodguys in Bayswater will do the 32GB model for $596 - just mention that you read online that their store in QLD have done it for this price. Don't bother about going to the Nunawading store as they denied being able to match the price even though they've actually sold them for $596 too.

I haf a play with this at chaddie today, very nice. I would import the Asus transformer though, if I could, they keep selling out the moment anyone gets stock. Transformer is only us$399. +ship.

    • Yeh I was looking to the transformer too, till I realized that it didn't have 3G yet :( the main tablet also doesnt have USB slots do they, I thought that they were all on the keyboard dock thingy. Also would you know if the warranty is USA specific only or worldwide?

      • +1

Asus Warranty is supposed to be worldwide.

Yes that is the main difference… acer has the usb host and full size sd on the tablet, whereas transformer has those on the keyboard dock, but acer has no keyboard dock. Also transformer has IPS lcd and is cheaper.

They are bothe great choices. Just comes down to what priorities you have personally. Either way the customer wins. Better than having to choose black or white lol.

  • It's a pity that the 3G/4G variants aren't out yet. I know that there are mifi to use, but their battery only last 4hrs-ish from what I've read. Are most of you guys who have purchased it really only using it over wifi? Just wanted some opinions, how are you guys connecting this to the net?

    • I use it mostly at home or work, and I have wi-fi at both. Other than this it would be when I am at client's places, but the apps I need aren't all available yet so I've still been using Ipad for this. I would use the iphones personal hotspot connection in this case.

I don't carry it around everywhere or feel the need to pull it out to surf the net whenever I'm out, I have an iphone for that if needed. So the extra cost of a 3g device, the data plan, and the weight, just doesn't appeal to me.

    • I've just started using my mobile to provide internet access via wifi tethering so it allows me to avoid having a separate 'mifi/pocket wifi' device and data plan. I'm glad I didn't wait and buy a 3G enabled tablet as it would be annoying having to pay for a separate data plan.

  • Well, I have to say it looks a bit ugly, compared to iPad, Xoom and upcoming Galaxy Tab 2. Thanks for the share anyway.

    • I agree… I'm waiting for the SS G T 8.9" 3G
      :)

  • Scorptec have both sizes. $559 & $639. Code: MDAY1
