Anaconda have stock in store and had them for $80 last week when I was starting to research them but are back to $100 today. I asked in store if they would price match SCA, which they did, but also gave a further 10% off which I didn't expect. So I paid $71.10.

Hayman Reese 2500kg and 3500kg secure kits suit 50mm towbar recievers so make sure yours isnt 40mm.

I needed a towbar hitch and ball for a car I bought which already had a towbar fitted. The stock towball tongue to suit my setup is around $125 alone. This kit also contains the ball ($15) and a secure pin lock mechanism ($30+)

  • Got one. Thanks OP. Been waiting on these kits to come down and it was free postage as well. Some a-hole stole my last one and at least this one comes with a lockable pin.

    • Make sure you put some grease on the locking pin, otherwise might be a bit hard taking the pin out again.

Always grease up my pin before pushing it in…

  • I'm a bit confused.
Shouldn't all towbar receivers originally come with a hitch? Mine did.
Why would you want to buy another one?

Unless someone stole yours…. but why would someone steal a towball hitch, if all towbar receivers originally come with one….

<edit> I know other types of hitches are available… I'm just talking about conventional towball types.

    • Why would you want to buy another one?

      Because…

Some a-hole stole my last one

They have had theirs stolen or the take it out and forget where they put it. Bought a car without it. It fell out, got bent or damaged… etc.

Also good if you leave a bike rack on one or similar

    • I like to have a different towball receiver for each day of the week, and a special one for Christmas and public holidays.

    • my guess was the previous owner of my car didn't bring it when they traded the car in. Or perhaps someone at the dealer took it off, either for liability / safety reasons, to prevent it being stolen in the yard, or to either use or sell privately.

I checked at a wreckers for a second hand one. Not one suitable in a yard with 1400+ cars, forty or so the same model as mine. Several pictures on the yards web site showed them when the cars arrived on site. Seems like lots of people want them. To be fair several cars at the wreckers were also missing the full towbar.

    • I have 2 trailers - one (off road high clearance camper) needs the hitch facing up, while other needs it facing down. Bit of a pain to swap the towball around when you flip the hitch, so have 2 of them. FYI not all hitches have the same ball weight rating when flipped. The Toyota LC ones do, IIRC the HRs do as well.

  • Is it possible to swap over a "tongue" (Swan neck?) type towbar (Class 2 - standard duty, I assume) to one of these?

Car is not probably not rated for 3500kg but I like the convenience/versatility of the hitch.
