[Switch] 50% off Yooka-Laylee $30 (Was $60) @ Nintendo eShop

100

Yooka-Laylee for Switch is now $30 (50% off) on the Nintendo eShop. As far as I'm aware this is the cheapest it has been for Nintendo Switch since release. Granted, its usual $60 RRP is fairly over-priced but considering the game did not get a physical release (except an even more expensive limited edition through 'Limited Run'), this may be a good time to buy.

This game was originally a Kickstarter project set up by many of the former 'Rare' developers who created platforming classics like Banjo-Kazooie back in the N64 era and this game is seen as it's spiritual successor. Could be a good buy if you're after some old school platforming fun.

That review is outdated and does not really reflect the Switch version. The game hss changed in a number of ways since the original release on PS4 and XB1

The game is pretty fun on Switch. Not perfect. But definitely not as bad as the early reviews on other platforms suggest.

The link is to the Nintendo UK shop site because Australia does not have its own web browser version of the eShop, but if you sign in with your Aussie account then you will see prices in Australian dollars.

    • Well there you go, link updated. Thanks!

  • It is a very solid game - but simply didn't live up to the greatness of Banjo Kazooie, so many were disappointed.
While it's not a brilliant game, it certainly deserves some attention.

Just get rare Replay if you have an Xbox. Banjo 1, 2 and nuts and bolts are much better. For $30 this is still too much. $15 would be a buying point for me.

    • Have you played Yooka or are you just guaging your opinion based on early critic scores?

  • I've been holding off a long time for this game, and finally took the plunge. It feels at home on a Nintendo console, and it's very, very similar to the Banjo-Kazooie experience that I've missed for years. I've played it only for a few hours, but for the first time in a long, long time, I've gone to bed wondering when my next chance is gonna be to play it.

For $30 I think it's definitely worth a pick up ($28. something if you include the gold coins you get from the eshop) You're getting a new, original game and you're also supporting the company behind BK/YL which increases the chance for more games in the future.
