Mod also replied that it’s not a dupe, so I stand corrected.

Thanks OP for posting, it is a great deal for those that actually don’t want ES bulbs and need BS, which incidentally is also crazy cheap.

    +1 for you :)

  • Nice

  • Is it better buying one of these and the lights on sale? Or the starter kit.

    • As opposed to a kit?

      Depends which kit…

      For example Colour Ambiance kit is $139 vs $52 x 3 Bulbs + $38 x 1 bridge = $194 so better to get kit

It depends if you have edison or bayonet holders. If the former, the kits are usually good value, assuming they have the combination of bulbs that you want. If you have bayonets, you will have to buy individual items*

*you could get some cheap bulb holder converters online, but at these prices I reckon just get the correct bulb.

  • I was looking at getting one of these to use the Philips Light Switches to control my LifX bulbs, but probably won't bother.

    • LIFX has a sort of pseudo Apple Kit built into the app, but it doesn’t really work well. I wish I got philips hue or waited for the new LIFX with HomeKit built in.

      • I have 3 of the new ones with HomeKit built in and one old one using HomeBridge, and they all talk to Apple Home perfectly. never had an issue.
I just like the idea of having physical buttons to turn them on and off instead of using the normal switches which when off, mean that they are unable to be turned on again by HomeKit.

        • I’d be happy with a wireless dimmer knob. I’m going to wait a while before buying again, until there are features my household can actually be bothered using. No one could be bothered with the LIFX app, we didn’t have a spare MAC for homebridge, and the app solution has the problem of everyone in the house having their own Apple ID, if it doesn’t work once then people won’t try it again.

          • @AustriaBargain: We run HomeBridge on a Raspberry Pi ($30 or so), but mostly use the Google Home Mini's around the apartment to control them.

  • do i need one of these for each room? as i already have one in the study but looking to add more lights throughout the house.

    • I may be very much mistaken but I believe ZigBee creates a mesh, meaning you only need 1 hub at any point, everything else connects to it (or to another zigbee device and eventually through the mesh to the hub).

  • I have one that control 3 bulbs, how do I know if I need another bridge? Will 1 cover the whole house normally? Double storey house. 230sqm internal.

    • I read today that you should only need 1 as the bulbs act as a relay so as long as 2 bulbs can see each other it doesnt matter how far away the bridge is

      • Ok thanks. In what case do you need more than 1 bulb? If you have too many bulbs?

    • The tips that the hub gives you makes it seem like all signals is sent via your home wifi, so by that it seems like no doesn't matter where your hub is, provided theres wifi coverage the devices will work.

Mine is under the staircase and has no issues with seeing devices from the furthest end of the house on the 2nd level.

  • The cart final step is showing $85.00 to me.

  • Back to $85

  • +2

Shows $38 for me (Prime) and also when added to the cart.
I’ve already bought one a while ago, but that shouldn’t impact the price it shows me now.

    • Can confirm it is still available to order at $38. Just ordered one now.

    • Confirmed, still working with prime

  • All these Philips Hue deals seem to be fluctuating in price a bit as they restock. You can see from camelcamelcamel that it returned to $85, then dropped to $38 again.

Just did a comparison of kits vs individual prices

Item Individual Cost Kit - Colour Ambiance Kit - White Ambiance Kit - White Basic Kit - Basic White with Dimmer
    White Basic $13.90 - - $15.16 $13.33
    White Ambiance $26.90 - $22.75 - -
    Colour Ambiance $52.00 $37.26 - - -
    Bridge $38.00 $27.23 $32.14 $44.67 -
    Switch $22.90 - $19.37 - $23.67
    Total - $139 $97 $75 $37

(uses individual cost to determine proportion of kit cost to allocate depending on contents of kit)

  • its $99

    • -3

      its $99

      What is?

      • The bridge

        • -3

          That's a bridge too far isn't it?

          • @moo: So where is it $38?

            • @asa79: It was $38 directly from Amazon but it appears they have either sold out or removed the listing. The $99 price is Mighty Ape.

  • Showing $110 for me now with prime :'(
