    This is Hardly Normal

  • Can we ever buy the app store one 2 for 40?

    That would be a bargain.

    • iTunes cards can be used for App Stores. The cards are not limited to music.

  • I've noticed BIG W & Harvey Norman never advertise these deals in-store. Thanks for posting, got the deal.

  • just picked up 2 of these from DJs using the harvey norman flyer for price match.

    • Hi, Where do you get the harvey norman flyer? Thanks

I must have something wrong here…

Apple takes a 30% cut of app store sales.

You buy $60 of iTunes credit for $40.

After buying $60 worth of apps, apple has paid a total of $42 to developers.

So make $60 worth of in-app purchases from one of your own apps and you've gained $2, repeat 1,000,000 times.

I'm guessing it's not actually 30% for the AU app store, but I can't confirm this.

    • Holy s**t, loophole ftw?

If that is confirmed, then I can see Apple having some high fees in the not too distant future. My guess is there's some policy preventing you from buying your own apps or something to that effect.

      • So my "Friend" can buy my apps on his iPhone…

The problem is you need to get your app approved by apple, and you need to pay to join their developer program ($100/year I think).

You might end up paying the $10 0and not getting your app approved, but if you already have an app then you could use this loophole, assuming the fees are actually 30% for the AU store.

    • I am guessing Apple pay developers in USD, then the foreign exchange rate is probably enough to cover the discount. I just cannot imagine Apple "share" the foreign exchange profits with the developers.

That's not forget we pay 20% more for each app. - and that's based on a 1:1 conversion. After factoring the 20% extra we paid to Apple, there is at least $5 AUD left for Apple with the discount - again that's using 1:1 conversion.

      • Thats exactly the thing I was worried about, I figured the actual percentage would be higher after they exchange it to USD. Wonder if someone can confirm if it's true or not.

    • repeat 1,000,000 times.

yeah … ok. open 1 million accounts and repeat buy your own app 1 million times.
      good luck. lol

      • You only need 1 account, in-app purchases can be purchased multiple times.

(Well 2 accounts, your normal account and an account to buy your stuff from)

        • If you get paid by USD, you will still be worse off. Unless Apple "share" the foreign exchange profit with you - which I doubt. I hope I am wrong.

        • so you're saying apple charges us $1.19 and treats it as $0.99USD giving the developer $0.70, so this wouldn't work.

        • That's what I think. You paid $1.19 AUD to Apple to buy the app. The commission is calculated based on the US app store price ($0.99 USD -> so approx. $0.30 USD to Apple, and $0.70 USD to the developer)… Now, don't forget to convert $0.70 USD to AUD…

To get money, it is best to develop cool apps. so people actually just buy the apps. willingly.

  • It was a big hassle convincing Brisbane city HN staff to honor it, but eventually they did.

    • HN is a franchise. The owner of each store can decide whether they want to honour the price match/price beat deals. It is hard to have some HN stores to even price match other HN stores. HN will not price match/beat MSY prices.

Refund must be done at the store you purchased the item from.

This is a very good deal.. if you can get it at your local HN store.

      • I've been able to return a product at a different HN to the one I purchased it from. Maybe it depends on the product?

        • When I tried to get a refund last time, I was told:
          - Return for warranty / repair - Can send it to a different HN.
          - Return for full refund (due to product being faulty) - No, must be the original store.

  • is this available online?

    • Dunno. But the Melbourne QV store has lots of iTunes cards. They have plenty of $30 ones.
Perhaps go to OfficeWorks and ask for a price match/beat.

      • i can also confirm Melbourne QV store has lots of $30 cards, and they have a stack of catalogues containing this deal too. Got 4 cards today! Great deal.

  • I just got cards for $ 16 each from HN Chadstone by combining their 20% off with these cards.

    Thats about 50% off.

went to office works first, but they did not honor it, so ended up going to HN and got an excellent deal.

    I am very happy!!
