SA Power Networks Announces Price Increases

Just heard on Radio National news that the 100% foreign owned SA Power Networks, the scam artists that provided SA with ongoing blackouts during the highest prices in the world, has announced yet another price increase for June that will add $40 to the average yearly residential bill and $120 to small business.

These figures are what the scam artists claim to their victims so highly suspect, probably higher in reality.

Apparently businesses packing up and leaving the state just isn't happening fast enough for the fools that voted for the Liberal Party. Because costs are going up even higher so that two 100% foreign owned businesses can benefit while the state and it's inhabitants rot and lose significant amounts of wealth.

The ACCC already found that large enterprises are not viable in it's 2018 report so good luck small businesses. I notice the Liberal Party is running ads pretending it supports small businesses as well as pretending it lowers electricity prices.

The Liberal Party marketing that I recieved prior to the recent election appeared to be aimed at five year olds. It claimed that power prices would be reduced by 15% (with an asterix and no mention of rates anywhere) despite the Liberal Party never lowering electricity prices during the entire history of privatisation.

But don't they have a large percentage of renewable energy, so they got that going for them…

My electricity prices have actually gone up, and they said prices would go down.
To top it all off the price increases weren't to build renewable energy, we got nothing out of it.

    Interesting read here.
"Hazelwood should not have had such a large impact on the market. It was about 5 per cent of the national coal generation market, it was not a big deal. It should have been handled easily.

It meant that by the end of 2018, AGL's net profit was $1.6 billion, 194 per cent higher than the previous year.

Origin Energy posted a $218 million profit in 2018 while Energy Australia, owned by the Hong Kong-based CLP Group, made a profit of $HK3.30 billion ($593 million).

"So if I buy an apple for $1 and sell it to you for $10, I've ripped you off but that's not against the law," he said.

"I think the failure is so significant that it justifies a serious rethink, a no-holds-barred serious, independent rethink of this electricity market."

"It's certainly contrary to the policy intent of a market where competition is meant to bring about better outcomes for the customers."

There's also a very interesting bar graph on AGL's net profits.

You have got to be joking. The state government was Labor for almost two decades prior to the election in March 2018. Also power prices rose 20% on average the last year Labor were in power.

    So biased much?

Perfect timing after the Fed Budget :D

  • Didn't know SA had electricity in the first place.

    • Of course we do! They are big stationary power banks like zmi's that people sometimes forget to go interstate and charge for us and adding too many usb fans drains the system quickly….. :P
