Buying New SIM Every Month but Some Months Not: Will It Work?

Got 2 elderly relatives on a $18 1gb or 2gb plan
One barely uses the internet, one is starting to use a bit more with my encouragement

However they go overseas a few times a year ranging up to 2 months

$18 for 1 to 2gb is very expensive

Question: if i changed their sim every month to take advantage of the $9 or $10 specials that have 15gb or so .
And some months when they go overseas just dont renew it until they come back. Will this work?

E.g. do the 1 month starter packs after they expire, stop receiving calls?

Thanks everyone

Maybe the 1 year Boost charge for $150 would be the best?
Unlimited calls and text and 80Gb for the year, works out to be $12.50 a month and saves all the stuffing around getting new number/SIM and activating this and that, if they are frequently going overseas, $12.50 a month should be somewhat affordable?

    • thats a great idea,

month to month is a lot of stuffing around, I was prepared to do it for them ,but the less the better

do you know if those to month to month after expiry, just die off, or are they active for a while?

    I'd go aldi mobile.

    $95 for 24GB data, expires after a year ($8/mo for 2GB)

or include unlimited calls for $15/mo (2GB/mo + rollover)

  • If they are not interested all that much in the internet then just get them onto Amaysim pay as you go…

Just switch off data on their phones.

  • With Amaysim or Vodafone prepaid, you can keep your phone numbers for about one year without credits (no recharge), only incoming activities of course. I am pretty sure at this time. Their terms may change later.

You have to be an organised person to manage these things, otherwise phone numbers may be lost. May not suitable for elders.

  • is there a general rule of how long the sim stays active for receiving calls after the month has passsed?

Do your own research. Telco certainly does not like people to stretch the expiry date and play on it. The two above I mentioned are the most lenient in terms of this. Tight telco like Kogan only allows 20 days for incoming activities after credits expire.
