Road Bike

Hey guys,

Been doing a bit of research into Bikes and have decided I want a road bike. I've been eyeing off them for a while now and was actually ready to purchase one (however they didn't have my size - maybe that was a good thing). Anyway so after a bit more research I'm looking to spend around $500 and they did in fact have one before for around that price however I wasn't ready to jump the gun then. I am now ready, they don't have bikes around my price range so I'm looking for alternatives. Can anyone recommend me some places I can try (online or otherwise).

I'm willing to spend more provided it's justified. At the moment I'm after something cheap to see if it really is something I want to invest in further. If say I can get a Giant for an ub3r deal, I'm happy to do it.

Suggestions anyone?

Thanks

    • That's pretty decent..
Not going to find much better!

  • First up, there's no point in my opinion buying a $200 K-Mart bike to see if you'll enjoy cycling..

A proper, new road bike (with drop-bars) is going to cost you at ~$800 for the lowest of low brand name models. Bike shops will have a flat bar road bike in that $500 range, but once again, you're at the lowest of low end.

Your $$ would be far better spent in the used market..
Buy a decent quality secondhand bike that fits your body size to get a true feel for what a nice ($1500+) bike could offer you in the future.
http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/ is a great place to look for good used bikes..
ebay and gumtree are other obvious places to start.
Go for a test ride too.. bike frame sizes and geometry's vary from brand to brand, particularly along the top tube.

If you absoluetly NEED to buy new, keep your eye out on Cell Bikes, they have some decent sales and they have offered their cheapest, house-branded, drop bar road bike at around $500 (possibly $599) when clearing out old stock in the past..
(although having now looked, it may be discontinued, Cell S2200)
Here's a flat bar version from their Clearance section.

  • Thanks for the reply guys. I'm definantly after a drop bar road bike. Not particularly interested in flat bar or fixed gear roadies. I would consider the Fuji if they had stores in NSW. Looks like I just have to wait for Cell to have another decent sale.
