Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 4GB/64GB (RED) - AU $185.25 Delivered @ TobyDeals

230

If you can get beyond the RED it's a sharp price for the Redmi Note 5 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of Storage.

Update: Reply from TobyDeals
This is the Global Version with Google Play

Also when I tried to add the phone in my cart I could get a folding case for free.
Shipping time isn't too bad at 6-8 Working Days

Also B28 and NFC lovers look elsewhere - This isn't the phone you're looking for, move along, move along.

  • Is this a good price? Whats the catch?

  • i would get the redmi 7 on the site for similar price

Looks like that Redmi 7 has a slower processor, 3GB of RAM and doesn't have a FHD Screen.

Also, this is the model with the snapdragon 636, which means it is the Dual-AI version (with the better camera). Nice price, thanks OP.

The AI version has a 20MP front facing camera.

      • Yeah, nah, it doesn't.

        • My bad, you are correct.

          The RN5 pro has 20mp

          The RN5 AI has 13MP

  • Also the note about "Please note that unlocking the bootloader or rooting the device will void the warranty" on the website is puzzling - the previous note5 units with global rom I purchased all had unlocked bootloaders. I assume this means this phone may be chinese rom?

    • All manufacturers that I've seen claim that warranty is void if you unlock the bootloader. Xiaomi, you have to apply for 'permission' to unlock the bootloader, then use their tool to do it. Its pretty annoying really, but it lets them make a note that you chose to ditch your warranty I suppose.

When I unlocked my Redmi Note 4, the wait for 'permission' was only about a day, now I see people complaining that it can take a week or more. I'm in the process of unlocking my Mi Mix 2S, and the process seems a little different, I'm not sure if they already have my account set to 'allowed', but I have to add the device to the account and hit a button in the Mi Unlock Status part of developer settings. Then wait 72 hours before using the miflash_unlock tool. I tried using the next day, and it told me to wait 56 hours. So there's a timer on the account for some reason.

The reason I want to unlock and root my phone is that I don't trust xiaomi. The thing is calling home constantly. I'm installing lineageOS.

  • Does Not say if it is a Global Version.
If so it is a good deal if it has a Global ROM and not a Global version it is the CN version stay away.
    Maybe email them and ask

Red is good as Red is faster.

  • Does anyone know if these Chinese phones still come with bloatware? When tiny deal was big years ago I purchased a few and I and was pleased with it, only bloatware and popup advertisements while on the home screen was an issue.

    • Aren't all phones made in china these days? Only ads i get on mine are from apps.

    • If it's the Chinese ROM you'll get annoying Chinese apps clogging the screen, but no such problem if it's the global ROM. In any case, I've found it simple to burn a new ROM to a Xiaomi phone.

  • During the 20% return from shopback recently I got this phone for about $190 delivered from AliExpress. Global rom. Just unboxed so still getting used to it. Shopback anniversary soon so maybe another deal soon.

  • I got the umidigi F1 for about $212 after cash back during the recent AliExpress sales. Highly recommend the F1 if you can grab it at that price
