Is this a recharge or a prepaid sim pack?

    • +14

It says $2 sim card + $150 recharge need to be purchased together to qualified for $135.

      • +3

Where does it say that? Have a $2 Boost sim I need to pick up from the post office, was planning on getting the $150 plan but keen to save $15 (or $13) this way.

Will I need to buy another $2 Boost sim?

      • +1

Just bought 2X $2 sim from Boost ready to activate end of this month for 2 numbers, now need to buy extra 2X $2 again, well still saving me $13 each … Hope we can just pay $135 for the recharge voucher and skip the $2 sim in 3 days time

        • +11

Just look at it this way,….the $2 sim is FREE when you buy the $150 re-charge that's on special for $135 ( but you need to scan a $2 sim as well as pick a $150 Boost 365 day re-charge ).

Hope that makes a bit of common sense lol.

          • @ozhunter68: Hangon, someone up there saying you need to buy a $2 sim, wonder if i can bring my $2 to coles and ask them to scan that instead.

            • +3

@kaikor: Why make life so hard lol.

Answer to your question is NO. You can NOT Re-Scan a Sim Card/Sim Pack that has already been scanned and purchased, the system won't allow it!

P.S. Are you trying to save some $,…..or save the earth lol.

              • +4

@ozhunter68: I guess true ozbargain spirit, every dollar that can save counts, haha!

          • @ozhunter68: Do you know if you're able to port numbers via this method?

            • +1

@Wool: You'll be able to port your number when you activate.

              • @gunslinger: Perfect, thanks

              • +2

@gunslinger: Unless it is Telstra to Boost, then you’ll need a blank SIM instead (have to call Boost to get one, it’s free though).

      • Does anyone know if unused data is rolledover for 12 months plan? The fine print in the Terms & Conditions on the Boost Website it is says,

"Rollover unused data to use within your next recharge on all 28 day expiry plans".

However it is silent on 6 months and 12 months.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks

    • +1

My Boost recharge is showing expiry of 17/1/2021

    • Went to first store which has 5 $2 sim left, but they didn't know how to process the recharge. Second store knew exactly what to do, so successfully bought. Recharge expiry is 17/01/2021.

      • +1

Make sure photocopy or take a photo, as the receipts print will fade out in few weeks, and you will lose voucher code

        • The ink they use seems to last more than a few weeks.Took a photo just to be safe.Thanks.

  • +23

Anyone have an idea the timeframe these need to be activated by?

    • +1

Second this! Can someone shed some light?

    • I need to know too!

    • +12

I bought a $300 voucher from Woolworths on 11/04/2019 and it expires 17/01/2020, so looks like a 40 week expiry from date of purchase. If anyone else has any vouchers, we could confirm this.

      • +5

Mine was $300, with later month 2020 expiry

    • -6

By law, giftcards currently have a 3 year expiratory date in NSW.

    • +1

I will say 6 or 12 months. These are not classified as gift cards…

      • Yeah I was wondering that too. A previous deal someone posted that Boost rep stated 6 month expiry

    • 12 months from purchase date

    • +2

Expiry on SIM was 27 Aug 2020, Voucher 17/01/2021. I ported my number from ALDI, took about 5 minutes all up. Staff member warned me to photograph docket before it faded + don't put in your pocket etc as warmth affects them.

    • +4

Plans on using this as the primary, then use the various belong/amay etc deals for extra data on a secondary.

    • +20

      speak for yourself mate!

    • +18

Not for those that only need < 7Gb per month.

      • +5

        Correct jv

        • +20

I knew year 7 maths would come in useful one day… Didn't think it would take this long though…

          • @jv: 😂😂😂

          • @jv: year 7? really or you just picked a number.
This is taught in year 2 or 3 in Asia

            • +1

@firedolphin: Number weren’t invented until then.

            • +4

@firedolphin: Interesting, I didn't know 'Asia' has a standardized curriculum across the entire continent

This is probably a bit above what you'd expect from a year 2-3 student here though. At that point they're probably only introducing multiplication/division and expected to know it on a basic level.

This problem is a bit more abstract than just multiplication/division. It's a worded problem where you need to equate 365 days to a year, to 12 months - then to divide 80 by 12, and to make the connection that the answer is the upper limit.

    • +2

I guess restraint is an unfamiliar concept…???

    • +1

Crazy idea, buy something with enough date for you.

      • +5

        Whoa, steady on.

    • +6

Buy the $300 recharge for 240GB data then. Good luck finding more than 7GB/mth for $11/mth though

      • I'm getting 10GB/mnth for $16 with boost… But that isn't discounted…

  • +2

Is the roaming $5 add on needed to receive texts while overseas?

    • +1

      Nope

      • +1

Why? I thought $5 add-on work on this package to receive international roaming..

        • +16

No, this is required to make/answer phone calls and send texts. Receiving texts is free so no add on required. I am in NZ with Boost right now and can confirm this

          • +2

@realfancyman: Haha,…I like the way you think and communicate, sounds like your as smart as what your photo looks :-)

            • +1

              @ozhunter68: Cheers ozhunter!

              • +1

@realfancyman: By the way, I travelled to every state of Australia by the age of 21 ( except for Tasmania ),..and now years later on still have not been to both Tasmania nor New Zealand ( shame on me ), but really Keen to go to both. Enjoying some nice Sav Blanc. and Snowy Mountains lol.

    • This is what I liked about Kogan. I am abroad and can confirm that I receive texts without activating roaming on my Kogan.

  • +5

    Incredible deal

  • Currently if you are on a 28 days prepaid, can you use this?

    • +2

Since you are getting the recharge and the SIM seperate you can just activate the recharge on your current SIM and it should change you onto this new plan when activated.

    • +1

You can recharge onto any other plan with boost… You'll lose any benefits you might have on your current plan though, eg. data rollover.

      • +1

I recharged from the $30/mo to the $100/6mo and I got roll-over data for the current month, so I should then have 60GB for the remaining 5 months. Will be interesting to see if they make changes to them before the next recharge comes around.

Edit: but it was an instant change if that's what you were referring to.

        • How does this work? Say I am on the $30/mo plan and want the $100/6mo, do I just top up $100 and I will be automatically changed to the $100/6mo?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: I was on auto recharge. I cancelled the auto recharge and then on my expiry day I did a recharge selecting the $100/6mo from the options. Seemed easy enough to do. No more auto recharge for now though which is fine, as I am just testing to see how much data I'll use.

  • +8

Just few days back I activated this for $150.00, now $135. I wasted $15.00 shy:(

    • +3

Just startup another account and run them in parallel… Twice the bandwidth!!!

      • Twice the data anyway..

Unless you intend to have 1 phone per eye and sharp reflexes..

        • Multiplexing ?

  • Nice, been looking at the Boost plans/offers. Thanks OP

  • Nice. think of making the move now !

  • +12

Also buy 5% Coles giftcards to make it sweeter from the likes of Suncorp.

  • +4

Any offers on the $300 offer?

  • +1

365 plans give you 80gb over 365 days right? Not 80gb every month?

    • +10

correct, but you can use it all in on month if you like.

      • Ah right gotcha, cheers. I only use about 5gb a month so this should be perfect. I guess I can always recharge before the 365 days is up if I do end up burning through it early

        • +2

Or,…if you use a dual sim phone/have two phones you could just get cheap sims for data until the expiry date.

          • @ozhunter68: Which data plan would you recommend for people with dual sims?

            • @videoman: Any two that add up to as little $$$ for the best possible data/reception/service for you.

            • @videoman: This offer from Kogan mobile is almost always on throughout the year. You could keep cycling a Kogan SIM for data use on your dual SIM phone.

              40GB / 30 days / $4.90 / new customers only - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/394895

    • +1

It gives you 80gb to use over 365 days.

      • +1

Disabled again? 25mins after this comment?

        • Ghost account of banned user.

    • +1

      Correct.

      80GB for a YEAR.

80GB a month would be an insanely good deal and blow all the competition away by miles.

      • Haha yeah good point. We might get there soon though. I wonder how telcos will start adding value to plans to hook more people to expensive options. Free overseas roaming? would be awesome.

        • Free overseas roaming?

That's never going to happen… The overseas carrier costs are out of their control.

      • +3

80GB a month would be an insanely good deal

It would also be completely overkill for most people.

        • +3

Unless you really only do a bit of email & surfing, where you could use your mobile as a hotspot at home & disconnect home NBN. That'd save $50- 100 month.

      • +2

You never know, when once day prepaid competition become a big war, we might ended up free upgrade to 80gb/mth !!!

  • Anyone recommend a way to limit the data, so it isn't inadvertently used up before a year?

Ie, on Android, is there a way to limit data each month to 6.5GB?
