Looks like you can get 2 x Echo Dots for $79 also. $20 for an extra one isn't too bad either.

  • Cheers, got a couple of echo dots.

Isn't the Echo Show normally $299? It doesn't seem much of a deal.

In fact you can get it at JB Hifi with the Philips bulb for the same price so no deal here for the Show. Good deal for the Dots.

      No, its normally $349.00

YouTube now works on these devices now as per news.

      Not on the Echo Show:

Additionally, while the streaming battle is mostly over, it’s important to note that Google and Amazon’s agreement does not include adding support for YouTube back to the Echo Show. That means Echo Show owners will have to continue relying on the previous workaround when they want to watch YouTube videos, which involves using the Show’s built-in web browser to access the desktop version of YouTube.

  • I read an article on cnn that said Amazon staff can listen in to conversations echo owners have.

I replied elsewhere on Ozbargain about this.

From every thing I can figure this is only the same as any other company that uses any kind of voice recognition service; to improve the service they will review times when a user had to repeat themselves for instance.

Any company that has those crappy "say what you are after" phone services will employee exactly this. Google will be doing this. This is nothing new or surprising.

That's just media sensationalism. They were referring to Amazon training their AI with anonymized snippets which everyone does. Amazon staff can't just type in someone's email address and listen to all their recordings.

But that's boring - nobody would click on an article that said that. They had to find some way to spin it to make it more attractive for people to click on so they get more ad revenue. So they just sensationalize it with misleading headlines.
