Cheapest Way to Achieve Xbox One X into Two Rooms

Hello,

Looking to run my Xbox in my bedroom on my X9000E, and into another room on my TK800 projector. Looking to do it for as cheap as possible without compromising (too much) on quality.

I'm going to need to use HDMI 2.0 cabling, for 4K 60hz 12 bit colour. I'm also going to need to run the cable along the skirting board in the corridor, with no modifications to the house. It'll be going through over the gap in the door, hence the need for it to be flat.

I think I'll need around a 25m flat HDMI 2.0 cable. The only cables I can find for this spec are exceedingly expensive.

I'm also going to need a HDMI2.0 splitter. If flat hdmi cables of this length are indeed this expensive,
I guess it would be possible to run 2x ~15m HDMI cables, and then an additional long cable from the Xbox. So in this situation I'd need a splitter that is ideally powerless, and small enough to sit on the skirting board.

I've also already got a 30m flat CAT6 ethernet cable running along this skirting board. I know there are ways to get HDMI over ethernet - but I'm not sure if it's capable of the same quality as HDMI 2.0. Also seems like a pretty expensive solution

I'm racking my brains for answers on how to set it up nicely, but it ends up getting to the point where I might as well just buy another Xbox. Is this potentially going to be my best option?

Sorry - I know this post is a little all over the place, so if you need any clarification let me know. A bit lost on what the best option is. Thanks for your help!!

  • I do this to my projector using Dual Cat 6 cable with Passive HDMI adapters. But my run is only about 10m.
I believe at some length you get sparklies using Passive adapters.
Also, the Cat6 cables are dedicated to HDMI, you can't use them for Ethernet at the same time.

If you need to go Active adapters, then I think you're back into buying a second xbox territory.

Is there a reason you can't go through the roofspace to reduce your cable length to the PJ?

    • I don't own the house unfortunately :(

At one stage, I did consider placing my Xbox in the middle of the corridor, to reduce the run on either side to about 10-15m, however as corridor is less than a meter wide, not sure if it would be ideal. But I wonder if that could solve the problem at all.

      • Looking around, the limit on the Passive adapters appears to be 1080p @ 25m with good quality cable.

Outside of rolling a round long HDMI cable down the corridor when you want to play/watch your Projector I think a second xbox is your best bet.
Long HDMI cables are expensive cause they need to be higher quality cable in the first place and because they're low demand, Long and Flat cables are ridiculously so!

How would you use the controllers if the xbox is in another room ?

Have you thought of using the xbox and windows 10 streaming app ?
all you will need is a laptop or a pc which if you have a TV in your room , im guessing you have a pc in there aswell. https://support.xbox.com/en-AU/games/game-setup/how-to-use-g…

I think though overall the best option would be grab a second box , but not necessarily an Xbox one X
you can game share that way also .

Will you play games on the TV and projector? Perhaps just game mainly on the TV and buy a cheap One S for the projector?

  • Yeah like Shorty, I would highly suggest you wait for a good One S bundle, sell all the games and just keep the console which usually ends up being 150 ish.

Or perhaps look for a second and one for 100.

You will probably run into controller issues, and that is if all the cabling etc works out and doesn't cause any distortion or lag with picture.

I wouldn't be worrying about how to get your HDMI cabling in, that's the easy part. The harder part is how you intend to use your controllers up to 25m away from the Xbox, the range for Bluetooth isn't that great and even if you can get signal, the latency and interference would make your gaming experience a pretty poor one.

Prices for the Xbox One X on the used market have been falling pretty drastically and I've seen them on eBay going for under $400. I'd say that's the least hassle way of getting everything to work nicely. Another option would be to just get a One S for your projector if you're not using that much, as suggested by some others.

Maybe another option, is to make XBox One the portable one.

Just have separate a power cord and HDMI cable setup in each room and its plug and play.

OP could just carry it without the case.

Will all this stuffing around just to save a little cash rather than another unit.

It's best to get another unit second hand off Gumtree or Cashies and save yourself all the headaches.

    Cheers
