Needed new calibration hardware for my two monitors because the old Spyder3 died (or didn't like a Win10 upgrade).

This code saved me $28.20 (but added $12 delivery). It's $282 delivered from their own website and the other Oz sites are around $290 - $295.

I am scanning hundreds of old colour negatives at the moment and it is important to get the colour cast on my monitors accurate. I know it is a lot of money, but I have found the old Spyder made a big difference when I was getting prints done from my digital cameras. It makes it more likely to get prints close to what you see on screen.

There are cheaper calibrators, but this gets good write-ups.

  • Can also make games and media look a lot better (if you aren't calibrated).

I usually get new monitors or laptop screens in bundles. renting a calibration tool is $20-$30 for a weekend

    • Yeah this. Five bucks a week even.

      • Where abouts is $5 a week for a Spyder? We've hired it for ~$33 - Borges in Port Melbourne too.

    • I'm also interested about where to rent one in melbourne… or if someone is getting one and wants to PM me, feel free!

Awesome. I was starting to get random purchase from ozbargain post withdrawal (RPOP??). I even did this purchase whilst waiting for a table at restaurant lol

I want to do this for my colour negs too. Can you share your method on how to remove the colour cast from the films?

  • Friends, is there actually a benefit to owning one over renting one if you only want to calibrate a few screens? They tend to push it as needing recalibration firly frequently but that doesn't seem realistic to me.

    • It depends how much you do with photography, desktop publishing or videography. If it is just emails, word processing and watching cat videos - just rent one every 6 to 12 months.

You monitor's backlight does change with age, but most people won't notice. I'm only doing this because of all the neg scanning I am doing.

      • There's very little change in colour over time for LED lit monitors. Monitors with fluorescent bulbs could see some fairly rapid changes over time.
