eBay Didn't Refund My Missing Case of Beer

I bought two cases of beer from cub_beer in eBay. But only one arrived. I contacted the seller with no response. After appeal, eBay came back with no refund and had no explanation at all. I don't know what else I can do to escalate the case. I think this would be my last time purchase from eBay.

It is not about money, but more about not being treated fairly. Can someone advise please?

Thanks.

If you paid with PayPal try them next. You can also lodge a dispute with your credit card company.

Were you present when the beer was delivered? If not, where was the beer left?

Did you keep the Aus Post packaging?

  • maybe the postie stole it

  • I purchased the beer with ebay gift card. And my mum was present when one case of beer was delivered.

"After reviewing this case, we decided to keep the original outcome. We weren't able to grant your appeal because we determined the original decision was correct.

You won't receive a refund for this case."

That is the only message I received from ebay after I filled in the declaration form, got JP to witness my signature, and lodged the case….very dissapointed with ebay.

The weight/cost of shipping should be an indication of the contents. Do you have that?

I reckon eBay have put this in the 'too hard basket' and due to the fact you paid with a GC you'll be on the losing end. Ultimately, they would have to charge the retailer, which results in a complaint from them. If you used a CC or PP eBay would be incentivised to do this because they know you'll just escalate/do a chargeback thus likely resulting in a refund for you. As you paid with a GC you have no financial/legal recourse. There is nothing you can do - eBay know this and as such, pissing you off is easier than pissing the retailer off.

    • Contact Customer service and ask for a second appeal. You might have better luck like me with a second appeal.

I recently went through an eBay appeal process where eBay and not the seller made a mistake. First appeal was rejected and second appeal was approved :).

Do you get to choose type of dispute ie. Item not as described, item not received?

Make sure you didn't choose item not delivered.

Thanks for Frugal Rock's suggestion. I checked Austpost's tracking history. The second item was damage and sent back to the seller. It took a month for Austpost to proceed….I don't know when it would be resolved or whether I would get compensation.
Feeling ok now since it is not ebay or the ebay seller's fault.

  • Typically when there's an issue with the product/delivery, the dispute process requires back and forth communication between the seller and the buyer before eBay steps in. If the seller doesn't respond, eBay normally sides with the buyer and provides a refund.

What process did you go through instead?

I had a similar issue with an undelivered package in december. Item didn't arrive. Seller not communicating. I put a case to ebay and they denied a refund (Ebay Gift card). I appealed to payPal and they made the seller refund the purchase price & postage as a credit back to the gift card.
