  • Looking at buying a pair of these in the next month before I go overseas, would anyone know if duty free would be cheaper than this deal? thanks

    • +2

Get here with the discount and claim the GST on the price before the discount when you fly!

    • +1

      Definitely not.

    • +3

      Duty free is more expensive.
Get this deal and claim it through the TRS.

    • It won’t get that much cheaper than this. and for the price you pay this is amazing deal. I bought it around 365 something.
If you’re in It industry and use it at work perhaps you can claim income tax.

After using both, can honestly vouch for the Sony WH-1000MX3 more. It's just fantastic with sound quality, lighter, USB-C so all my phone chargers and laptop charger can charge it, the LDAC bluetooth codec has the highest bitrate and with the right settings (on Android) you can enable it in this beast mode, etc.

If you care about some of what I mentioned, wait for a good price for those :)

Nothing against the QC35 ii's though - they came much before and are also stellar

Only thing stopping me from jumping to the Sony from my Bose is the Sony can only connect to one device at at time. For example, if I’m connected to my computer with my Bose then a phone call comes it switches automatically to the phone to answer the call. To my understanding the Sony can’t do this. I do think they Sony are better other than this feature that I really like.

      • +4

Valid point - I guess for my use case it is not needed, but yes the Sony's miss this feature sorely :((

      • so i must be stupid, my old samsung level on headphones use to do this, but then i thought it was a bug why my headphones switched to phone when getting call. nice to have feature

      • does Beats Studio 3 have this feature?

      • +1

My 1000xm3's automatically switch from my Sony NW-A55 to my iPhone 7 when calls are received. Not sure whether other people have had similar experiences or whether it's unique to my device setup.

        • How'd you do that?

          • @Karimov: I don't know.

I had setup the headphones first on iPhone 7 with the Sony Headphones app.

Then I connected the headphones to my Sony NW-A55 for regular music.

For me the ability to switch seems quite normal, but not sure whether it's the experience that others have when they use different devices.

            • @ak47wong: nice.. so what is this 'can't pair to 2 devices' thing that everyone keeps saying about the sony?

              • @nokia3660: Good question. I'd never actually tried it before, but I just did now and it actually works. I was able to pair with my laptop and my phone at the same time. I'm listening to music on the laptop now and when a call came in on my phone, it switched over. When the call ended, the music from my laptop resumed. So it does work!

      • I use my headphones very similarly MrPyz! Only issue with the Bose for phone calls is that the mic picks up all noises in my room, the Mrs reckons she hears my keystrokes as clearly as my voice.

    • +1

EDIT: Why did I not mention one of the main things - the active noise cancellation on the Sony's are AMAZING. Flights and busses/trains become silent.

      • Think I’ll pull the trigger when next gen ones are out, I expect the Sony will have that by then or maybe Bose have taken the title back and I’ll get the Bose.

        • Just beware, "generations" on these devices take multiple years. It's not like phones where it's yearly or half-yearly.

          • @TwentyTwoCarats: Yup, totally happy with my gen 1 Bose QC 35 until my ideal ones come along. Just touching on one thing you said earlier, the noise cancellation and sound on the sony, in my opinion, is far better than my Bose!

    • @TwentyTwoCarats Actually that's not true, the Bose QC35 is lighter. Bose = 235g vs. Sony= 254g

I saw this video comparing them: https://youtu.be/BTsmwR801nQ Mind the title is a bit misleading but I kind of trust Linus a lot over these things. Apparently USB type C its the defining factor

    • +2

The "defining factor" is always going to be personal. Everyone has different needs and use cases. Watch a series of reviews, and don't go with a reviewer's word just because they have a lot of views/subs.

      • +1

I was just providing a video for anyone interested in buying any noise-canceling headphones. I don't vouch for a particular channel or reviewer neither for any headphone btw, so try to be less condescendence in your comments

        • +1

Sorry, I see how it came off now. I was mainly going at your final sentence, because I was thinking why should the deciding factor be USB-C for you just because it was Linus' deciding factor. But yeah, you get me. My bad :)

  • Anyone find that when music is played loud that others around can hear? Sound isolation doesnt seem great

    • yeah same. was surprised just how loud it is

  • still waiting for the next version, love mine to bits.

  • Putting aside all the bells and whistles how do they compare sound wise to Beyerdynamic DT 770s?

  • Beware if you own a Samsung Exynos device you won't get AptX or AptXHD, AAC only.

    • My samsung exynos s10+ has all the bluetooth codecs…

      • Can confirm on my Note 9

        • confirm that you have all the codecs or that AptX is missing
