Been meaning to buy one for a while, but although in a different price range (~AU$350), I'm considering holding off to get the Google Nest Hub Max (inc;. camera and larger screen) in a few months. And if not, the price on this will probably drop further?

    • I have 2 of these, 1 for my gramps as a digital photo frame mostly and to play spotify free, and another for my parents for similar plus reminders and alarms sometimes Duo calling. The general feedback is that it is too small so I am looking forward to the Nest Hub Max too

      • duo would be pointless with no video tho

  • love my google hub. Have it in the kitchen and its great

Nice… got one from Frugal Shop.. not sure why I exactly need this (ozbargain requirement to buy it cause its cheap!)

  • great photo frame, kitchen timer, an ok for hands free recipes and cooking.

I wouldnt play music on it if you can avoid it.

    • Can you sync it to an external bluetooth speaker to play music?

      • Would be surprised if you can't. The Home and Mini can.

      • Yes you can

Alternatively you can get the Lenovo Smart Display from Good Guys for $131.65 including postage by using PHOENIX code.

The main selling point for me was that you can cast Plex to the Lenovo.
I was about to head out and but the Home Hub when I saw a comment here about Plex. Now I can have a tv show/movie playing in the kitchen for some background noise

      • Damnit. Wish I knew that earlier. Sound would be better on the Lenovo too

You can do that with the Home Hub too, just tried it with Plex and cast video to it .. works great.

    • The lenovo comes with a camera for video calls and a bigger screen (8" vs 7"). Great deal!

  • Works well as a clock radio. One thing I have notified lately is when the alarm goes off sometimes the snooze/off button doesn't appear on the screen.

    • Is there a backlight and if so is it on all the time? I like the idea of one as a clock radio but not a night light.

      • Yes but it auto adjusts depending on the amount of light in the room. At night it is very dim and you can also adjust the amount via the home app.

  • which is better between Google Home Hub and Lenovo Smart Display? looking at the spec sheet, Lenovo has better screen resolution and a camera for video calls.

    • Depends how you intend to use it. For the bedroom/kitchen the home hub as it's smaller. For the lounge room the Lenovo.

    • Neither need or interested in this product.
But Lenovo also has a slightly larger display (by 1-inch) and is designed so it can be placed vertically as well as horizontally (if that matters).

Went to JB to look at the real thing. The bezels on the Lenovo are HUGE, and the screen look tiny when compared to the body.
The Home Hub hides the speaker at the back of the screen giving the impression of a smaller footprint.
Without testing all the functions, i'd say the Hub won on appearance.

      • lenovo is 8" or 10" compared to this 7"
