$120 for a Hardly Used Nintendo Dsi?

mmm, a friend just got a 3DS and I've became a victim to his old DSi.

I don't know much about it. I used to play sega game gear and haven't touch a console really since.

He tells me he also can sell me a cartridge that I can download games on.

I wonder if this kid's console is something I can use when 1 game I've played on it is kids.

kids. I am in my mid 20s.

  • Search ebay for a price range
and yes you can get a cartridge to play "backup games" ones like R4 but I guess you might of already found out that from google?

  • $120 is a bargain for that, considering that used DS Lite still sell for about $150 (they are arguably the best of all DS though..)

I suggest getting an R4 and yes there are mature games on there, if you look for em.

    • DSi is better than lite? no?

      • its newer, but lite had more capabilities.

    • And R4 is an old card with hundreds of clones (many pretty dubious) and no official firmware support. Why suggest that over something more modern? Or have I missed something?

      • There is an unofficial R4 kernel update ever since Apr, 2010 - Wood R4 kernel. Now this wood kernel updates every month. The problem is R4 ds card can only be used for DS Lite and DS console.

  • bargain you say? not according video. yeah R4 that's that cartridge right?

  • Definitely a bargain. For a DSi, you probably need a updated cart (R4 is probably outdated). There are pretty good games for adults and kids as well!

  • yeah just wondering what to play on it

  • I don't know about you, truebargains, but I'm planning to get a DS Lite soon just to play puzzle games like Phoenix Wright and Clayton. :P
I don't want to spend more than $50 though.

    • Don't forget professor layton (or is that what u meant by clayton?)

I think the latest layton game doesnt work on r4.. Or so i've heard.

      • Many modern games don't work on R4, the card is way outdated. As far as I can determine (no expert), there is some R4 cards that support (hacked) Acekard firmware and that makes them semi-useable again.

        • all modern games work on R4 for me, there was a fix released a while ago.

    • The latest Prof Layton (Spectre) works on my CycloDS

  • yeah I saw that but they selling for $150 in the Weekend Shopper (classifed ads)

  • There are are other mod cards (that are updated so supports newer games) other than R4 for the DS Lite.

Anyhow, i still have and play my DS lite and i'm older than the OP ahem

I still play games like Professor Layton, Dragons Quest, Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros, and your puzzle games like Tetris, jewel Quest etc…, so there are plenty of games for older folk.

  • -1

Myer is selling brand new DSI for $129 + $8 H&S. So I would say your friend;s is not a good bargain.

    • That's a DS Lite, man.
And I wouldn't even pay half that for a 2nd hand. (Coz I'm damn cheap!)

  • If I wanted a DS for a 6yo to play and to play backups, wot model is the best, DSlite, DSi, or DSxl? I see Target are selling the lite for $100? Basically after the easiest one to play backups on, dont care which model it is. So the lite has more features?? ISnt it older?

    • The Lite is older and cheaper, and most (all?) DSi games play on it.

The XL has bigger screens, so in MY mind that is the best one. But my 7 year old has a Lite and have never asked for a DSi or XL.

Regarding the DSi - What would a kid do with a camera anyway? Most 6 year olds will have a digital camera and/iPod with a decent camera in it anyway.

All modern cards (eg: Acekard) will run on DSi as well as DS, but older ones like R4 might not.

Note that 3DS is a completely new platform, so that is a bit of a wildcard (for me at least).

    • If you have Gba catridges, go for dslite because it got slot for gba catridge. If not, dslite and dsi difference is in camera. I don't know about other features since I don't play with it (my kids play). I use acekard, it works fine.
