OzBargain's Favourite Things - Moving House

Hi Everyone,

Curious to know what are OzB's favourite things. Moving out soon and need to buy pretty much everything.

Have already got my heart set on a Hisense 75″ SERIES 7. Would like suggestions on:

Washing machine (front loader)

Fridge (needs plumbed water and auto ice maker)

Dishwasher

Vacuum (cordless and corded)

Soundbar

Security Cameras (outdoor only)

BBQ (4 burner)

"smart" light bulbs / wireless home things / anything of the like

Cheers!

definitely - whole purpose of me asking the questions is so I can make informed purchases

    Hisense 75″ SERIES 7 bigger ain't always better. B8 65 OLED

Washing machine (front loader) - LG direct drive is nice, no issue with belts.

Fridge (needs plumbed water and auto ice maker) Fisher and Paykel plumbed models. Exact model will depend on size.

Dishwasher - any of the flagship models. TBH, they all look so similar and are all dead quiet so the cheapest premium brand flagship would be fine.

Vacuum (cordless and corded) - V11. Cordless with the power of corded (imagine I'm a 5'11 Scandanavian model saying that). If you want something for dirty work, Karcher W6P.

Soundbar - is your room walled on all sides? soundbars suck in open spaces.

Security Cameras (outdoor only) - Arlo Pro 2 if you're renting, Ubiquiti G3 if owner occupied.

BBQ (4 burner) - charcoal. Whadayya doin mate?

"smart" light bulbs / wireless home things / anything of the like Hue Hue Hue

    • soundbars suck in open spaces.

Since you're offering fairly high-end suggestions (by OzB standards at least ;) ), something like this will blow any soundbar out of the water: https://www.digitalcinema.com.au/bowers-wilkins-mt-50-5-1-pi…

(No endorsement of that particular set, but B&W generally make very good speakers)

      • I like B&W too but I haven't been able to justify their premium for a long time. The last B&W I had is a 800 series bookshelf. Coughed up the premium cause it was pretty and I was a B&W fanboy.

I was a speaker snob but I conceded that soundbars work well (relative but I'm satisfied) if placed in a room (within speaker specification volume) and with 4 walls.

Ps. I thought B8 was our Camry?

        • Had? :'(

@abb: Upgraded. I have space for full floor standing now.

TV budget is sub 1.7k at this stage, perhaps less as we may settle for a 65" due to the size of the room

I've looked into Arlo Pro 2. It is an investment that we'll be living in short-mid term so I might also look at Ubiquiti as well, cheers

I'm presuming you are younger and more likely to entertain at home…

I am not keen on soundbars.
Two reasonable upright 3-way speakers both sides of your TV connected to a decent receiver (amplifier)
Great to play music videos, concerts and movies of course!
The receiver has multiple HDMI inputs for your Chromecast, gaming console etc - think of it as the new heart of your entertainment system.
Friends on your Wifi can play Youtube direct to that output.
Sounds great. Looks great. Makes for fun evenings.
Down the track add more speakers if space allows.

Our LG 8.5Kg washer/dryer combo machine has never missed a beat. Start cycle when you go out to work and come home to clean dry clothes, sheets or towels.

Weber Q3200 family model (two burner) has heaps of room for 15-20 people BBQs. Indirect cooking for roasts is very useful. Easy to clean.

    Have fun!

I do have a 2.1 logitech system that I'll use in the interim. That will do for mid term, simply seeing what soundbars/or otherwise people are using or like

LG seem like the way to go washer wise, thanks!

    Washing machine (front loader)

-I have an LG and reccomend

Fridge (needs plumbed water and auto ice maker)

    -No opinion here

    Dishwasher

    • No opinion here

    Vacuum (cordless and corded)

-Dyson V6 is best bang for buck. Don't get sucked in (pun intended) to better models. No need for corded.

    Soundbar

-All sound bars are AIDS. Get a second-hand surround sound system for cheap. Speaker quality has NOT changed significantly in the last 10 years (dolby atmos excluded, but you can get that though APPLE tv for example :)

    Security Cameras (outdoor only)

    • I thought ARLO would be awesome. It's OK, batteries needing to be replaced are annoying. Get HICK vision I think, set up local storage. Pay someone though airstasker to set it up and it's still cheaper than ARLO.

    BBQ (4 burner)

    -Weber is better.

    • +1

Thanks - Dyson seem to be recommended in a few places so I'll do some research into them
      Weber as well

Interesting about HICK - haven't heard of them till now

      • Seen Hikvision recommended a few times OzB but takes a bit to install. The IT guys at work swears by them you may have heard! You can also purchase them on Alibaba for a really good deal if you are savvy.

At fault uninsured motor accidents which also copped a fine, who are asking for someone else.

You're moving out in style. Holy cow. All I got for my first move was a kettle and a saucepan.

    • +1

Not really, If these aren't essential items I'm not sure what are?

      • +3

        My first move?

        pot and pan (singular)
        laptop
        washing machine
        bar fridge
        Cutlery and plates for 2

No furniture for months. Mattress on floor. Bulbs were not LED (those were like sci-fi level stuff).

  • you seem rich, i dont think you need ozbargain

    • +3

Did wanting a budget brand TV give that away?
      Everyone needs OzB..

  • Are you moving out or moving to a new house? If you are moving out and looking for 75" TVs and smart things and 2 Vaccum cleaners, etc, etc., I think you better handover the OZB badge!

    • +2

Bargain hunting and being thrifty are actually two different things.

OP is clearly not thrifty (and if I'm being honest, nor am I) but would like to pay the bottom dollar for goods where they are identical wether you paid RRP or you bought it at liquidation.

    • one vacuum; tossing up between corded or not
75" TV is neither here or there

      • Don't get corded vacuum (unless you have a need to vacuum for more than 20 minutes continuously)
        Cordless are way better
