Bag of Cat Food Purchased on eBay Had Large Tear - Thoughts?

I purchased a bag of cat food from eBay and when I opened the box I found that the bag has a large tear on the side towards the bottom. The box it came in was undamaged, which kinda leads me to believe it happened during packing.

I messaged the seller but the response I got was less than helpful, I've attached a screenshot of the conversation.

Just trying to see if I should just ignore it and move on or if I should press for some kind of compensation.

Get a refund, the integrity of the bag was compromised and even if its not gone bad yet the tear has prematurely staled the cat food. Get a full refund and then feed it to your cat anyway.

Tape up the bag, tip the contents from the box back into the bag, leave negative feedback about item damaged inside box and seller offered no resolution..

    and then move on ;)

Your negative would be removed with one quick email to ebay because you never asked for any compensation and decided to keep the goods anyway.

Open not as describe case on ebay and attach the picture as evident.

Make a claim so that the seller can learn a lesson as well. He/She should make an effort in packaging item.

Imagine you receive a box of broken wine, and the seller replied it must be damaged during transit. I just wouldn't ship broken wine like that. All the liquid are absorbed by the card box, so no harm done. You just need to soak the box in water and squeeze out the wine.

The box looks damaged to me.

  • Who cares? Tip all the food into a container and treat it as normal. Then move on.

You can open a case with PayPal and ask for a replacement and the seller will most likely offer a partial refund. If you want a full refund, you can also do so, but the seller probably tells you to keep the damaged bag because return postage is paid by the seller.

Regardless, you shouldn’t be feeding dry food to your cats…. it’s really bad for cats, although I understand most cat owners don’t care that much, cannot afford better food, too busy to feed non kibble, etc.

My cats eat both wet food and dry food, also do you have any proof of kibble being bad?

    • Our cats get a mixture of air dried Ziwipeak, Feline Natural wet tin food, poached chicken breasts and cubes of beef (both human grade), we also add some Taurine to the chicken breasts. We have a bit of a regurgitation problem with one of our girls which is why the poached chicken breasts. The air dried Ziwipeak is not "filler kibble" and we put it out to ensure our girls have access to food overnight without having the house smell of cat food. I do agree that feeding your cat, exclusively, with kibble can be bad for their kidneys. We also brush out cats teeth on days with a "t" un it to try to ensure they don't have teeth problems; the breed is known for gingivitis. Like all our cats they aren't the least bit interested in chewing on chicken wings, necks etc.

      • What is it that you use to brush their teeth? And how do you get them to sit still?

We use this stuff and it is a two person job. One holds the cat and the other cleans the teeth. We, also, don't try to brush them for too long. We have two gorgeous Somali girl cats and the breeder was very good at conditioning them. They are active but very placid personalities. They aren't happy about brushing their teeth but they don't bite or scratch.

          • @try2bhelpful: We use the same toothpaste. Our cats aren’t very happy with tooth brushing but it’s very important to regularly brush their teeth. If anyone reading this is thinking about brushing their cats, do not use human toothpaste.

            • @User210686: Absolutely. The toothpaste and brush combination gives your cats the optimum system. If you get then used to it by doing it for short sessions from when they are little they are pretty tolerant. Better a small amount that doesn’t stress them than to fight them for longer. You also want to make sure they get plenty of cuddles so they don’t associate everytime you come near them with teeth brushing. as I said we do it on days with a “t” in it because the spread is pretty good and we can remember what days to do it. The vets were pretty impressed with their teeth quality, last time, and they were a bit iffy before we started brushing.

Feed them real food. Not unregulated highly processed cheap shit.
