  • Got one, thanks.

  • Can you use these on Optus Landline?

    • Can't see why not, it's not locked to telstra or anything like mobile phones are

        Oh thanks bro

  • Got one as a bday present for parents in law cheers

For people using with NBN… why do you guys even need home phones these days? Doesn't everyone have mobiles?

    • Not everyone wants a mobile and the associated plan.

NBN plans come with free phone calls (well at least free local calls) - so why not use it?

      • Mobile local calls are usually free these days aren't they? Even homeless people have mobile phones these days

        • Yes, but you'd still be spending at least $10 a month for your mobile plan.

  • Thanks OP

Snoozed and lost on round one. Didn't hesitate this time. Thanks OP.

  • Do these phones work if you're not on the NBN (cable internet)? Or do they only work on NBN? And how do you use them (plug into phone line/modem and use)? I'm not tech savvy.

    • +1

Just plug it into your old landline socket (with a filter if you're on ADSL).

  • Back in stock! Just pick one up!

  • Is the call quality clear?
We have another el cheapo Telstra cordless and the call quality is poor.

  • Quality is ok. No built in answering machine. Does anyone know how to set up speed dialing?

    • How loud is the speakerphone?

      • Very loud even on quietest setting. Worked out speed dialing but can't find a way to deregister handset from base so i can use the handsets with another base.

        • I have seen threads where people have paired a similar phone directly to their modem. I wonder if you need to deregister at all, or just register with the new base. I have no first had experience but that's just what I'd try.

        • One other question if I can trouble you?
Am I right to be concerned that the Do Not Disturb button would be easy to bump by accident?

          • @syousef: Not when you are holding the phone to your ear. When handling the phone any button can be pushed easily, but if you push the 'do not disturb' button, the phone makes a noise if your tones are on, and 'do not disturb' comes up on the screen in big writing.

        • Well, what a saga. Spoke to 13220 for about two hours getting transferred around. Spoke to the department that sells these, they said to talk online to the chat people. After more than an hour they couldn't help but told me the company that makes them who gave me the info immediately.

For NON NBN setup, ie normal landline, to add up to an additional 3 handsets to make it 5 in total, (I only did up to 4 handsets) go to Menu -> Vol Down to 'Advanced setup' -> 'ok' -> vol down to 'unregister' -> 'ok' using the base the handset came with.

Once the handset is unregistered do the same as above except select 'register' and 'ok'

When the handset is saying 'searching', PUSH the "Page" button on the base for FIVE SECONDS.

All the handsets talk to each other, so if you add a contact it shares the info automatically. 102 doesn't have a built in answering machine. The 202 does.

          • @abacus: Thank you! That is awesome! Will try it out.

          • @abacus: I couldn't get a 5th phone registered. Tried 2 different phones. It just says "registration failed". So I suspect the limit is 4 not 5, despite what you were told.

I was also able to register a unit directly to my Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2, but as you lose the ability to page etc, I decided against doing that. Still it might be the way to go for someone looking for a simpler setup with less wires.

        • silly question but how do you enable the speakerphone? I couldn't see it in the guide unless im going blind

          • @mrshorty: If it's like my phone, I just select the number then hit/push the speakerphone button

  • Just a heads up for anyone waiting on these. 24x7 chatted regarding status. Telstra said they will give me a call within a week to let me know if they can fulfill the order.

    • Got my shipment advice this afternoon.

      • Mine arrived today too, less than an hour ago. I haven't checked the contents because I'm not home. My mother was home with my kids who are unwell. Oddly the courier insisted on seeing a photo of my driver's license, even though I wasn't the one signing. He had me send it to my mother's phone. I made sure to tell her not to let him take a copy, so I'm not too worried but it was still rather odd.

        • I had a similar thing with a free telstra SIM - I had to go pick it up from the Post Office because they needed to see ID.

          It's probably Telstra's shipping method.

          • @AdrianW: Yeah that sounds about right. Dealing with Telstra to move to NBN has been nothing short of a nightmare.

            • @syousef: Bloody Aussie Post couldn't be arsed ringing the bell - left a card for the phones from Telstra. Have to go pick them up tomorrow! The left an-unrelated delivery on the doorstep though.

              • @AdrianW: Deliveries in Aus have gone to hell. Less frequent. Worse service. Often forced to pick up, sometimes from far way.

              • @AdrianW: It’s become the worst service imaginable. I’ve lodged many complaints over the last two years.

      • I got the phone 3 days ago. On more then 50% of the incoming calls when i try to pick up, the phone makes a crackling sound and does not pick up the call. I am in an endless loop trying to deal with these morons at telstra.
4 times transferred on chat and 6th call on the phone. Terrible product, hopeless support.

        • Yes support is terrible.

I got a bunch to replace phones at my house and my mum's. Sure hope yours is just faulty and it's not the norm.

The Doro phones I've been using I've had for a good 15+ years.

          • @syousef: I just dropped it off at the store today. I asked for a refund they said they can only give credit to my account. I don't have an account the only account with Telstra is under my mom's name, and the purchase of the handset was done by me as an individual buyer, nothing to do with any account. Now that is extortion… but what can you do, seems like everyone I communicated with is whacked in the head.

            • @Winston100s: You can tell them that they're violating Australian Consumer Law and demand the refund, and threaten then if necessary follow through complaining to your state's fair trading body. It's a lot of effort. But I'd do it. And often threatening to do it is enough. Sounds like you've already chosen to put the credit on your mother's account though.

  • Thanks heaps OP, Delivered to my door in 48hrs in regional QLD. Fraser coast region
Picked up 2 sets and 4 handsets registered no problem to the one base.
NBN Fixed Wireless and Auspost are fantastic here in the bush.
Telstra & Optus Mobile service woeful , landline via NBN still essential.
