    Almond Milk @ Woolworths

    In case you were wondering….

    • Everyone needs to watch the above video. It will brighten your day.

    • +4

Informative! Also, almond milk doesn't require this crucial step as does cow's milk.

      • Edit: I made a joke before I watched that but nope, not a humorous video. Not at all. NSFW.

        • +4

          NSFW

Really? Where do you work? Do you have cow's milk in the fridge?

      • almond milk doesn't require this crucial step

        It's not a crucial step….

        • Not in the bucolic fantasy everyone is duped to believe in, but how else you gonna take baby's milk from mumma?

    • JV, I followed the steps to make almond milk.

Also, I shook my almond milk bottle for 45min-1h and I made almond butter.

That video helps me to understand how some people get elected to parliament

    From the udders of almonds.

    • +1

      Straight from the almond nips.

Would a better name be Nut Juice ?

      • Only from the male plant

    • From the udders of almonds.

      I am moooved.

  • all the health benefits of water but with added sugar!

    • +15

It's probably healthier than consuming cow hormones.

Some of us are lactose intolerant. We don't really have a choice.

      • don't really have a choice

🤔 There's goat's milk, sheep's milk, camel's milk, soy milk, rice milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, pea milk, hemp milk (yes, that's for real), …

Plus there's lactose free cow's milk.

        Plus there's also this.

You can make this yourself by taking 1 dirty cup that had milk in it and adding water until the cup is full again, tastes the same!

  • How do they get the breeze out of the almonds?

  • +2

Almond milk recipe: Take knife just used to spread almond butter. Stir knife in cup of water. Voila, almond milk! Also applies to peanut butter and Nutella!

    • +4

      Also works for Vegemite milk.

      • Actually a good way to make a hot 'soup' if you're camping and need something warm.

      • My man!

        Yes!

Pureharvest Original has 10%, Inside Out 11%, both also 100% Australian-owned, unlike Almond Breeze

      • Yep my bad, the one I usually buy as mentioned above has 10%

Fingers crossed that will be half price sometime soon!

      • Made in Australia from at least 82% Australian ingredients.

Ingredients: Filtered water (?%), Activated organic almonds (10%), Organic rice syrup (?%), Sea salt (?).

$5 says the 82% Australian ingredients is pretty much just the water.

    • 7% is a marketing scam. That's for "activated almonds".

All supermarket brands have about the same amount of almonds. Just check the protein and/or fat content where no significant protein or fatty additives are added.

  • So from the comments above, I'm guessing this is not a decent alternative to actual milk?

    • +2

Ozbargain rule 1: Buy first, ask questions later. Go ahead and try it for yourself. It's all a matter of personal taste.

    • Personally I think it tastes disgusting, we're all different though.

    • The vanilla one tastes great in tea :)

  • Should be 100% almonda then you would take all of its benefits.

    • +5

ist benefits are, if your drinking almond milk then your not drinking the growth hormones of another animal.

Stock up indeed. Love me some nut juice.

For people like me that want to lower their cholesterol and fat intak, Almond Milk is fantastic, I use the Unsweetened Vanilla and it even froths up perfectly in my Nespresso Latissima Pro coffee maker.

  • Almond Breeze is one of the only almond milks I've come across that uses carrageenan as an ingredient. Its usage is a bit controversial (google for more info), so if you want to play it safe, especially if you plan on drinking a lot of the stuff, it might be better to avoid and go for a brand which doesn't contain it.

    • It also has hardly any nutrition compared to regular milk.

  • Cheers OP! Not a huge fan of Almond Milk but keep it around coz it’s the only thing that I’ve found to stop heart burn after stumbling across some suggesting it on Google.

Only one of them tastes like milk, as for the others, I'd rather drink dish water…

      • +4

I can only taste the suffering when I drink dairy milk

Use your own cow then if you're that concerned…

          • +3

@jv: I am an adult now so I don't need milk let alone from another species ;)

            • -3

              @xtommyk:

I am an adult now so I don't need milk

Milk is very nutritious, much much more so that Almond milk… Ask any dietitian…

  • Looked at mine in the Fridge (not Almond Breeze), as I can't have milk.
List of ingredients does not sound nice and certainly not what you find in real milk:

    Almonds 2.5%
    E170 Calcium carbonate Chalk
    E322 Lecithin emulsifier
    E415 Xanthan gum (thickener) stabiliser
E418 Gellan gum (thickener) (stabiliser) emulsifier
Rest is water, so they can rightly claim 94% Australian ingredients. :)

Think going forward, I might just buy some ground almonds and mix it with water myself.

  • For those that will drink this anyway this is indeed an unusually low price. The chocolate one makes a light soft drink, like a Choc Soy further diluted in water.

A benefit of the low almond percentage is you could probably use it as water. Wash your eyes with it, dilute coolant etc

And once you remove the 20 cents for retail almonds you're left with a decent price for packaged water. If you're the type of rich freak to buy bottled water :)

  • thanks op, cleared the shelf at my local woolies.
