    • $50 credit is not transferable and is limited to one $50 credit per account. An eligible purchase must be made for 3 consecutive statement months to qualify for the $50 credit. Any interest free promotions, card fees, balance transfers, or cash advances do not count towards your initial spend. To qualify, your HSBC Credit Card account must not be in arrears. Please allow up to 3 statement periods from the end of this promotion for your $50 to appear on your statement. Offer not available to current or previous HSBC credit card holders.
    • Anyone know what the "eligible purchase" entails? I'm guessing they've partnered up with some big store like Woolies or Myers and they will only consider purchases made in these stores…

  • Hmm, look okay but I got my own Citibank credit card with fee free for lifetime. Additional I gained points as well.

Maybe I could have two credit cards if considering this.

How did you manage to get fee free for life with Citi?

      • Lol, someone posted on ozbargain ofcourse. I got one too, back in 08 someone posted it here. Gold fee free for life with points. Great deal and great card

        • Yup, that was 2008. It was offered to new for a limited time. I ain't gonna cancel my currently credit card until my death upon me.

        • Yeah. I got the Gold card free for life with Citibank back in 08 or so. About a year later, they offered free upgrade to Platinum. (but still free for life for both my card and additional card) Never getting rid of this one. lol

        • I got my Gold citibank too !! Free for the life of the card + points. AND they upgraded me to a platinum not long after i joined ^_^

    • want to know how too!

  • is non PR eligiable?

This HSBC card sucks, it doesn't come with anything but the $50 one-off bonus. You don't want to waste your credit rating potential on a bad card. Any better $0 annual fee credit cards out there?

28 degrees. no international purchase fees, up to 55 days interest free

      • Yes, hands down the best, I think just about everyone has it already… but what's 2nd best?

        • Try the bankwest zero card, three types to choose from (classic, gold & platinum). The latter two even comes with insurance.

        • Bankwest zero card has excess fees when claiming insurance :(

        • If you don't need points and up to 55 day credit limit, consider nab's Gold Visa debit card that comes with free travel, purchase protection and extended warranty insurance covers. Except for travel cover, there is no excess payable. Refer to nab's website for new terms & conditions effective from today.

        • I'm wary about NAB's extended warranty and purchase protection insurance, if you read the terms and conditions, it restricts covered products to "domestic appliances". As far as I'm aware, other extended warranty insurance policies have no such restriction.

    • You don't want to waste your credit rating potential on a bad card.

Applying for a credit card does not make you look bad, not paying the credit card bill does.

    • I don't understand what dkslim is getting at.
      $0 annual fee.
      $50 one-off bonus.
A Visa card like any other Visa card.

If I pay off my card at the end of every month, what's the difference from any other $0 card?

      • I think as a 0 fee Visa card it should be the same, but hidden catches and bad service are what he was talking about.

      • What I'm getting at is, there are better credit card options out there, which provides everything the HSBC card does, plus more - for free.

As mentioned, 28 degrees card and Bankwest zero card both does everything the HSBC card can do, plus extras like no foreign transaction fees and free insurance.

The only reason to go for the HSBC card over 28d and Bankwest, is the $50 reward, but it will come at a cost - your ability to get 1 credit card less in future. There's a limit to how many credit cards you can have, before future card companies start to reject your application.

In short - get a credit card that provides ongoing benefits like rewards points and free insurance, rather than just a bare credit card like the HSBC that has no ongoing benefits.

  • i havent had this hsbc credit card. is it good to have it? is there any hidden charge that im not aware of?

  • Last time there was this promotion, you had to spend $x within your first statement. Because my first statement was about 4 days after I received my card, I didn't manage it and there was no lenience from HSBC so I haven't used the card since.
