    • Details…

      Yeah would of helped!

  • -1

To call a camera pro and only have 720p is a joke. Also there's monthly subscription required once the included runs out

    • +2

      u get 7 days free motion footage…
720p is still considered hd - and you can still make out people from the videos / its nice to have something watching the house when you're at work/at the
      shops…
if you want continuous then you'll need to plug it in and pay.

happy with the pro (use it for ~3yrs now)
going to update to the pro2.

      • Don't go pro2 if you need night vision

  • +2

    Note, Pro not pro 2.

  • How is the recording quality at night? I find most security cameras do ok during the daytime recording but crap at night.

    • I have been using it for a year. Overall I am happy but there is bit of a lag etc so you can't use it to talk to someone. Moreover the speaker is bit of a joke as you can hardly hear anything.

In terms of night vision, its recorded in black and white so not as good as during the day. You can still see what's happening but recognising a face is bit harder. I think Pro 2 or Pro Ultra allow coloured recording at night.

In short, its great for notifications etc. I can see when postie came etc. but if you really need it for "security" purposes then the wired ones offer more robust monitoring.

      • Thanks. I am looking for a wireless setup to replace my existing wired setup broke months ago. Wireless really save installation time or to pay someone to instal wired setup (I paid $500 labour). I guess I will wait for Pro 2 to go on sale because my use for it is to identify at least the plate number of a car from 20m away.

        • you won't make out the number plate of a car at a distance of 20m on any Arlo camera. You will make out a number plate at a max distance of about 9 meters on an Arlo Pro 2 camera (1080p).

      • What is the battery life like?

        • Battery life is very good actually. With 5-10 notifications a day, it easily lasts for 3+ months. Depends upon how long you record the event for and how busy the area is where the camera is placed. I had to adjust the camera's view though i.e. ensure that there are no trees/ plants etc. otherwise they trigger the camera if it's too windy. Also I had to cut the street view as the camera would trigger if any car goes by. With Arlo Pro 2, you can create activity zones and manage that but I think you have to subscribe to one of their paid plans.

          • @ozioziozi: Looks like the activity zones feature is now available with the older models as well as part of the paid subscription. Doesn't do much for battery life though - it's more for supressing nuisance notifications and recordings, and could actually be counter-productive if your camera's positioned in a way that it's constantly being triggered and having its battery drained, but the zones feature is hiding the fact.

            • @Jabba the Hutt: Thanks! Yes, noted the exclamation symbol on the app, saying that I can create activity zones. Don't think I will be paying for the subscription though, especially when I have positioned the cameras in a way that I don't get most of the unwanted notifications. So far the setup seems to be working well.

    • Heres a good exmaple of night vision and how to improve the quality

We personally installed a $20 flood light sensor for the backyard and lights up anything for recording
For the driveway we have dim lights there so no issues

  • I friend has a Arlo Pro and i reckon for 720p it is very good in both daylight and night. Arlo Pro 2 can get as low as mid 700s so this might not be much of a bargain for something that's $100 cheaper.

  • Its a bit expensive. Badguys maybe targetting this xamera instead. How do you secure this camera from being stolen?

    • Install another camera watching this camera :) .. On a serious note, they are extremely easy to be removed. I don't use the magnetic mount but instead paid for the outdoor mounts but to be honest, they are still very easy to remove. You just need to unscrew it instead of pulling the magnetic bit. I have seen that some people have done some mods and used chains to tie down the camera etc. I don't think it's worth all this pain.
