Tasting notes for Hoegaarden White Beer courtesy of Boozebud

Brewed with pale malt, unmalted wheat, orange peel and coriander seeds. Secondary fermentation in the bottle and keg provides a cloudy appearance. A light fruity banana aroma is complemented by the evident spice notes reminiscent of cloves and coriander. Slight vanilla and hint of smoky notes are rounded out by a refreshing citrus character. The sour sweet taste that develops during the bottle conditioning is balanced by a soft bitterness lending a slight astringent touch on the finish leaving the palate refreshed.

This bright lager is an exquisite light golden colour delivering a clean white head. Graced with a fine subtle biscuity malt palette and a well-balanced clean hop bitterness finishing with slight grassy hop aroma. Perfect for raising a glass to celebrate the great Australian summer.

To me, Hoegaarden never tastes nearly as good out of a bottle as it does out of a tap (at a pub). Shame because out of a tap (in one of their signature hexagon glasses) it is delicious!

    • +2

stating the obvious? what beer tastes better in a bottle than on tap.

      • +2

Perhaps but I think that most bottled beers taste nearly as good as their tap variants, Hoegaarden is always markedly worse (it always tastes flat and loses that sharp, wheaty taste when out of a bottle, to me).

        • +1

Maybe try pouring into a chilled schooner glass I find that works with a lot of beer tinned or bottled

    • For me the taste changed in the bottles available in Perth about 3 years or so ago. So much so that I don't even buy it anymore, it's no where near as good as it used to be.

      • +1 I thought it was just me, but 3 years is about when i noticed a difference.

    • A few years ago my wife accidentally bought this White when it was $40 a slab from Liquor Legends, instead of normal Hoegaarden which we both like. Neither of us liked this wishy-washy stuff with an orange peel flavour.

Must be a good deal when OzB folks post within a second of each other. Slab ordered.

@Kapitoshka: Sigh lol i told you where it said it. How is that not helpful….. copied for you:

            • @Xizor: You know what, I'll let you go, don't bother to reply 'cause I'll just ignore you. I'm not sure where you copy this from, but at any time I was clicking on the "Go to Deal" The expiry statement isn't in the item description… However, if it makes you feel better "you're right" mate.

              • +1

@Kapitoshka: Think you and I had the same problem and we were getting a cached page without the AUG expiry - some people were seeing it and some not, hence the confusion from both parties ;)

                • @urbancartel: Cheers mate. That would make sense. TBH I clicked a number of times on the single slab and 3 x slab deals to check. None of them had expiry.
If I get it with Aug expiry it's not a problem still will happily drink it with my mates, but I won't buy any more from the seller and warn other on OzB.

    • You sure? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/458345#comment-7307048

Some have been Aug, some Late Nov

      • YMMV but its in the ebay listing…

  • With that many exclusions, shouldn't it be mentioned in the title? Also I'm not able to replicate the price in the post.

  • +1

Not quite the same but Stella is still @ $38.40 Might increase very soon!

    • raised!

      • I'm still seeing $48 (-20% brings it down to $38.40) Noticed they increased Bulmers Cider too

        • interesting, I see $60

          • +1

@tidie: Yeah it's up now - all the $48 cases have been changed to $60 (with discount you get it for….wait for it…. $48) Sheesh!

    • +1

      Cheers for pointing out Stella!

I bought a slab a while ago, it's alright but prefer the original. Don't think I'd buy it again.

OP, is worth adding in the Pirate Life Mosaic 500ml 16 pack to your advert? Link below
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Pirate-Life-Mosaic-IPA-Beer-Caseā€¦

I made an offer for $110 which was auto accepted, then 20% off brought it to $88 for 16 cans (it may auto accept at less than $110 I didn't check)

    • +1

Offer of $101 auto accepted!!!! Total after code $80.80!!
