  • Roughly…occasionally you can find some brilliant old gems…

Except you can't usually take them for test drives or inspections before hand…

Not if you factor in the fact that new cars cost more. :-/

Ummm… what is the question again? Are you asking about normal Vehicle Auctions (eg: not online ones)?

Auctions are a clearance house. Highest bidder gets it (unless there is a reserve)

Carsales is an online advertising venue. People advertise, you go take a look and make an offer if you like it.

They are completely different sales processes. Auctions are FAR riskier, as there is no warranty, no ability to inspect or test drive. You basically are buying blind.

(there are exceptions, these are general comments only)

Dont be daft. Its a true bargain post

  • I bought my current car from an auction house, but not an auction. It was listed for auction, but I inspected, and did a test drive prior, and made an offer, which was below the lower limit of the suggested price range. After a lot of up-sell talk, they accepted my offer pre-auction, as they probably thought a guaranteed sale was better than risking not selling it at auction. The price was about 5-10% lower than what dealers were selling similar cars, but on par with private sale prices.

  • Is it possible to buy a 380 wagon 2008 model or younger for 8-9 grand? with about 100,000kms on it?
