  • Is this any better than the $15 one from Bunnings?
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/brilliant-smart-wifi-plug-and-us…

    • +1

It has 1 extra USB port and horizontal instead of vertical, it uses Tuya Smartlife App same as Brilliant's. Practically the same tbh.

Note neither plug allows you to control the USB port.

      • exactly - thanks bigboomboom for the input

      • Sorry noob question,
Regarding security/data issues, is it the app or the wifi chip inside the socket that a consumer should be concerned?

        • +1

Both. App side you can pretty much use any Tuya based app. I'm actually using Kogan Smarthome to connect this as I also got 2x Kogan ones with Energy Meter.

          • @Bigboomboom: Thanks bigboomboom.
What is energy meter by the way?

            • +1

@sol3x: Well it measures how much electricity used. It's handy but not exactly needed if all you need is remote control/scheduling the power on/off.

              • @Bigboomboom: Thanks bigboomboom. So the energy Meter in an app?

                • @sol3x: No, the App support Energy Meter reading and recording, but the plug needs to have this function.

  • Thanks. ordered

  • Awesome. Love how these are made from bronze shrapnel.

  • +1

This is not a promise, but lookout for the Amazon Prime Day which was just announced for the week of July 15.

  • I don't suppose the usb port supports quick charge 2.4amp?

  • Are these the flashable/Home Assistant compatible ones?

    • +1

I think they are ESP8266 / ESP12s based devices. So there is this: https://github.com/arendst/Sonoff-Tasmota/wiki

    • +1

The Bunnings brilliant one are 100%. I flashed them with Tasmota OTA then compiled them using esphome and they work perfectly with HA.

      • Excellent! Was there a particular guide you followed to do this?
