Cheers mate got one for my new build which will hopefully have the Ryzen 7 3600x soon!

    • Same, waiting on the new chips to be shipped out.

      • The wait is terrible mate! I have gotten back to doing my own PC build (and using a PC) after 2007. Great time to jump back in the game. But have all other parts sitting at home except CPU.

        • Lol, same. Got all the parts including a new mobo, which i should build and update the BIOS. But keep thinking I will do it all in one go when the CPU gets here.

          • @parallelparadox: Yup that makes sense.
Everyday I fight temptation to buy the ryzrn 7 2700x

            • @axlfan: Lol, that is me. I think the newly released Ryzen 3 will have some potential launch issues better to be safe and buy the Ryzen 2 2700. Not a bad plan though, the 2nd gen will be heavily discounted soon, the launch issues will iron out and you will get some potential ebay sales for the 3rd gen.

Sound reasonable on paper but then I dont think i will be able to resist the temptation, lol :)

picked up a kogan mechanical for less than $40, very impressed with it, make sure it's on your radar before pulling the trigger on this one

    • I just got this as well - the keys can be a bit squeaky sometimes, but for 39 bucks I'm more than impressed with it. Feels pretty solid in its construction too.

      • after pressing some keys on mine the springs still ting for about half a second, is that what you mean? almost like a piano string that's cut short

not sure if thats just a mechanical keyboard thing or a kogan thing

at any rate it is a small price to pay for the satisfaction in key pressing and accuracy, used my microsoft mediaboard yesterday and the mushiness felt so awful… ignorance was bliss :(

    • Really like my Kogan mechanical keyboard apart from 1 of the 3 led lights (WIN) lock stays on all night until I turn my pc back on, and sometimes all the keys lights turn on randomly during the night 😅 All good though ended up getting it for free anyways.

It's pleasant to type but let's go through some negatives. This keyboard is quite tall so for my old desk, when i type my fingers are high enough to hit the underside of my desk. Small gripe but may be significant depending on your set up. The way the keys are arranged, think of a professor facing an auditorium: each successive row is slightly elevated. It doesn't seem to affect typing but with some caveats, my left shift key feels like it's significantly higher than the ctrl key because of the tiered arrangement and the shape of the keys. Also for whatever reason the 7,4,1 numpad keys are slightly lower than the rest. Whether or not that was an ergonomic design decision, im not sure. One thing I've found is when it's dead silence, when you release a key you can hear a slight ring as you when you release a spring from tension. The lock indicetor LEDs are blinding as the sun and there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust it, in the software those lights are depicted with their own little lens flares so apparently that's intended.

      • i really didn't have much issue adjusting all, a few fumbles in the first hour or so but since then it's been perfect, first mechanical and i've just realised how much of an upgrade they are

think your issue with 7,4,1 is a quality control one, mine appear to be inline with their rows, as for the bright indicator yeah, just realised this after you pointed it out.. with my seating position they are actually completely blocked by the top row of the numpad.. i can see how annoyingly bright it is if i lean over and look, if it was within my eyesight i'd probably do something about it like a bit of tape or some paint

however the ring from the springs i agree with, not sure if it's a kogan thing or mechanical.. but i'd definitely prefer without.. but if thats the $40 compromise i'd take it any day tbh

It's membrane with rgb and the Razer brand, doesn't make it worth it.

Lovely! Thanks OP, picked up one for me and my mate… going to look like a twitch streamer with all the LIFX and Nanoleaf and now this haha!

Insane price! Bought one of these for ~$100 last year, not sure how this is so cheap but definitely would recommend for the price! No issues so far :)

Either pay $15 more and get the Logitech G413 or get a Kogan mechanical. This is just a rubbish RGB keyboard.

    • +1

      You meant $25 more ?

      • +1

Sorry $25 for the Logitech, same price (even less) for the Kogan.

  • Price matched @OW 4350

  • I just got delivered one from the Computer Alliance sale on ebay for $79.
    Take my ozbargain badge away!

  • yeah got the Kogan one. Feels very nice when typing.

  • +1

You are paying for the brand name. Id much prefer a mechanical keyboard at this price.

I guess it's still a bargain for anyone who specifically wanted this keyboard for some strange reason (brand loyalty? RGBness?)

  • Membrane, yuck

  • Hey guys,

I've had a CM storm quickfire tk with cherry mx blue switches for a while now and it's too loud/clicky for my liking.

Does anybody know if this would be better? or would the membrane feel like a massive downgrade? It's mostly just for gaming.

    Cheers!

    • +1

The reason I didn't buy a mechanical kb is because of the exact reason, too loud!
I switched to membrane. The keys are slightly harder to press. But it still feels good. I would pull the trigger on this kb. Already bought one for twice the price :D

    • +1

just get a silent mechanical, i believe they are the brown switches with kogan, just have a look, click is optional, just an audible signal that the key was pressed

  • Are these only good for gaming? I do like to do music at night, but even standard keyboards are expensive.

    • +2

It's a membrane keyboard. It's not good for anything.

  • For a cheap keyboard it's OK.
    My thoughts:
*Backlit brightness is OK but key symbols could be a bit bolder because after a while it'll be hard to read anything
*Keyboard presets like keys/LED only load after Synapse app does - annoying
*No palm rest support option - annoying
*Keys feel a bit crowded compared to my last keyboard (WASD keys, etc) and makes gaming a bit clumsy at the moment - annoying
*No dedicated multimedia keys - annoying but easy enough to reassign keys
*Definitely go for better quality if you can afford it

  • Shame I missed this. $98 now.
