$10 P/M on Vodafone Network

I recently purchased two 4G kids smartwatches on Aliexpress and been looking for some cheap sims to go with them. As these watches don't have band 28, the sims will unfortunately need to be on Vodafone network if I want good 4G coverage. I've looked everywhere online for unlimited talk/text + 1GB data @ $10 p/m, like some Optus and Telstra MVNOs have, but haven't had much luck. The only Vodafone MVNO I could find with this plan is kissmobile.com.au, which looks dodgy as. Even 500mb might be okay. Any suggestions?

Ended up getting Lebara sim @ $14.90 pm for 3GB on Vodafone network - https://www.lebara.com.au/mobile-plans/30-day-plans/

  • depending on what band the watch supports, you don't necessary need Vodafone.
Unless it only uses 4G band 5, you should be able to use others.
Do you want to share the supported band?

    • Supported bands are 850\900\1800\1900MHz

According to OzTowers, most (80%+) of Vodafone's 4G network supports 850mhz. Whereas Optus supports mostly (80%+) 700MHz and Telstra about 50/50 700/1800MHz. So I thought Vodafone would be best for 4G devices that don't support 700MHz?

  • " don't have band 28, the sims will unfortunately need to be on Vodafone"
They'll likley work adequately on any other network. What are the models of the watches?

    • I understand it will likely still work on other networks, but I want the best 4G coverage possible.

Model is DF40. Supported bands are 850\900\1800\1900MHz.

      • I'm sure someone will correct me, but of those I think only 850 (band 5), 900 (band 8) and 1800 (band 3) are in use in Australia. Best you'll get in terms of numbers is two out of three on either Vodafone or Telstra. How that'll translate into actual coverage in your location, who knows.

      • Telstra beats vodafone for coverage

  • I used kiss mobile for a low use plan for a few years without any issue. There website was terrible but it worked fine.

    • How do you even get a sim from them? I tried contacting them but they just said someone will be in touch with me and heard nothing since.

    Kogan mobile - $12.675/month ($152.10/yr) - 7GB/month (85GB/year)

    https://www.belong.com.au/mobile/plans/small-sim-plan

    Belong - $10/month for 1GB/month

    https://boost.com.au/plans/#Long-Expiry

    Boost Mobile - $12.50/month ($150/yr) - 6.66GB/month (80GB/year)

    • Thanks for the suggestion. While I don't really want to outlay $300 for something they will probably break within a few months, I might end up going with Kogans $16 p/m 30 day plan.

As Boost and Belong are on Telstra network, I'm not sure if the 4G coverage will be as good?

      • Try a few 30-day sims to find out? Give 1 kid a Kogan, the other a Belong?

        • +1

Yeah that would be another option. Though I'd be the one who ends up walking around with two kids watches checking reception lol
