Wish I hadn't been bingeing 30 rock over the past week.

    • +9

      No you don't.

If you haven't used Prime Video yet, it's a fairly decent service. It's nowhere near as comprehensive as Netflix, but it holds its own.

Farscape is a recent addition if you want to re-watch some US-Aussie scifi nostalgia. I'm just starting S3 now.

Other nostalgia trips: The Office, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, and Seinfeld.

Some of the Prime original shows are pretty good too: Hanna, American Gods, The Expanse, Sneaky Pete, and The Grand Tour.

Other decent acquisitions on the service include Justified, Hannibal, and This is US.

Is this as good as Netflix? No.

Is this a nice free inclusion with the Amazon Prime service you're already paying for? Absolutely.

The Tick and Good Omens not bad either

I can't believe no one has mentioned it yet but… The Man in the High Castle.

        • -1 :(

      • +3

Yep, The Man in the High Castle rocked my socks, also Jack Ryan is a great watch. Both are Amazon exclusive, both are in 4K and both incorporate Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. A real treat if you have the TV and sound for the experience but I recommend to anyone.

        • Jack Ryan was surprisingly good. I also enjoyed Hanna.

    • +3

We liked Jack Ryan as well. Thanks for the other suggestions

      • +1

Yeah me too, but it took me a few episodes to not see the lead as Jim Halpert from The Office (to the actor's credit he does play the roles totally differently).

    • +1

The man in the high castle is a must watch to

      • I agree but then it deviates from the book and gets weird.

        • It does turn into a bit of a sci-fi show…but still intriguing

    • +6

Netflix is trash these days too…

      • +4

        Agreed

We got rid of netflix ages ago couldn't find anything worth watching

        • +6

I watched Stranger Things Season 3, Jessica Jones Season 3 and Godless this past week. These are 3 of the best shows I've watched on TV in a longtime.

Also The Umbrella Academy a month or so ago, what a show that was.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Also the show with Robin (from Batman) as the main character.

            TITANS

      • As in, Australian catalogue?

    • +10

Also add to the list Fleabag, Absentia and the Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

    • +8

      Bosch!

      • +2

        Yes, Bosch is the best!

    • +1

No love for Psych in the house…? It’s like Scrubs meets The Mentalist.

    • -2

The content on Prime Video is pretty good. But their player is awful, and the video quality seems noticeably lower than Netflix & Stan.

And most importantly, they still don't have an Android TV app! Chromecasting a PrimeVideo tab to the TV just doesn't work that well.

I pay for Prime, but ended up pirating Good Omens because the viewing experience was easier.

      • I've had the Prime app installed on my nVidia Shield since last year.

Can't rightly remember, but I might have sideloaded it like the SBS On Demand app… it's pretty slow to start and never quite remembers where I left off, but definitely less hassle than casting.

        • +2

Thats strange. I have the prime video app on my Sony Android TV.

          • +1

@techno2000: Same here, it's been on there for a couple of years.

          • +1

@techno2000: Same here, and can stream 4K HDR, and video quality looks very clear…

      • App in now available on TTV - works well too

      • They do have an Android TV app.

    • Parks and Recreation and The Office

    • +1

      Red Oaks 👍🏽

      Patriot is very good

      • I second this. Very underrated show.

        • If you like Patriot, then you'll love Perpetual Grace, LTD (although it's not on Prime).

          • @AdrianW: Yes saw it on Stan. Will check it out, thank you!

    • 4 blocks is good (German gangs vs police), and Amazon prime is the only place you can get decent subtitles for it.

    • It just got Chromecast support back after ending theire feud with Google, so its actually useful again. I stopped watching Prime Video in protest with no Chromecast support.

  • +2

Got the credit email within a few minutes of playing something.

For those with Getflix, you'll need to turn off Amazon Prime, as it is set to the US as default.

    • +1

I just watched a 40min episode and don't have anything yet.

      • Same, spose I'll check in the morning. Don't remember ever using prime video before, so hopefully it will come through

      • +1

Only watched a couple minutes of a Mr. Bean episode. I'm on the 2nd month of a Prime trial.

        Email:

        Hello Neil,

Thank you for watching Prime Video.

As part of a special promotion for Prime Day, we're sending you a $10 Amazon credit for streaming with Prime Video for the first time. Although you will not see the credit in your account, the $10 will be automatically applied to your next purchase of $20 or more on eligible items at Amazon.com.au.

Credit must be used within 7 days.

      • It came through 20mins after I posted this

    • +1

Does Getflix get you the US catalogue?

      • You can pick from US, UK, Germany, Japan, Canada, France, Italy, India, Spain.

    • Got mine in 45 seconds (or less) :D

  • -4

Can I cancel my Prime and start Prime with my another amazon account?

  • Hmm, so literally only last week I logged into Prime Video to see what was available but didn't play anything, so I guess I should still be OK?

    • I've done the same and the credit came through without issue.

    • Same, but I actually started watching something didn't finish it. I played a short kids video for my daughtet until the end today and got the credit email.

  • Thanks OP. Trying to log into primevideo on the app but its saying I need my email (or phone for mobile accounts) to log in. I can't seem to log in with my email which is my Amazon email and password, and I didn't register a phone number. Does anyone know how to work around this

Solved: got into chat and they had to change my account country region to Australia

  • Will this work with a 30 day Prime free trial?

    • +4

Yes, a Prime trial is fine. It's written in the post above.

This bit… "Be a Prime member or in a Prime free trial."

  • Thanks OP just received the $10 credit

  • How can I watch prime video ok xiaomi mi box?

  • +4

How do people have a Prime Account they haven't watched a video on yet?

    • +8

People with Amazon Prime for the store and didn't realise that Prime TV was pretty good or even a thing?

      • I bet lots are missing on Twitch too…

        • +1

I've got twitch for the freebies but it's not for me. Wrong gen I assume.

        • I'd rather play games than watch other people play them.

    • Moi. Have Prime for shipping, but have little interest in Amazon originals, though I've heard good things about Fleabag and Mrs Maisel.

  • Ah wells can't get the credit already used it to play some stream

  • +1

if we sign up for prime now, would we be eligible?

  • +3

If anyone wants some good AmazonPrime Original Series to watch I recommend Jack Ryan, The Man in the High Castle and Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

  • Can we use the voucher to buy prime subscription?

  • +10

Given the credit expires within 7 days, might be best to wait until later in the week so you can utilise the credit with the Amazon Prime Day offers.

    • Just realised this immediately after getting the credit. Prime Day starts on the 15th, right? Hoping I can sneak in a purchase that morning.

    • Great pickup, thanks!

    • Yep, made that mistake…

  • Venom and that new Mission Impossible movie are on there. That's pretty cool.

    • +2

      Venom was terrible IMO

      • +2

It was the fun kind of terrible though

    • Mission Impossible Fallout is probably my favourite action movie of the last five years.

  • how do you all cast on a telly?

    do you need Amazon fire,

I heard casting from computer chrome is slow
not chromecast support (although an article said its coming)

    casting the screen is black

  • +4

Nvm got it. Community is on there 🤙🤙🤙#advanceddungeonsanddragons

    • Such a good episode.

    • Community is incredible, can't recommend it enough!

  • Thanks OP. Got the credit within 5 mins. Didnt even need to watch the entire episode and was only 16 mins in.

Thank you for watching Prime Video.
As part of a special promotion for Prime Day, we're sending you a $10 Amazon credit for streaming with Prime Video for the first time. Although you will not see the >credit in your account, the $10 will be automatically applied to your next purchase of $20 or more on eligible items at Amazon.com.au.

Credit must be used within 7 days.

  • No credit, but some great suggestions on what to watch next. So thanks :D

    • Man in the high castle

  • -1

Love it. With so many shows and services, is it only a matter of time before shows start paying you to watch them?

  • +2

Watched half an episode of 30 Rock and received the credit pretty quickly.

Also I forgot how funny 30 Rock is.

  • +1

They have a decent range of kids shows, including their own kids shows. Tumble Leaf is a great show for kids.

They also have a range of Australian classcs like Blinky Bill, Dot and the Kangaroo, Walkabout, Blue Heelers..

  • 3 minutes into SpongeBob and I got the email with the credit. Was just going to leave it on in the background tab to get the credit and chose a short show.

    • Watched an entire episode of spongebob (running in the background on my phone) but still no email.

  • +1

Do I need to finish the whole episod?

    • +2

Lol watched like a minute of something, still got it the next morning

    • +1

Just chiming in here for anyone searching for the answer to this… I watched Hannah (tv series) for like 15-20 minutes and didn't get anything. Couldn't finish so I thought I'd wait and see if I got the email - but nothing.

Couple of days pass still nothing (it's supposed to come within 24 hours) so I thought maybe it was already there but I wasn't informed.

Anyway tonight I found the email again, followed the link and watched like 1 minute of a prime original show and lo and behold an email came in saying the $10 credit was applied.

So yeah TLDR: Keep watching until you get the Amazon email saying the credit was applied. I never finished 2x episodes btw.

Edit: once you have the credit you should see it applied when you get to the "Choose a payment method" stage of the purchase. If you don't see it then your item isn't eligible - it needs to be sold by Amazon AU.

  • Hit play and went for a walk. Didn't watch a second. Hopefully Alexa won't dob me in

    • +1

      Alexa will remember this

      • If you keep it hush she won't know.

  • -2

Damnit! Signed up for Prime last weekend and watched a few movies already…before 8th July, that is.
Are people going to abuse this by creating new accounts and signing up for Free Prime trial? Hope not.

  • Already used offer.

    Good deal. +Vote from me
