Oh this brings back memories. My dad used to take me there as a kid and I would be looking at Dino movies all day

    • +4

walking up and down the isles of Video Ezy , while the music of a claw machine game played on repeat forever in the background

faded copies of Masters of the Universe, the plastic covering peeling back and slightly frosted over

      the faint smell of popcorn

borrowing 3 SNES games for the school holidays so you had something to do while the parents were at work..

      good times

      • And swinging on the orange painted poles outside hehe

  • $10 - You are a LEGEND!

  • How do these Kiosks work? Do you need to signup online before you rock up?

    • +3

No, just choose what you want, enter the code and then just give them your credit card details in case you run to Mexico with Captain Marvel on DVD

    • +3

You just rock-up to the kiosk, touch the 'rent' button, and choose a movie or movies of your liking. Once you've got a movie in your 'cart', enter the promo code, to apply it, to get your discount. Then you 'checkout'. You'll need to enter a valid email address and phone number, and then swipe or tap your credit card…

      Pretty easy overall.

So all done from the touch screen kiosk…

      • I think you should be giving a free rental for honour.

I can't imagine doing all that, and then still having to return the disc!

        How do you do it?

      How do these Kiosks work?

      They are electric.

      • +1

And when they 'break down', the service staff remote into them (they are a Windows-based box). In some instances, you will see them remotely controlling them…

If "yours" is broken, call the service number on the spot, as they can often fix 'em, right then and there, without having to come back.

Sometimes I've found them powered down (unplugged), after someone wanted to jack the GPO for charging their depleted phone…

PS Future rentals don't require you to enter your email address or phone number. This works because you swipe / tap your credit card at the checkout process. If the system identifies your card as a previous renter, you don't need to re-enter your email/phone details.

But for the first rental, you need to enter these details at this point.

(You can update them later (you get prompted) if they change).

      OMG!

This is a game changer !!!

Yep, it's pretty sweet. They've actually thought about the user experience, and thought "what's the minimum the customer actually needs to do?"
        - pick a movie (kiosk starts to pre-fetch DVD / Blu-ray caddy)
        - enter coupon code if applicable
        - swipe card
        - dispense pre-fetched disc
        - done!

No username or password like at say a Big W photo kiosk…

It’s very convenient. Hopefully one day they’ll have 4K rentals too.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: LOL I'm still waiting for them to have more than one new blu-ray per month

            • +1

              @ItsMeAgro: Good point

  • How much is a new release rental?

    • It's $4 at my place. SOme other places are $3 and $5 each

  • +3

Has anyone seen 4K movies in these yet?

    • +2

Can hardly find even a Bluray worth watching. Most are old stuff and there are only like a dozen or so available. New releases are mostly DVDs as are most of others.

      • +1

Yeah I tried to support physical rentals as long as possible but the blu ray selection is awful. The latest blu my local kiosk has is that Jurassic World sequel.

  • +2

Remember its $2 day, so you can get 4 movies… 4 is the max at any one time.

If you are really keen, use a second card and double up for a massive movie marathon…

    • Oh really? I had no idea! Thanks for the info!

    • Or realise that you have responsibilities and work the next day and just rent 1 instead like a modest person.

  • Should make them 3 day hires or something at least for non new releases. That way they'll probably get more paying customers. But then again don't really know any one who actually watches DVDs anymore. I mean seriously c'mon now this is 2019 and Blurays have been around for well over a decade.

  • +1

Prefer Blu Ray discs over streaming services, but finding it hard to get these discs in Kiosks these days. Most of the times they have DVDs or blu ray is rented. Happy to pay $2-$4 to keep VideoEzy in business.

  • Might try this out for the first time today, thanks OP.

  • Shazam

    • LOL you won't find a blu-ray of Shazam at a Video Ezy kiosk yet.

      • Strange that, considering it was one of the 4 disks I just got out of my local.

Admittedly they haven't been good at the blu-rays recently, but I snagged this and Alita in blu-ray.

  • Is there a way to check whether a certain movies is available on blu ray at a specific kiosk?
Unless my memory is playing tricks on me, I thought I was able to check online before, but can't seem to be able to now. I won't bother if I can't rent blu ray.

    • EDIT: I'm not sure if you can check if it's BLU-RAY or not. But you can visit http://www.videoezy.com.au/browse-movies/ to see if an item, is in stock. The title might say whether it's BLU-RAY or not, if you're lucky… Otherwise you just have to pot-luck it, and turn up and check a kiosk…

This feature no longer gets populated:

    • What resolution is BR?

      • +1

Ooh looks like some kiosks will actually get a 4K blu-ray soon!

On the downside, it's the new Hellboy remake.

  • thanks i wanted to see the Favorite

  • When do you gotta return them?

    • +2

By 9pm the next day (or earlier if inside a shopping centre that closes earlier). Many are located outdoors, so you can return anytime to suit you (e.g. on the way past in the morning).

  • The 2 places near me were both charging $4 today, and it's usually just $2 on Tuesdays.
Am I the only one? Or was the free $10 to celebrate that they have stopped cheap Tuesdays!

    • $2 for me (WA). Hit the 4 maximum limit though before I hit the $10 total :-)

  • +2

I'm done with the Video Ezy machines.
Always breaking down. 12 Blu-ray titles to choose from in total.
They had a $5 voucher earlier in the week and it only gave $2 off, I emailed them and they ignored me, posted on Facebook they ignored me, others complained too, they were ignored as well.
Like I said, done. This $10 voucher I did not use out of spite.
