Uniden Digital Wireless Baby Video Monitor - $99 + Postage (Online Only) from Dick Smith [Soldout]

20

Was looking for a baby monitor and came across this from Dick Smith. Looks to be a saving of $50 from the exact same product listed here:

Not bad IMO as a lot of baby monitors without video cost about this much. It's also expandable I believe. You can get one with an outdoor camera included for $199 (+postage) here:

Not sure about the quality but Uniden should be decent. Will have to wait and see.

  • From experience:
Infra-red video at night time is more miss than hit.
Mostly it revolves around the fact that the projected infra-red light has a very short range, so you need to sit the camera fairly close to the child. This means that the child will always want to play with it, and move it, disconnect it and maybe even suck on the power plug!!

Also it's worth looking for encrypted signal, this box says "secure" but doesn't expand on that at all. You don't want your video and conversations being eavesdropped on by tech savvy nosey neighbours.

Did it include a tinfoil hat?

    • I've found IR video is pretty good from a distance. You can at least see if the kid is standing up and screaming vs lying down and screaming, so you can make a better call on whether or not to go in.

  • When I was looking at these recently I was looking at the expanded one with an outdoor camera to keep an eye on our dogs as well as bub! LOL Didn't end up buying in the end, however, the best price I found was $197 + free shipping -

EDIT - It's showing as out of stock @ DSE!?

  • I wonder if this will work as a security camera? :D

I believe it actually is intended as a security camera but was rebranded as a baby monitor for that market. The package that includes the outdoor camera uses the exact same indoor camera system.

  • Yes it's showing Out of Stock on DSE.

    • Though the full price listing is still available - may have been a door buster type promotion (limited stock to drive clicks)

just give the baby a mobile phone.
kids are so tech savvy that they will just text you when they want a bottle.
I just gave my 6 month old my old nokia and she threw it in my face and babbled about it not being android.
when I was her age I had to use a landline with twisted copper wire. the phone had a dial and with such small fingers……

    • yeah but when you were her age, there was competition in the milk delivery market, you didn't even need a phone, just leave an empty bottle out with a note for daddy to deliver. Now with Coles killing the competition and forcing daddy to get a new job has resulted the babies have to deal directly with the monopolist supplier i.e. Mum. It's ridiculous that the ACCC refused to intervene in this situation.

  • this thing works on same frequencies as wifi and av senders.

  • Got mine today. I'm suitably impressed, nice piece of kit. I didn't know it was going to have USB and surveillance software etc. And batteries in both units. Nice.

As others mentioned its a rebadged security camera. It is even double boxed with the security cam box inside.

    • Got mine too…well worth it for the quality.
