Thanks, totally forgot about it. Will add to my other post.

  • Will get cheaper in next month or two right? With xm4 coming out

    • Why would they release the XM4 when they are already the top dog?

They only just released the WFXM3 earphones so I don't see why they would be in a rush to release the XM4. Somewhere around mid next year at the earliest would be my guess.

      • 3 in 3 years so far right? Basic things they can still improve on like multi device connections that most others have. Also working with game systems etc.

        • better comfort, lighter, longer battery life, add buttons (personally, I can't stand the sound of tapping or sliding my fingers for controls when it's pushed against my ears).

The newly released Bose 700s don't appear to be much better than the QC35 IIs overall so if they do release the XM4 this year they would only be eating into their own product/s. So don't see why they would want to rush into it.

          XM3
          WFXM3 this year
          XM4 mid next year

          That would be my guess.

          • @dins: Literally any other headset makes better quality calls. New Bose 700, jabra 85h, surface, all have ability to connect to two devices and have better call quality.

            • @onlinepred: Yeah it's not perfect hopefully Sony addresses those issues with the XM4s. Having said that tho the XM3s are still ahead of the pack overall imo. Don't see the Bose 700s beating them either.

              • @dins: I won't even consider the xm3 as terrible call history and can't connect to two devices. So 700 beats it easily for me and many others.

Why would they release the XM4 when they are already the top dog?

Because of the Bose 700 (QC35 II successor), maybe.

        • The 700s don't seem like much of a bump overall going by reviews. Most head to head reviews still have the XM3s as the better overall NC headphones.

@dins: Depends on what you use it for. If you use it to make phone calls occasionally, the mic isn't very good. It's the worst out of the top 3 (QC 35 II, PXC 550, XM3). I haven't experienced the 700 yet so I can't tell but the QC355 II is almost perfect already (comfort, NC, multi device connection, mic), only thing lacking is no USB C charging. I am a little skeptical of the new design of the 700 though. I look forward to testing it when it's available in AU soon.

            • @Travis J: Yeah fair enough. Sound quality, comfort, noise cancellation, durability and battery life those are the big 5 for mine.

    • Has it been confirmed?

Most likely. With the new Bose 700 released as well as competition from Amazon AU. Amazon had it at $289 a week ago. Expect it to come down close to $300 or a bit under in coming months.

      • That was because of the eBay plus deal wasn't it. Only lasted for around 15min max from memory.

        • Amazon Prime Day

          • @Travis J: Ah ok must have missed that one.

    • rtings retest the ANC and confirmed there's no noticeable difference. https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/sony/wh-1000xm3-wi…

update: 03/11/2019: Some users have been experiencing a reduction in noise canceling performance after the 4.1.1 update. We have re-tested our WH-1000XM3, but from our measurements, it doesn't seem like there is a noticeable difference in the noise canceling efficiency. You can check out the results for yourself here . However, we may have gotten lucky with our unit, since the consensus online seems pretty mixed on this issue. You can participate in the discussion thread below if you''re also experiencing this issue.

Hmmm, I've seen it cheaper on OzBargain before. Not sure if I should take my chances and wait

After using my pair of Sony WH-1000XM3 for nearly 22 hours straight just a couple of days ago I attest to how comfortable they are to wear and how good the noise cancellation is on them.

  • There was a video on YouTube of a guy that did a comprehensive recording test of how his voice sounded to others on a call, whilst wearing the Sony XM3. He compared this against the Bose QC35. The XM3 made a massive improvement on the XM2 microphone, so that you can be heard over background noise, but it leaves a lot to be desired in overall tonal quality of your voice. If you want these for music, which you most likely would, the Sony wins. But if calls are really important to you, then the Bose does it better. Full disclosure: I owned the Sony XM2 and currently have the XM3. Battery life of the XM3 is fine, but the XM2 was better. So, hopefully the XM4 improves on the above!
