[eBay Plus] Samsung 860 QVO 2.5" SATA SSD 4TB $611.15 ($531.15 after Cashback) Delivered @ Computer Alliance eBay

200
PASTA15

Per the title, it's a 4TB QVO SATA SSD.

And yes it's a QLC SSD but despite the hate, it's still perfectly suitable for most use cases. There are some who need the hardcore write speeds and buffer for video editing/etc and if so, this isn't for you. But if you are just looking for a plentiful SSD to store your Steam library, photos, movies, etc… then this is a great option.

Personally I feel that the prices of 4TB SSDs are a bit high and I'd rather wait for a bit more competition in this space but if you need 4TB of storage in a single 2.5" SSD drive, then this is a decent option.

  • Good price but I will hold back for another one month only because Samsung has extended cashback again till the end of August(instead of July)!

That’s true but PASTA15 will likely have expired by then… but eBay being eBay will probably have another similar promotion too.

I’m also holding out for now too since I just bought a 2TB 970 Evo Plus and need to wait for my money tree to regrow.

  • The 2TB versions are ~$262.65 ($227.65), went for one of those as my games drive.

  • Are there any other 2.5inch Hdd's or SSD's reccommended for storage that doesnt break the bank.

There aren't that many HDDs in the 2.5" size, but in the past I used to shuck the Seagate portable HDDs to get the 2.5" drive out for use in a PS4. Nowadays I guess if you are looking at the 0.5-1TB size, a cheap SSD might actually be a better/easier option for a relatively similar price point.

If you're looking at much larger sizes, there isn't a lot of choice in the 2.5" size. I think the largest I ever found was 4TB and it wasn't even that cheap.

      • Do you have a rough price for the 4TB?

IIRC 4TB was about $250ish back when I was looking at it, but as FuwaSheep mentioned, it may be too thick for some devices. I was thinking of getting a gaming laptop with a stock 1TB drive, and replacing it, but after realising it's potentially not going to fit and I'd need an SSD anyway, I stopped considering it.

And again as FuwaSheep mentioned, depending on what device you are planning to use it in, height matters. PS4 back then was very strict and limited my options for shucking.

FYI I think at the 1TB size, price difference going from an HDD to a basic SSD (is not too significant but at the 2TB point, it will be a lot more. 4TB will be significantly more (in this example, $250ish for a HDD up to $500+ for the SSD in this post) but obviously you get decent performance benefits.

          • @jace88: My gaming laptop is a msi gp63 leopard.

            • @Alaken: Cool - you'll need to work out which hard drive fits… depending on your manufacturer or the community, this could be either as easy as checking the manual or require significant research and/or experimentation.

      • At a quick glance, 3TB, 4TB, and 5TB 2.5" drives are available, but they're thicker (15mm) and don't work in all devices. Regular sizes (7-9.5mm) max out at 2TB. SSDs go up to 4TB at the same form factor, but are of course quite a bit more expensive.
