Various Double Edge Razor Blades $2-$3.80 for 10 Blades, DE Razor+10 Blades from $12.95, Free Postage @ Vshod.com

150

I found out through perusing some review sites that apparently the Russians make the best DE razor blades (who knew?). I went looking for Voskhod blades as these looked to be the best for my skin and found them at Amazon for a decent price, only to find they were subject to shipping unless I purchased $49 using a Prime membership. I then stumbled across vshod.com where I found them for $2.00 for 10 blades and included postage. It's a Brisbane-based seller who runs a PayPal-only store, so the site design is…interesting. I figured $2 wasn't much even if the seller didn't come through, but 3 days later they turned up as advertised. He actually has quite a range of different brands of blades so you could easily build yourself a sample pack to try them out, which is what I plan to do later.

He also stocks a wide range of DE razors, too, starting from only $12.95 for a plastic handle and many that are $20-$40 which look half-decent. Again, postage is included.

On the surface it looks more expensive than Amazon until you start factoring in the shipping cost, plus it's a genuine Aussie seller.

  • Do you have a link to the review sites vouching for Voskhod blades? Not doubting you, it has been a while since I did any research, but I remember Reddit recommending brands like Feather, Astra and Derby. I haven't heard of Voskhod.

    • This is the review that made me think these blades are good for me. This guy actually has a device that can measure sharpness, too, which shows a level of dedication and thoroughness. If you do a web search for 'double edge razor blade reviews' you will get plenty of other sites, too.

      • Thanks mate, they do sound pretty good. I just bought a new carton of Astra Superior Platinum (which I love) so I'm good for now but I might give these a go in the future.

  • I've never used that brand but they have a good price on Feather blades. I'm still sad I lost my Merkur HD 34C, that was my favorite.

    • Feather was another brand that I considered, but they seemed to be a lot more expensive than others. What are your thoughts on them? Do you feel they're actually superior?

      • Feather are super sharp and probably more suited to those with experience with DE razors as it is easy to cut yourself.
What I find is it does stay sharper for longer than other blades but cost-wise it was cheaper for me just to replace cheaper blades more frequently.

      • Definitely sharp, I first tried them in one of those DE blade sampler packs and IIRC they were the sharpest of the lot. Worth getting one of those packs for the experience.

      • I have sensitive skin and found the feather's really good. Worth the extra money for me over the dozen or so others I have tried.

I thought these were pop vinyls from the thumbnail.

In the pop vinyl post someone mentioned they look like razors, you two should meet or something.

      • you two should meet or something.

        I think they'd make a lovely couple.

  • Looks like a pretty shoddy website tbh. Not even HTTPS?

I like Shark Razor blades after trying heaps of 'sampler' packs. They're my favourite value/performance blades. Currently $17.90/per 100 on Amazon, slightly cheaper on eBay.

  • Yeah I wouldn't be putting my details into a site like that.

    • Actually, you don't. You add items to your cart, but as soon as you click the 'Checkout' button you're immediately directed to the PayPal merchant site which is fully secure. At no point are you asked to enter any personal data prior to that point.
