Lol you beat me by a matter of seconds!

Why people just don't use their old phones?

      Better camera
      Better software
      Better connectivity
      Better Wi-Fi
      Cellular connection
      GPS tracking
      Music player
      Video player
      It's free
      ….
      Even more

      • +11

Because they're more tempting to steal, for all those reason's you've put up there.

        • Hmm, thanks. A phone works better. I don't think anyone wants to steal a worthless old phone with Android 5 or 6.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: True. But they won't know that until they smash your window. And then you're left with a smashed window and an old phone. Of course, if you put the phone away every time you park, then yes, definitely having an old mobile is better. I'm all for recycling old tech.

      • +8

Old phones wont automatically start recording with ignition and do the loop recording when storage is full. Will keep the screen on which you dont want…

        • +1

          plus they overheat,
dash cams are designed purely for recording.
but for $49, it is a bloody great price!

          • -1

            @WhatWhoWhyUsername: Not true.
Remember a phone is a Computer with 1 or 2GB of RAM. It can run anything and everything related. These things almost have no capability to do anything. Under sunlight they both are vulnerable but you csn install it away from the direct sunlight or use a cover. Pretty sure there is one for every phone.

associated with JB Hi fi but asking which one is better?

          • +4

@prankster: Lol. We should appreciate his/her honesty!

          • @prankster: I think he is alright to ask as he did not post it and he needs suggestions.

The reviews on the JB website is pretty bad.

    • +1

They are pretty good for the 900

    • +17

They are mainly aimed at people complaining about the Lane Departure warning function. Here's a tip, watch the bloody road and not your phone and you won't need that rubbish.

      • +1

There sas one review saying the video quality was terrible. Could have just been from a high expectation however.

      • +2

we have all come here to enjoy a Tesla for the price of a Volkswagen

        • Tesla is better than VW?

          • @Ulysses31: Test drive one! Clear screen being online and yes it does have pickup! All German makers have gutted a Tesla and are holding the chin wondering how they did it. Plenty of youtube to enjoy.

and the store service is much worse!

      • Can you please elaborate a little bit more so others can also benefit?

      • Every store? They might not be the problem. Customer service, along with any social interaction, is a 2 way street.

        • +1

Their website just wastes one time, many stores do not come up so rang the store and they were quite abusive not wanting to buy something else that is much overpriced. Sounds like they were more than a bit desperate to make extra dollars. Compared to eg Bunnings or even Woolworths has really good inventory control and stuff that is trained to honor money spending clients!

  • +4

was going to post this earlier whole range from $29-$59, only issue reviews are pretty bad on all of them, but at that price worst case return it to jb down track if issues

    • Glad you mentioned it - going to pick up a KPT-860 tomorrow; thanks

  • Just check how you watch recorded video by swapping SD card or directly connecting mobile with wifi. New dashcam has inbuilt wifi to connect mobile for video download.

  • +2

Decided to give it a go. At $49 it's super cheap insurance. Sounds like most of the grievances with this are with the addition crash warning and lane guidance tech which my car already has so will switch them off.

  • +1

    No stock for 942

    • Not unless your in SA, hobart, or Wagga wagga

  • Which, if any, would be the pick of the bunch?

    • The 900

      • +4

        why?

        • Personal experience with it, and the reviews for the other two models are offputting. I know the 900 is a quality cam.

  • Which one will be the best to get?

  • +1

Twice my order had been cancelled after processed … wonder why

  • The page now has access denied , is it just me ?

    • fine here just ordered.

      • Thanks

        • Your Click & Collect order is ready for collection from JB Hi-Fi

          • @brando12: I checked in my email and it says cancelled , the forth times , I guess I’m not having any luck this time

  • +1

Was coming considering this till I read this review:
“My only complaint is that I can't set the time manually - it locks onto the GPS - and it only has whole hour time zones. Because I live in the NT I have had to set the time to GMT. South Australians would get this same problem.”

    Doh! 🤦‍♂️

  • Can you hardwire this to your fuse box, or does it only support the 12v cigarette lighter?

    • Never mind - they have a hardwire kit (which ironically cost the same as the dashcam itself).

      • do all of these need to be hardwired in?

        • Found this information on a third party website:

          What's In The Box:
          * 1 x KPT-920 Dash Camera
          * 1 x Suction Cup Bracket
          * 1 x Software CD
          * 1 x 12V Car Charger
          * 1 x Manual

So probably no. Works out of the box it seems.

  • +1

Terrible attachment to the windscreen. Ended up returning it last time it was on special.

  • +4

    Thanks Guys i just wasted $49 :(

  • I have the KPT-850 which is down to $150 ($250 normally). Cant review the other ones, and its a bit more expensive, but im pretty happy with my 850

  • -8

most idiotic website!! 2 out of 3 stores do not exist, gps location never works, rang store only dumbos employed got into endless loops!

    • +11

      Woah, settle down there Karen.

2 out of 3 stores don't exist? What does that mean?

    • Triggered.

  • anyone know what the night function is like?

  • +3

    Purchased. Requested cancellation after reviews.

What is the best bang for buck dashcam ultimately?

    • +3

      Looks like the Viofo A129.

      • +1

This is the one I had planned to replace my Viofo A119 with, but the 119 is doing OK so I can wait

    • +1

      BlueSkySea B1W

      Terrible names, but works well.

  • Is blueseasky b1w on ebay better to get?

  • +1

I have the 920 and never had a problem with it and love it, bought it when it was the newest KPT model, don't use lane departure warnings (If it has it? never even checked) as it seems pointless to me if you watch the road and don't drive tired.

  • This is probably better than nothing but I would recommend waiting for a deal on VIOFO cameras. This KPT-920 seems to have a bunch of useless features on it and you are better off buying something with better video quality.

  • +5

Just buy a A119 and be done with it.

  • Nothing is available near me.

    • Nothing near me either!

  • Thanks, purchased the KPT-900 from Perth CBD JB Hifi and got confirmation it's ready for C&C!

    • Hi mate - I can't decide.. What made you get the 900 rather than the 920 which has the WiFi transfer, which seems to be the only real difference ?
      Cheers

      • Literally someone in this thread saying to get the 900 (without reason). I have no idea and hoping I didn't get the dud one out of the three. Oh well

        • You did not get the dud. The 900 is a good camera and the fact it is the highest rated shows that. I know someone who has been using it for 2+ years now, no problems.

          • @nubzy: thanks! I'm sure either way it'll be fine and I did also notice this one reviewed better than the other models.

        • All good - I ended up with the 942 because it was the only one available within 200kms. Either way, $49 for a dash-cam from a store I can return to if any issues is a win for me.
          Cheers for the reply.

          • @Fitzy777: It would be appreciated if you can provide feedback about the 942.
Have you experienced any of the (several) issues (such as freezing) mentioned in the reviews?

            Thanks :)

P.S. I have both 942 and 920 on hold for pickup on Sunday.

            • @Navgsc: Yep, it keeps bugging out if I have it set to record after car is off - collision/motion etc.
So I have turned that off as well and will give it one more go this weekend - if still locking up it's going back.

If I had of paid RRP for it I would be very pissed off..

              • @Fitzy777: Cheers!
Ended up collecting the 942 to give it a chance. The JB salesman advised me that all the dashcam issues will be resolved using the right memory card and only and only use "Samsung Endurance 32 GB SDXC UHS-I 100MB/S CCTV SD Card". Waiting for the SD card to test the unit!

  • Thanks, got the 900 from port macq

  • I swear someone in melbourne just buys up all the super cheap deals from jbhifi and resells. i bet ill see this on gumtree or ebay soon for $150 or something

    • +2

Yeah, to pay for the petrol that they used to drive to all the stores to pick up the items…

    • I say good for him.

    • -1

I remember buying two trombones from a jbhifi online clearance, made a quick $700 profit reselling on gumtree. Bring back cheap trombones!

  • Thanks, Got the 942. Although in the website said none left in Sydney, there are one 942 and one 920 left in jb hifi Artarmon, I preferred 942 as it is original price is higher and the specification on paper is better. One man after me got the 920, none left in that shop.

    • It would be appreciated if you can provide feedback about Kapture KPT-942.
Have you experienced any of the (several) issues (such as freezing) mentioned in the reviews?

      Thanks :)

P.S. I have both 942 and 920 on hold for pickup on Sunday.
