Cheapest Office type PC

Where can I find the cheapest Office type PC that has 4GB of RAM and built in video card?

If no operating system makes it cheaper, then its better.

I am just looking for the absolute cheapest option for someone surfing the Internet and watching Kayo sports, Netflix, etc and typing stuff in Wordpad.

Will not be used for games at all.

PS: I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.

You're looking for a tablet then.

    • No, not a tablet or iPad or notepad.

I am after a desktop PC.

You keep saying you want a desktop but your usage case is better served by an iPad or tablet. Others agree.

The OP says they want a desktop. Why are you arguing with them?

Desktops are generally not good for paid streaming services, they get limited to below HD resolution due to being "insecure" platforms.

Got a reputable source for that allegation?

            @Switchblade88: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23742

            Resolution:

            Google Chrome

Up to 720p on Windows, Mac, and Linux

Up to 1080p on Chrome OS

            Internet Explorer up to 1080p

            Microsoft Edge up to 4K*

            Mozilla Firefox up to 720p

            Opera up to 720p

Safari up to 1080p on Mac OS X 10.10.3 or later

*Streaming in 4K requires an HDCP 2.2 compliant connection to a 4K capable display, Intel's 7th generation Core CPU, and the latest Windows updates. Check with the manufacturer of your system to verify specifications.

    • Oh HELL NO….

I've already tried two of these, and even for the light tasks I described, these weren't even up to THAT task.

      • Can definitely agree.

      • The m3 or m5 models are fine (but cost more than a decent recycled desktop pc), the atom models are rubbish. As you'd expect from anything built around an atom CPU.

  • where are you located? I should have a dell P4 you can have if your in Melbourne, not sure how it will go with streaming though.

ohh Sydney, never mind, more of a pain in the ass and $ to ship it up than its worth.

    • Yeah, I understand.
But thanks a lot for the generous offer none the less.
I certainly appreciate the gesture man.

  • NUC

Core 2 Duo desktop for around $5 - $10 from your local tip buyback shop. Sometimes you can also get them cheap on gumtree but I wouldn't pay much more than $30 for one.

    • Can vouch for the Corte2Duo, my Wife's Dell Inspiron 1725 is still going strong. Running Windows10 with an SSD and 4Gb RAM, it's quite usable.
Performance degrades pretty rapidly with any more than a few tabs, but it's fine for most home uses.

Electronics Recycling Centre - I scored a Dell Optiplex 390 (Core i3 2120, 250Gb HDD, 8Gb RAM, DVD-RW, No-OS) for $35 from Electronics Recycling Australia (in Adelaide) earlier this year.
It's now running Ubuntu Budgie as my HTPC, my previous Athlon x2 5500 machine started playing up and at this price, it was cheaper and easier to upgrade.

The refurb Optiplex 9010's are quite popular. $170 will get you one delivered.

    Try this search

  • Old laptop with Linux mint installed.

  • I got a NUC for $100 on gumtree. Bit slow for windows but Ubuntu works well.

  • Having PM disabled isn't helping you…

    • I don't have PM disabled though…..

      • Oh my apologies - i mustn't have been logged in and assumed the absence of a link meant it had been disabled…

        • No worries man.
It's just that I thought I was going mad for a second there….

Friend, it needs a bit of setup and will be restrictive but the new raspberry pi 4gb would work for your use case. $95 and insanely tiny. Or a cheap i3 nuc could work too.
