NBN with Static IP Address - Exetel Good enough ?

I'm planning to get the exetel NBN services just because they are cost effective and provides static ip address. TPG and others are providing static ip address only for the business account. with exetel it is 89.99 pm with no lock in contract and a static ip address. I'm not sure about their NBN speed and services ?

Is it good ? should i go with them ?

Thanks,
Himal

If I recall correctly Aussie Broadband also offers static IP as a $10 bolt-on to your plan. Superloop is an additional $5 to plan.

Alternative to Static IP is dynamic dns, there are both free and paid options out there.

    • Hows the internet speed with Superloop ?

      • Pretty good, almost as good as Aussie. I'm on FTTP 50/20 plan and can generally hit that speed on australian servers, if its international to US West it's around 20~30 depending on the time of day.

Right now I tested 31.99mbps to Washington DC.

  • Exetel posts their call wait times for customer support on their website. I suggest you check it out. It has been this bad for months now. Speeds are generally fine, I get 38Mb during peak hours (50Mb NBN plan), nothing special. International speeds seem to be a bit slow, especially for uploads.

    • Thanks, I checked superloop and it seems good. the only downside is they don't have phone line support. I might get rid of my landline.

    • Currently the wait time is 22 minutes (12 people in queue). I've seen much, much, much worse times with Exetel.

  • How important is your static IP to you? For what it’s worth, I’m with Aussie and my IP has only changed once in the last 2 1/2 years. I recall reading on Whirlpool that your IP won’t generally change unless Aussie do a reconfig of their network. If you can get by with only having to update things once in a blue moon, you might get away with not paying $10 a month extra for it to be truly static

    • I've a requirement of static ip address.

  • do you need a static ip? or just a (non nat) IP?

    why not just use DNS?

    • I've few resources over the internet which has ip based filtering applied for the access. With static ip, i can whitelist my ip there.

  • Don't want to create a new post (unless I have to)

But I got the email from AussieBB about being changed over to CGNAT, I have noticed I get a lot of packet drops while gaming, would this be because I've been changed away from a Static IP? Or would this just be general internet issue?

  • Just signed up to Tangerine with static IPv4 included as standard, no extra cost. I've called their tech support line a few times for the installation and activation, and the wait time is no more than 5 minutes each time I've called.

  • I signed up with Superloop NBN 50 plan. Getting around 47 all the time. No complaints so far.
