One of my kids loves this game. Plays with his mate in co-op and laughs like there's no tomorrow.

This isn't a freebie. It's not a DLC that you can purchase. This is just an additional few megabytes to get a new level which was most likely on the workshop anyway. You still have to buy the game to get it. In saying that I'll be playing it tonight regardless but this isn't a deal.

    • +3

It's on the Xbox Game Pass

      • +7

So the deal should be for the free game on Xbox Game Pass then, not a free level (that was always free) on a game you still have to purchase otherwise.

        • +3

I just came to say my son laughs at this game…..

(and it's free on Xbox Game Pass)

          /walks back slowly

          • @Danstar: Oh multiplayer is great. Watching 8 people try to complete an objective while everyone is simultaneously holding the other people back (quite literally) is hilarious.

          • @Danstar: They might charge for it later - similar to Borderlands 2 Lilith DLC mechanic - as it is an official level made by them rather than a workshop level.

            • @Lysander: So then it would be a freebie at that point, not now. As of now it's free regardless (and always was) on a paid game.

              • @Tacooo: Lilith was a valid deal from its inception of being free - logical as when it costs something the freebie cannot be posted anymore! Check history. And please stop complaining about free stuff. Find us some deals instead of tainting deals posted by others, please.

                • +4

@Lysander: By definition then I should be posting deals whenever PUBG release a new weapon update as it could cost in the future? Regardless of the fact you have to pay for PUBG.

I post deals when I find them. I don't trawl /r/gamedeals looking for the newest stuff.

                  • @Tacooo: You can post any type and kind of deals. It does not have to be gaming. But trying to taint so many deals without contributing much yourself just feels very destructive and "mean" (for lack of a better word).
By your logic, a new DLC that is released and costs money later should also not be posted as a deal. Neither should the free games for XB1 and PS4 game passes as it requires purchase of those.
Try to be nice and look at it this way: if people benefit from the post because they can get free stuff such as a free DLC or another free level, there really is no harm. If there is no post, a lot of people usually miss out as they are not aware.

Holy shit it's amazing how little people understand what a deal is. It's free, it always was and as far as we know, it will be for the foreseeable future. You still have to pay to access it though. That's not a freebie. Neg away illiterates.

      • -1

Gladly, thanks for your blessing in negging you.

      • +1

I, on the other hand, am amazed and shocked by how little tolerance and understanding people have. Why do you think YOUR definition of a deal is valid and/or the only valid one?
Maybe your definition is not the one a majority agrees with and finds acceptable?

  • Oh and your links are for Great Britain, not Aus stores

    • Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • Not for the switch version too?

  • +4

After reading the link not really a deal tbh

  • +1

How do you install this free level?

    • For Xbox, sign in using your Xbox Live account email and click Get Now and will install next time your online with you Xbox

    • +1

Steam downloads it automatically. Only a few megabytes.

    • I think you need the base game.

      • I have the base game. So it's just an update to the game?

        • It’s just an extra level for the base game. Base game has I dunno maybe 100 little levels in it. Maybe 50. It’s more of an update to a paid product than something you can actually play for free.

  • Nice find

  • Couldn't get it to come up as free on Steam but the other platforms worked (I don't have the base game)

    • -1

If you don't have the base game you can't get it.

  • +1

Title needs to be corrected , it's a free add-on if you have the game!!!

    • +2

It says that the Human Fall Flat "Steam" level is free - is that not clear enough provided the whole title is read.
I agree if one only read the first part it might be confusing but…
Plus, if it is a level for a game it is kind of implied you need to have the game, isn't it?

Edit: Changed it - although I am sure now someone else will not agree with it.

      • +1

To be fair a bit of clarification may have been needed since it was confusing to some (can't always make it 100% clear to everyone of course).

I don't have the base game for Xbox One or PS4 (at least, I don't think I do), yet I could redeem this free level, but I could not do so on Steam (I haven't tried Switch yet).

        • For context: Sometimes I redeem free DLC when I can even if I don't have the game in case I get it in the future, extra freebies can't hurt!

          • @shinydragon: True but I have never been able to do this on Steam, only for consoles.
Have you ever been able to do this on Steam?

  • +1

Not a freebie, still requires purchase. Also not a deal as it's just a game update at least that's how it's presented on Steam. I guess it's a deal for Xbox and PS4 because it can be purchased.

    • +1

Games for Gold, PS Network games etc. also require a purchase, namely for the subscription. Yet when the games come out every months people recognise them as deals, namely for the people who have those subscription.
For me it is not a deal as I do not have one but why I should I tell other people it is not one for them. Just because something only applies to a group of people and not everybody does not make it a "non-deal" as then things like GOG Connect would also not be a deal (as it requires you to won the games on Steam first before they give you a DRM-free copy).

      • Agreed, but I appreciate when the labelling is clear "needs subscription" or "needs base game"

        • +1

OK. But that is fixed and clear now I hope.

      • I'm not completely sure about whether Steam should be included. If it's a level that is automatically added to the base game in your library then it's not a deal. If it requires user imput to obtain the free level then it's a deal. We can leave that as it's semantics.

I still take objection to labeling this as a freebie.

Item or service is completely FREE to obtain, with zero shipping cost and no strings attached.

That's from the submit bargain page. This deal has a "string" attached ie you have to own the base game which is not free.

        • If you go by this then the PS4/Xbox subscription monthly games should not be included as you need to have a subscription.
Humble Monthly should not be included.
GOG connect deals should not be included as you must own the game on Steam to get the DRM-free version.

Do you think it would be beneficial to a lot of people if these deals would be left out?
I reckon many people would miss them as they are not aware and would not be too happy about that, don't you think?

          • @Lysander: They're deals and should still be posted. They shouldn't be tagged as freebies.

            • @sween64: I have done that before and it was not well received.
Technically, no freebie is completely free to obtain: time, electricity, internet quote, revealing private information and data - these are all de facto costs.
Even Humble Bundle freebies like the current one would NOT qualify as it has string attached, namely the requirement to have a Humble Bundle account.
Only if you could get it without such account it would a freebie true to the definition.
Maybe the definition is too narrow and unrealistic - as someone working in a field where I work a lot with definitions this is not unheard of, if you get my gist. ;-)

              • @Lysander: I think the mods then need to help us decide what a true freebie is and isn't. As this deal requires another purchase that costs real money, it's definitely not a freebie imo.

                • @sween64: Oh, please no mods. Way too arbitrary with a lot of things - definitely not a fan.
I think the real test should be whether it is free and beneficial, at least for a group of people. That would include all the above mentioned freebies and would be beneficial to the community.
Plus, I think this should all not be taken too seriously. We are all adults and can decide for ourselves. Plus there are many, many different things in life which are more important and require our energy and attention.
Freebies on Ozbargain and Ozbargain itself should really rank very very low on such a list, in my opinion (I probably get negged for speaking such sacrilege).

                  • @Lysander: Keep it simple, if it requires the purchase of something else it's not a freebie.

That's exactly why free bacon isn't a freebie.

                    • @sween64: Slightly different than GOG Connect for example. Many people have Steam games. To get a DRM-free copy of a game, they do not need to buy anything anymore. Just claim. So for them it is a freebie, is it not?

  • -1

steam is showing up as $21.50, not free.

    • It is ""not** the base game that is free, just a new level for the game.

  • +3

As far as Steam goes, this seems to just be a free update? Should we post everytime Windows has a new update available for us? Sorry but this isn't a deal.

    • -1

Would you be happy if I take Steam out?

Your analogy with Windows does not work though as Windows updates actually make everything worse - and Windows itself is definitely no deal.
Plus, we have no choice. Here, I can choose to download or not.

If you reported, we have been through this before all day. If I can make you personally happy by taking it out I will - of course if anybody else complains why Steam is not mentioned I will direct them to you.

      • +1

In my opinion, you should remove PC from the deal title but you can leave the mentioning of Steam in the description. The deal link should point to one of the other store pages as the Steam one isn't a "deal".

Personally, I wouldn't even post this deal in the first place since free addons/DLC which are always free loosely fall into the "free software shouldn't be posted" category as per the deal guidelines. I know the moderators of the site don't seem to agree as I've seen in the past so I guess this is more just my opinion.

(I didn't give the post I'm replying to a negative vote by the way.)

        • Thanks for the clarification.

The definition of deal is different for everyone, and therefore it is impossible to please everyone.

Note: Tried to do what you suggested but won't let me.
But I will add Nintendo to stores.
