Brand New Huawei Mate 20 Pro Have Bad Battery Life. Is It under Warranty?

I bought Mate 20 pro from JB hifi a week ago, I notice that the battery life is crazy bad especially when I read other people experience in many forums with Mate 20 pro. I unplug the charger before I sleep, then 9 hours later the battery already down to 38%. That's very bad even my 2.5 years galaxy S8 do better than this phone. During the day, my Mate 20 pro never able to get 5 hours SOT. Basically, I still need to charge this phone 2x everyday.

I have checked:

  • No software is draining the battery based on the battery stat from settings
  • location, NFC, and bluetooth are turned off
  • I have my mobile data on at all time, however I checked the signal that I got 4 bar constantly

This is so upsetting as battery is my primary concern when choosing a phone, and I picked Mate 20 pro because of the good battery life based on many reviews.

I wanted to get refund or replacement, but not sure how I can convince that the battery drain on my device is not normal. And I'm afraid that the employee will just argue that its software(Android) issue that they can't do anything about it.

I have taken some screenshot to show them the battery life. https://imgur.com/vTU7Ucd https://imgur.com/a/0gAZXrv

So my questions:
is this under warranty for a phone that is one week old? Have anyone succeed to get refund or replacement from JB with similar case?

The usual approach is to take it back to the retailer and ask for a refund or a replacement because of X problem. Drop the ACL and the ACCC the same sentence if they don’t comply.

Your phone is awake for that time. Some app is causing your phone to do this. Try deleting one app each night and see which causes it.

But tbh, huawei is usually pretty aggressive with background processes (they kill it).

ur hot spotting two devices the whole time? that drains the battery A LOT.
also why u unplugging the phone at night?

    • Ok, will try to turn off hotspot tonight. However, even during the day when I don't use hotspot in my office, my battery is not great either. My battery was down to 40% when I finish work, and I don't use my phone that much during office hours.

      • My battery was down to 40% when I finish work

        That's completely normal and reasonable.

Yep hot spotting looks like the culprit. You're effectively using your phone as a router.

So simple, just ring up JB to find out !

  • Have you updated the software/firmware?

  • I have my mobile data on at all time, however I checked the signal that I got 4 bar constantly

Is this just having 4G on, or 4G data and hot-spotting? If you're hot-spotting, yeah that'll use up your battery.

Edit: Yeah your screenshot shows you have your hotspot turned on. Turn it off and check battery life then. Phones are not intended to be 24/7 mobile data routers.
