That look like a standard price for an 8port Gigabit switch isnt it, not really a bargain.

Reckon MSY can do better with some china brands such as TP-LINK.

      MSY EDIMAX $47, ASUS $58

    • Your neg seems a bit harsh… This does seem cheap for this particular model (according to staticice, shopbot, etc) - but I do agree, for a general 8 port gigabit, it is certainly nothing special!

Yes, and your local Great Wall Motors dealer can offer you something cheaper than a Toyota Hilux.

      GS-series Netgear vs TP-Link/Asus/Yumcha Mfg Co Ltd* = apples/oranges

      • Well actually no. It's like comparing a desktop gigabit switch to a desktop gigabit switch…

We're not talking enterprise grade equipment here.

If you seriously need VLAN, QoS or any of the other features listed on an EIGHT PORT SWITCH, then go crazy - buy this one. Otherise, save yourself $40 and pick up one of the 'dumb' ones listed above.

How can you compare the Netgear Prosafe to TP-LINK? These come with Life-time warranty and designed for 24-hour operation in a business environment. TP-LINK are an entry level brand.

Also, price is very good ~$25.00 less than the next competitor @ $108.00:

Its not a managed switch and this is mostly an online store unless you live near them.

If you needed a business grade switch for something, why would you get this?

I'm assuming they don't have next business day replacement, the actual store probably doesn't even hold stock of them.

Also I have a Netgear Prosafe WG302, they only put 5 year wireless certificates in them, and a month ago it expired. Netgear are not offering a new wireless certificate for this device, so it really shows their great support….

        • VLAN support for traffic separation
Quality of Service (QoS) prioritizes traffic
          Network monitoring and bandwidth control

I think it (the Netgear) is a managed switch, based on the description. If you wanted VLANs for a lab, or wanted to track bandwidth use, you might go with one of these.

  • Meh, I bought a TP-Link 8 port desktop Gb switch for around $80 18 months ago, and it's down to about $50 now.

  • that looks like its metal cased

a bit better than the plastic cased cheapo yum chas but its irrelevant if you don't kick it around

    • +4

Better get the metal case, kicking switches is very common…

      ;)

    • I suspect the RJ-45 connectors would do worse out of a kick than the case itself.

  • Same model $88 at City Software. You can get a D-Link equivalent for less at MSY & Gamedude, D-Link being a similar level quality brand & warranty.

    Meh.

    • City Software is eStore.

      • Which means it's on a $3 discount, since staticice was behind the eight ball on updating… so… Meh.

      • oh.. wait.. as tightarse pointed out..

        City Software IS eStore.. Lol..
