No such thing as a HDMI "2.0" cable.

    • +1

      yes there is.

      for example.
HDMI 1.4 can do 4k up to 30hz, however hdmi version 2.0 can do 4k up to 60hz.

      https://www.electronics-notes.com/articles/audio-video/hdmi/…

      Do some reading.

The plug itself is the same HDMI yes, but the version is different. Each one supports different resolution standards corresponding to the time period of release.

      • -1

The spec refers to signals being sent on the wire, not the wiring itself. A $2 cable from Officeworks has exactly the same capabilities.

        • $3.98 for 1.5m

          But yes, same same

          • -1

@spackbace: Some refer to it as "high speed" whilst others say "2.0".

I much prefer the version of the cable being clearly stated, so i know exactly what it can support.

          • @spackbace: The ones I remember buying were Comsol branded, and I may have got a cheaper price point for buying 20+.

        • -1

Have you tested this? go ahead and try to run 4k 60hz content on that cable and get back to me.

JB and such sell similar cables advertised by OP at way higher prices. 10bucks for this cable is perfectly fine, dont know why you are negging it and being an ass about it.

          • +1

@Ahbal: I have. No issue whatsoever.

            • -1

@ssquid: Yep checked the link above and its a "high speed" one, which is essentially hdmi 2.0 without saying it, IIRC. It still lines up with the info provided in my link above.

In the end, i still prefer knowing which version the cable is. I dont like terms like "high speed" as those are too subjective.

              • -1

@Ahbal: That is marketing BS. The cable spec has not changed since inception; any cable that fails on higher frequencies is simply faulty.

                • -1

@ssquid: Sorry but that makes no sense. How can a cable from 15 years ago support new features such as HDR, ARC, 4k at 60hz+?? These features were not around at the time, they had to update it. Again, read the link I sent. What I am talking about isnt "marketing".

The "gold plated premium" stuff is sure, but im talking about the standards and features each version supports….

              • @Ahbal: I bet your cheap cables can't transfer 18gb/s. You are a negative flog

                • +1

@Bluey91: Thats literally what ive been saying this whole thread bud.

        • +4

I have multiple $5 cables that cannot keep up with 60hz 4k on my Apple TV, the video and sound would stutter frequently. Getting a good $20 cable ended up fixing the issue. The $5 cables are still perfectly fine for connecting my laptop to a 1440p monitor, or my speakers to my TV.

You're correct, but it's worth nothing there are some caveats. YMMV, but I've found many of the cheaper HDMI cables I've bought over the years simply don't work for 4K HDR. More info here:

Refer to my above comment, theyre wrong. There absolutely are different versions of HDMI that support different resolutions at varying Hz. With support for other features as well. Yes, a lot of it is absolutely marketing, however I am talking about 1.4 being 4k @ 30 whilst 2.0 does 4k at 60. Thats all.

For $9…Im willing to say OP aint trying to rip anyone off. Compared to the same cables being sold for 30, 50, 100 bucks etc at jb and harvey.

      • They have to be really cheap and poorly made to crap out at high frequencies, mostly due to not having proper twisted pairs.

        • Yes, and that would be your regular 1.4 or older HDMI cable.

  • Shame my $200 HDMI 1.4 'monster' cable from 10+ years ago doesn't do 4k 60hz playback, from a Nvidea Shield tv to Sony x90f.
Had to fork out $20 for a new, compatible super duper fast HDMI cable.

  • Any deals on longer cables. Do you make a 5m?
